For more background I contacted the Oregon cremation company shortly after my father died to arrange cremation. We had intended to donate his body to OHSU but due to his injuries this wasn't possible. We spoke with someone at the cremation company on the phone who was pleasant and sympathetic, and then paid online which was easy and straightforward. Almost one month later, after repeated phone calls and status checks we finally received confirmation my father had in fact been cremated, and his remains. When we contacted the company for more information, we were shuffled off to the "director" who was supposed to be handling the case. He was apparently a contractor, not an employee, and the Oregon cremation company made it clear it was was essentially up to him to figure things out. And if he couldn't or dropped the ball...well "just try giving him another call." At a time when when we needed to focus on grieving, we instead had to follow up and remind the "director" to get the body, and do the cremation, and get the death certificates. Where was my dads body in between when he died in the hospital and when he was cremated? They certainly couldn't tell me, and they certainly didn't seem to feel any sort of responsibility to help us through a process that we were not familiar with or to treat his remains with some sort of dignity. They did have a decent website and search placement on google, so kudos on that.

I arrived just after 4:30 only to discover they were closed. So I went to see if they had posted hours by the door. Just then some guy rolls up tells me they are closed, thanks captain obvious. Then proceeds to ask me a bunch of questions which i was in no mood for. Not very tactful so I did not respond kindly. I hope to god this is not the beginning of a regretful experience. From the looks of these reviews I am quite concerned. People are mourning their loved ones, don't berate them with a bunch of questions just because you geniuses don't have the common sense to post your hours anywhere online. Do better!!!!

We heard something good about this funeral home and thought we would try them out to create a wonderful service for our loved one. I just wanted to warn some people before you waste your money at this place, these people are very fake and two-sided. They seemed nice off the bat, but during the reception for my cousin's service, as I was coming out of the restroom, I overheard two of the staff of this funeral home speaking ill of my late cousin. I was so appalled and didn't want to make a scene, and I had to go sit in my car and take a few breathers so I didn't go smack somebody. If you want a funeral home that will take care of your loved one until they are in their final resting place, DON'T GO HERE! If they are happy to speak in such negativity towards their clients, they deserve to have an honest review here. Once again, I am absolutely appalled. What they need is new management and a whole new staff.

My only complaint would be that my loved one died on a Saturday morning. I tried to contact them on Sunday during business hours and spoke with someone who said a funeral director would call me back, but no one did. However, once I called on Monday and spoke directly with a funeral director, everything proceeded smoothly from there. All the paperwork is done on-line. Their prices are good, a big part of this is likely because the office on Millikan (in the City Hall Building in the Beaverton Round) is apparently just a small office with low overhead. The cremation is done through Riverview Abbey. It was done quickly and I was able to pick them up at the Millikan office (you can also pick up at Riverview Abbey). They can mail them to you as well. Obtaining death certificates through them was also easy, as was getting an obituary posted to their website. They are very professional, responsive, and happy to help.

You can pick up a map here and get information on where your loved ones are buried. It is also the starting point for setting up services. We were here on a Monday morning for military funeral honors for recently deceased Air Force Lt Col Keith McCormick. His remains had been cremated, so the ceremony was slightly different than what you might have seen on television since there was no casket. We were given a map and directed to drive to a staging point sign where we were to remain in our cars until the director showed up. Once there, he guided the car procession to a covered pavilion where the ceremony took place. The wood pavilion was on a steep hill. This was challenging for some friends and family who used canes and walkers. We were told to be sure to have individuals with walking limitations ride in the first few cars so they wouldn't have as far to walk. November in Oregon is beautiful with the changing colors of the tree leaves. The pavilion was surrounded in gold and red trees. It was a cool, clear day, but the covered pavilion would have offered us shelter from the rain and the cold had we needed it. There were a few benches for the primary family members to sit on. The rest of us squeezed into the structure lining the back wall and beyond. In front was a small table where Keith's remains sat. Two airmen (both women actually) walked in formation to the front of the pavilion where they did the unfurling, folding, and presentation of the US flag. Off in the distance about 50 yards to the left of the structure, there were 3 airmen dressed in ceremonial uniform. They held their rifles in the air, discharged them and did the final gun salute. An airman also played taps on the bugle. It was a very quick, dignified ceremony that took less than 30 minutes. Apparently this is provided for FREE to all active military and veterans. This is a valuable benefit and only take a small bit of preparation and completion of forms to reserve ones plot, to have a headstone made, and to organize the military honors ceremony.

First we drove into Gate 1 which must have been the original entrance. There was an old, beautiful building that was locked - we were told later that it used to be the main building but they now have a new building that is more updated. We did drive around at the first area which was absolutely beautiful. There were many trees and old graves. We exited the park and drove around to the main entrance and noticed how very large the park is. We were there during the summer where they limit water use. Very much like the other cemeteries we visited, most of the grassy areas were brown. In the fall and winter the rains apparently make it lush and green. We met with Jesze Moloney who was so very kind. He drove us thru the park, showing us the different areas and pointing out the plots that were available and we went over prices. It was very clear to us which area our father would have picked - the Imperial area complete with a pagoda and water fountain - the area was apparently designed with the help of a Feng Shui expert. Jesze walked us through the whole process and bent over backwards to help us thru everything. We are so grateful to him for making the process as smooth as possible. On the day of the funeral, they did a lovely set up in the pagoda per our request. We appreciated the individual tissue packages on each chair. Jesze made sure that our flowers remained on the grave site and sent us photos. He's a true gem of a human and having him by our side thru this difficult time was a true gift.

We had just lost my granddaughter unexpectedly, and he was so wonderful in walking us through the grief to determine next steps and get through a truly difficult time. We had never buried a child before and felt overwhelmed and unsure of what we needed to do. Dennis helped us make a checklist so that we could accomplish everything they needed us to do, as well as knowing what we had to do over at Lincoln Memorial where she would be buried. He was super respectful. He even took the time to wrap the baby and bring her to a room so that I could see her (it was necessary for the Service to be closed casket, but I lived out of State, so this was my only chance to see my newborn grandchild that died unexpectedly at birth). Going that extra mile meant so much to me. We were able to navigate through the tears and sadness, pick out a casket that Jade could be buried in (without needing an additional vault), and receive the help we needed with putting together the Graveside Service and the programs. I designed the inside and back of the programs, and sent them as individual jpgs, and Andrea was kind enough to place them properly so they would print out. They turned out beautifully. We delivered a handmade dress, hat, tights, booties and a blanket and pillow for her to be buried with, along with a note to go inside her little casket. While we never saw her in it, I am sure they provided great care in dressing her tiny little body and placing her little head to rest on the soft satin pillow. On the day of the Service, Andrea arrived with baby Jade, set up the podium and guest book, along with the casket stand. She was helpful in directing the pallbearers and was very kind. We appreciated not only the compassion and helpfulness that was shown during this very unexpected time of grief, but also that Mt. Scott Funeral Home provides all of their services at their Cost for babies that die at birth, which really helped to $ave us money, and that was so helpful. This included all expenses -- the casket as well. What a kind and tremendous difference this made. We highly recommend Mt. Scott Funeral Home and are very, very grateful to Dennis and Andrea! We also respectfully and highly recommend Lincoln Memorial Park as a cemetery (with stunning views, no less), and Affordable Family Markers for the most cost effective and beautiful Family Markers.
