My partner and I love sitting at the back, its a simple treat that cheers us both up. The second smaller screen is very intimate and is enjoyable when it is quite empty but I find it quite annoying if it is full up and there are people chatting or messing around. This is my one complaint about this cinema, I have seen quite a bit of silly behaviour from groups of teenagers and I know that this can be difficult for staff to deal with. I do much prefer this cinema to the big cineworld in Ashford for atmosphere and price, the only reason we would go to ashford is if the film we wnted to see wasn't on in Folkestone.

The seats in the larger theatre are a little small and uncomfortable but the ones in the right hand theatre have been replaced. What I love about this place is they still have a reasonable policy on charging for popcorn and sweets its only a little more than the shops, whereas at the larger multiplexes you end up paying more for a drink and pop corn than you did for the theatre tickets. This place is never a busy as a multiplex and its great for when you want to go to a new release film but cant be doing with the crowds at the multiplexes. Friendly staff, although it is upstairs so not good if you are disabled or need help.

Although, standing at the Ickes office for 5 minutes waiting for someone to turn up and take too much money from us isn't.. No one even shouted to say where to buy tickets, instead we had to shout over to the guy selling popcorn, to which he replied..over here... It isn't glam or grand, based in a lecture theatre at the university, but you tend to be able to see great, serious film from foreign cinema, or some lesser known directors closer to home. The charm of the place, though, is its spirit. The Royal is one of those cinemas that we see in TV dramas from the 60s and 70s, with a proper stage, tiered seating and paintings on the walls. I've taken several people to The Royal, and all of them have since been back. It's worth a look, just for the experience, and the cheaper prices.

A standard ticket is very expensive at around £12 a ticket. So for £17.50 a month you can become a Cineworld member and will have unlimited movies and 10% of food and drink. Free parking outside which gets filled up at peak times very quickly.

CS gave me 2x free tickets (worth £5 given Meerkat 2-4-1) which ran out during Covid so never used and CS refused to re-send.
