Nevin Park is so much more than just a park. It is a terrific place to bring your family. I was very surprised by all the features of the park. They have playgrounds, a spray fountain water park, horse shoes, trails, bbq pits and much more. The park itself is very clean. The playground has these swings that I never in my life seen before but they keep your kids pretty secure. The playground is set up to a race track theme and provides lots of play options for all kids, all ages. The spray fountain is also a very nice area. It is covered with a large blue tarp which is a pretty thoughtful feature. The water is mixed with chlorine and thank god, because some days the smell of pee can be detected. This area seems to be the highlight of the park for all the kids and tends to be the busiest part. Hands down, this is a pretty awesome park. My son loves it and I do too.

I consider Kilborne Park my home disc golf course since it is closest to my house and it was where…read moreI first started chucking frisbees. It is a fantastic beginner course for those that want to play the standard tees. The Charlotte Disc Golf Club and the Parks and Recreation Commision have done a lot to this park and course over the last couple of years that have made it more open and family friendly. With only two par fours on the scorecard according to the CDGC, it is a relatively short course with not too many crazy elevation changes. You can easily just go out and play the whole thing as a par three. The addition of tee boxes farther back and, at times, hidden additional baskets makes the Skillborne course a bit of a challenge. The difficulty of playing Skillborne has also increased since upon arriving to a few of the goals, there have been either no chains or only just the basket pole. The course is laden with poison ivy, so either keep it on the fairway, or take some sort of protection along with you.

It was the trail that got my attention as I got in a bit of walking about and fresh air while maintaining my social distancing. The parking lot is open but the playground is off limits at this time. There's so much to do here for all ages and activity levels. I personally go mainly for the tennis courts, and my review is mostly based on that experience. I play with a beginner tennis group there every Thursday, and the tennis area is great. There are a ton of courts in the back of the park, maybe around 10 or more, so it never feels overcrowded. There's also plenty of parking, which makes it really convenient. I recently reserved a court through the Mecklenburg County app, and the process was super easy. It was only about $5 an hour, and I heard they'll let you rebook or refund you if it rains, which is a nice touch. The entire park feels very clean, safe, and welcoming. There are bathrooms nearby, walking and hiking areas, places to bring your dogs, and other sports areas too. I've seen people playing frisbee golf and just enjoying the park in general. It's one of those parks where you can really spend the whole day doing different activities. I live in the NoDa area, and it's only about 15 minutes away from me, so it's definitely worth the drive. I would absolutely recommend this park, especially if you play tennis because there are plenty of courts and the atmosphere is really nice.

The pond is usually stocked with catch and release fish. There are activity buildings, baseball fields, a dirt bike track, there's something for everyone!
