Upon my cat's annual follow-up in 2024 the vet "found worms." I was told the YEAR PRIOR at his…read morephysical that he was clean. So for a year he had worms??? Despite being tested, and of course my paying for all of that in his initial check up and after I got him back from T.A.R.A., he had to go on a dewormer. And I had to also pay AGAIN for another fecal test to see if he was clean. Can I even trust that though?
VAX WARNING: Dr. G wanted to combine a rabies shot with the distemper and I told him absolutely not. I am aware that this combo can cause animals to overheat and will kill them. And it literally just happened to my boyfriend's dog who was given rabies and distemper. I told this to Dr. G and he said he's aware that can happen, which is why he only gives the one year rabies shot with distemper so it will hopefully reduce the chance of that happening. WHAT?! How about NOT combining those two AT ALL to eliminate the chance of killing somebody's pet? Rabies shot should never be combined with anything.
I did consent to the distemper, which I felt pressured to do. Well, he didn't need it, especially being strictly indoors. The vet also caused a massive welt in my cat's shoulder at the injection site. I called the vet office asap and the girl who answered the phone told me they don't give shots in animals' shoulders. I told her well that's where he was given this vax. She was arguing with me until she finally checked his chart and said that yes for some reason they did give him the shot in his shoulder. She told me if it does not start to go away soon then to bring him back in. Alot of prayer later and the injury did go away on its own and he does not seem to have suffered any permanent damage from it. Although the distemper shot made him extremely thirsty, and he was very lethargic and dazed for a full day. Never again.
I also did not like that they wanted to clean his teeth (which had no tartar) with a "toothpaste" that is 100% toxic for cats and dogs and should never be something they ingest. I felt that I got a bit of an attitude when I expressed extreme concern that they would use a toothpaste full of poison, basically. They did ask me to explain my concerns which was considerate, so I sent a thorough letter explaining each ingredient and how it's contraindicated for animals to ingest. It can literally kill them. There seemed to be no concern. I know that vet offices are going to use what they want, and what pharma companies are pushing, so if I don't like that then I obviously have to go elsewhere. I was also told that he could get his teeth cleaned without the toothpaste but he didn't have any tartar so I decided against it..
When they wanted to check his urine they took him into the back and when they brought him back to me he was soaked with some kind of nasty smelling fluid, and he looked absolutely stunned and traumatized. They acted like this was normal and I received no explanation for what happened.
When I saw Dr. B the year prior my cat was treated with respect and Dr. B seemed very compassionate and caring, which is why I initially gave this office a 5 star review.
However I did not like Dr. G at all and saw that this was not a safe place for my cat.
Lastly, I felt extremely disrespected when Dr. G expressed his opinion (unsolicited) about whether or not it was a good idea to have rescued my cat off the street? Dr. G had ZERO knowledge of the horrible, dangerous, and disgusting living conditions my cat was in. He did not even ask.
Dr. G said my cat was just going to be bored now living inside, and maybe it's best to just leave them outside. WHAT?! I didn't expect a hero's welcome for getting my sweet cat off the street. But for the vet to tell me that my cat will just be bored and unhappy now in his new, safe, clean, loving, healthy home with steady, good food was just grossly unprofessional and uncalled for. Especially because I know I can't replicate the outdoors for him.
Too many issues with this place and sadly more and more vet offices are not the loving and concerned places they used to be years ago. I will take my cat elsewhere if he needs the doc. To have experienced so much negativity, causes for concern, and issues, especially only on and from a 2nd visit, is a no go for me.
I have numerous family members and friends with pets and nobody has ever gone to this office. I initially brought my rescue here because Dr. B is supposed to be familiar with handing strays and rescues. She was lovely. But my second visit turned out to be with another vet and I experienced entirely too many red flags. I hope if you go here that it's nice for you.
