My mother passed away 7 hours ago and the technicians finally showed up. They were very caring and great. My problem is that we NEVER received ANY communication from Neptune. We had to chase them over and over again. When we did get a call they said they would be here 615 or 630. They finally arrived at 730pm without any sort of notification. I know things happen and come up, but even on a Saturday one would expect some sort of dialog between Neptune and my family about my Mom's remains. Let alone that my 87 year old Father had to wait in limbo while the love of his life lay motionless in the next room. They made an already difficult day even more stressful. Again, nothing against the lovely people who did show up. But this is a service that we are paying for at a time of distress and sadness and this felt like a big fail. A simple phone call to say that they were behind schedule would have made all the difference. I only hope the rest of the process with Neptune is better. read more

After my father passed recently we saw the paperwork for Neptune in his file. Three years ago, when he was noticeably frail, one of their salesman talked him into a prepaid cremation. These are against the law in WA state. The package is a complete scam. It is $35 a month for 7 years (!!). Cremation does not cost $3K. Basically, they are charging $1,612 for a wood box. Their bad business practices are why they were recently sued for millions, a case they lost. There are no favors here for not having a finance charge, they aren't providing anything until someone dies. Do not, under any circumstances, do business with these people. There is a reason the State of WA made this practice illegal. read more

I was fortunate to select Neptune Society as the first service to call and reached Will Saul. Will was compassionate and caring. I was sold a package over the phone in 2021. I am a senior and my husband left me at the age of 77, I was 63. I was worried about the future so I bought a 5,000 plan. I have paid fifty dollars a month for over two years. I have 2,200 in my account. I wrote to them to inform them that I'd like to take my money out, that I have decided cremation is not for me. They refunded me 200 dollars and are planning to keep 2,000 which they said I owe for the box. I offered to r E turn the box. I was declined. This is ELDER ABUSE at its very finest! The local funeral director in Portland OR for Neptune (Regan Hinton) was great to work with. He was responsive to our questions and simplified the process for us. My mother pre-paid for this service, which made it so easy for us as a family. We didn't have to try to figure out what to do. My father passed a few years ago sold probably hundreds on the Nep Soc. What a scam, they claimed they lost the cert number we had. We were not in clear mind and paid $1,200 (was far less when my father bought it). They showed up at the door with the gurney to place the body. They opened a plastic bag and were going to put him in. My sister said could you at least wrap him in a sheet, I will get one. The driver said no we have them but because of covid.... VERY LAZY! Then they go to put him in the ODYSSEY (older model) was so old the back would not stay up and the two people had a hard time getting him in as one had to hold the top because the prop was broken on the Odyssey. I think they are a scam and look at other cremation services in your area my brother was 800 including all fees. We bought the urn online at quarter the cost and better looking at Walmart. read more

I have called and ask them to please remove all of the information they have of me and to stop texting me, calling me or sending me any information in the mail! Regan went far above the call of duty! Even after Neptune had fulfilled their services in a state of grace and ease, I needed some assistance and Regan came to the rescue without hesitation! He was my hero in this situation! I strongly encourage using Neptune for cremation arrangements. They make this very emotionally charged situation so much easier to get through. When the people showed up to carry our loved one's body away, they asked some questions I wasn't prepared to answer, especially in my devastated state. My mother had informed us that she had prepaid with them, but she had no paperwork or documentation, only a wooden box for her remains. I mentally prepared myself for a difficult conversation. On the very difficult day of her passing, I reached out to the number on their website. From the very first interaction, I was highly impressed by the professionalism and efficiency of the Neptune team. They moved my mom, took care of her final wishes, and kept us informed on every step. From the day I called until the day I went to pick up her ashes and death certificates, I was consistently impressed with the company. Never once during the entire process did anyone try to "up-sell" me in any regard. I was offered no-cost grief counseling. Today, eight months later, I received an email offering holiday-specific grief counseling, again at no charge. My mother signed up for Neptune Society being told that everything would be taken care of so we, her family, would not have to worry about her cremation. She asked what would happen if she passed before it was paid off and she was told that it would be covered even if she had only made a few payments. She has now just passed after 2 payments and they lied. They are now saying that the family has to pay $2300 for the cremation! We called Neptune and was told that was a sales tactic and nothing they can do about it. We are able to have her moved to a local funeral home and have everything done for a much lesser cost. My second experience with Neptune Society. The 1st was in the Seattle area, and it was fully first class. Unfortunately, the Happy Valley, OR office has several challenges. When I arrived to pick up my Mom's ashes, they could not find the death certificates. 1 week later, 2 calls later, they claimed to have mailed death certificates. Now 10 days after the claimed mailing date,several calls, and still no death certificates, with no ability to prove that, nor to track the mailing. The postmaster tells me it should take no more than 2 days to arrive from their office to my home. According to AARP, 2.5 million cases of ID theft from deceased people occur annually. Death certificates have all the deceased information. Date of birth, mothers maiden name, place of birth, SSN#, home address, name of spouse, the industry they primarily worked in, everything needed for ID theft/fraud. After multiple calls, I asked to speak with the GM, Kristina Taylor: "as a professional" Kristina repeatedly insisted that the death certificates could not be used for ID theft or by anyone other than the "listed informant" ( executor of the estate) She was uncaring about the missing documents and was unconcerned about any risk associated with the data on the documents. Her only solution was to simply wait until the lost mail shows up. She did not understand why I was upset or concerned. Shameful as her office, her leadership, reflect very poorly on the Neptune Society, which generally is first class. read more

My mother passed away in 2009 and Kelly D took care of us. The process was seamless and they aren't pushy. The only thing that upset me, was I decided last minute i wanted to view my mother and the receptionist told me it would be $250 for them to basically lay her covered on a gurney. I was livid. In the end they did the right thing and didn't charge but as they don't embalm or prepare people they should not be charging a fee. All in all the staff is very kind and answers all questions and concerns. Cremation freaks me out so Kelly even showed me the crematory which made it less scary. He bent over backwards to make sure all the necessary paperwork was processed in a very short period of time in order that we could scatter my father's ashes in Oregon. This included him arranging to have documents hand-carried, over-nighted and in all ways possible expedited to make sure we could have the memorial on the date and in the location we'd hoped for. Be wary of this company. An elderly relative met with a sales rep (to save us future trouble) then woke up with second thoughts. The rep had made a home visit and attempted to sell the Neptune "package" deal. In going through the paperwork to insure that everything is cancelled, I saw that they were planning to charge $969 for a "memento package" which consists of a wooden urn, a chest with latch, 25 thank you cards, and a "Neptune information book". My guess is that this junk would have a collective value of about $20 (I'm being generous). Doing a little research reveals why Neptune allocated so much of the budget to the "memento package". Most states require companies that make these kinds of "pre-sales" to hold most of the money in trust so that, in the event that anything happens to the company, buyers will get a refund and be able to switch to a different company. By shifting a large portion of the purchase to "merchandise" the company can pocket the money immediately and avoid their responsibility to hold the funds in trust.
