I've been roped into visiting this place 4-5 times now by friends who think it's "pretty". Pretty, in my opinion, doesn't cut it. I don't mind paying for great tasting food, but it's not. The sandwiches seem to be either "grandma-like" or cobbled together from ingredients that just don't taste good together. I had "The President" yesterday (grilled chicken, hot pepper rings, spinach, tomato, blue cheese dressing). It was *drenched* in orange hot sauce and much too spicy and messy for me. (I went through a half-dozen napkins.) Somehow, the rye bread, buffalo sauce, spinach and tomato didn't go well together. I thought I'd balance my burning taste buds with something sweet, so I bought a macaroon cookie and date bar. They were good, but extremely expensive given the size. I first went here as a group meeting and brunch. I never knew the place existed. The place was cute, super clean, the food was great and the service was top notch too. On the way out I bought some pastries to bring home. Everything was very good. Now when I'm in the area I stop in for coffee and a little something and I have picked up some things to bring to parties and to work and everyone is always asking where I got them! read more

I have been a customer for years, and loved the food every time. Recently there has been a change in employees, and the service is horrible. I have gone several times recently and have had my order messed up and have been charged incorrectly as well. Last Friday 9/30/16 I called in a salad for pick, paid the cashier and waited patiently, had to wait more than 20 minutes after traveling for 10 minutes. After being given my order, I turned to walk out the door, and one of the new employees yells after me "did you pay for that?" The whole restaurant turned and looked at me. How embarrassing. This is a great little sandwhich/ bakery shop. If I had to describe it in one word it would be quaint. There are little teapots lining the walls and a nice garden area in the backyard where you can eat your sandwiches. They decorate beautifully in the holidays and you must try their gingerbread men! read more

I called New Boston Bakery to place an order for takeout today. I ordered cookies and muffins and six sandwiches. I was told, without asking, that it would be $45.00, which seemed a little high, but I've noticed that the prices there have been steadily going up (I've been going there for years). When I went to pick things up, low and behold, it was TWICE what I was told-$100.00 with tax! Well, it seemed, it was an incredible $45.00 for either the cookies and muffins, and another $45.00 for the sandwiches. Why not be up front with this? Certainly the best bakery and sandwich shop in Fall River. The food is healthy prepared well and while it is more costly them other places in Fall River it is certainly worth it! The owners and staff at the new Boston bakery has some of the finest people in the city and serve the finest food in my opinion. read more

I've eaten *a lot* of pastry from here in the past few years; all of it has been excellent. My absolute favorite is the raspberry turnover w/ whipped cream. It's exactly right -- enough fruit w/o being goopy, flaky dough, not-too-sweet cream, and just the right amount of glaze. Their cases often sell out, so considering going on the earlier side. I agree with Darlene. The food is great most of the time. You have to watch the muffins. Since they are left in baskets what doesn't sell today are left for tomorrow. Had a stale apple muffin so now I look to see what basket is full. I've been going in there for almost three years and still find the women behind the counter not welcoming. And to add to that one day recently was waited on by a man and he offered to warm or grill the muffin I ordered. In all the time I've gone there they've never offered to do that before. I was trying not to take the attitude personally but I guess I'll find another place where they will welcome me with a smile and how are you. Also went in around 3:30pm one day for a quick sandwich and just like Darlene said as I started to eat one of the women came out and started to do the floor. I wanted to support small business owners in the area instead of chains, but may have to rethink this. The owner is a total lunatic who is very unprofessional. I would never order from this facility again. I placed an order for an account of mine and apparently he needs a day to complete an order for a few sandwiches and a large salad. I was not told this would be an issue when I placed the order. He got his undies in a bunch and went off on my in the restaurant. I also specifically said that my customer didn't want onions, it was actually an allergy and whomever prepared it added a TON of onions. All throughout the salad. We've eaten here about five times over the past year or so -- after finally "discovering" it. Other posters are right; it's a Fall River gem. While there are other good places to eat, this one consistently has excellent soups and very good sandwiches. The baked goodies also are quite tasty -- all made right there. The people are unfailingly friendly and helpful and from eaves dropping on the conversation between customers and staff, it's clear there is a regular clientele. after reading other people's opinions about this place: I decided to try this place out....it definely does NOT DISSAPOINT!!!! Very nice and cozy place to go and eat. my son initially had his reservations about the area....he was afraid it was in a sketchy area of Fall River....Obviously, the fact that most of Fall River looks like it needs a face lift didn't help. But once we found the place, which was actually about 5 minutes away from where we were shopping and went inside....WOW!!! I ordered the day's special which was a soup, sandwich and a soda....he had the ROBESON panini sandwich and a soda. while eating he was looking over their dessert selection. Terrible experience for a very important birthday. I ordered a cake two weeks before I would need it, plenty of notice, I would think. I was wrong. I came in the day it was due to be picked up and paid for and was told by the baker that he forgot all about the order. I thought he was joking, because of the deadpan, matter-of-fact manner this was presented. When I asked if he was in fact serious, all he said was yes, I forgot. He then went on to use the snow storm as an excuse. When I pointed out that the snow storm was five days ago, he then said the slip it had been written on had fallen behind something and that he didn't see it. Now this was all very disappointing to begin with, and infuriating since I had planned in advance and gave plenty of notice, never mind the surprise that a place like this doesn't have a better system for organizing their orders, but it was the dismissive, unapologetic manner in which it was presented. He made no attempt to apologize, and treated me as if I was inconveniencing him by asking for a cake I ordered two weeks ago. There was no offer to make another either, or to make amends in anyway. All he said was that he had no cake for me and that was that, then just stared at me, expecting me to just walk away. I will never ever order or buy a thing from this place again, not only because of the fact that they forgot my order, but mainly because of the way it was handled, or more accurately, NOT handled. "Oh, I forgot. And no, I have nothing for you." Nice way to run a business. read more

Delicious pastries; fresh salads and sandwiches; pretty atrium and garden seating. Those are all the positives. The negatives occur if you are too close to closing time, which is supposedly 5:00 PM weekdays. Friends and I used to go after work in the late afternoon to have a place to sit and chat with coffee and pastries and often full lunches and then more pastries. The women owners and workers start sweeping up around you and spraying down the nearby tables as early as 4:30 PM. After 15 minutes of this type of activity, we usually get the hint and start to leave, however, as a place of business that closes at 5:00 PM, I think customers should feel comfortable staying close until that time, not before. The place is welcoming, but the people are not. My mother is visiting from Florida and had an urge for lemon squares after dropping off a rental car in Fall River. It was 4:30 PM, but I knew I could make it there in 15 minutes, but I warned her about the off putting attitude we'd receive, but figured it was worth the special dessert for her. We walked in at almost 4:50 PM, and we did "get the look" as the owner was counting out the cash register. We waited for her, as she seemed busy, but she briskly told us she was ready when we were, as she was waiting for us to decide. I can't imagine that others haven't experienced this, but I guess the fact that the food and pastries are worth it, people are willing to overlook the unfriendliness. I know that my friends and I would go at least twice as much as we have done in the past and recommend it more if the atmosphere and people were more welcoming instead of acting like they are doing us a favor by serving us instead of being grateful for the business. They might consider closing at 4:30 PM if they would like to be out the door at that time. read more

I have been going to NBB since I was a little little girl...before they even offered anything else but pastries/deserts. And I have always LOVED it. I also love that I live in the highlands and can walk there in less then ten minutes (even though when I'm lazy I drive lol). Every single one of their items is delicious! They only use fresh ingredients. I honestly have never had something from here that I haven't liked or that was made wrong, etc. I'm still hoping and wishing for that miraculous, glorious day when they bring back one of the daily specials I had a while back. It was heaven in my mouth and I heard angels singing when I took my first bite. It was this hummus veggie wrap with roasted red peppers and kalamata olives and ohhhh just amazingly goodness all around. I haven't seen it back yet though unfortunately, so I will continue to keep checking their website everyday to see what the daily specials are. Anywayssss...their spinach salad is another one of my favorites along with the thanksgiving grinder. Every single one of the deserts is sinful in the best way possible. I LOVE their lemon squares! Along with their usual everyday pastries, they will have rare ones here and there. Like the other day they had a chambord cheesecake thing and it was perfection. Another time they had a banana cream pie where the turnovers are and I bought the whole thing lol. I seriously did. If you're looking for a bakery this is the only option. Of course there are numerous portuguese style bakeries all throughout the city, but those are in a different category all their own. This bakery is a more old fashioned country style kind of bakery. Also the atmosphere is so cozy and warm feeling. Something straight out of Gilmore Girls. You will never be disappointed here. I come here at least twice a week. read more
