Shrimp Tempura( you get 2 pieces of shrimp and that big onion and zucchini with broccoli

My job is down the street and I had t eaten here since they first opened, and it was good so I thought to give them a try. It is not the same! I ordered the steak and shrimp hibachi, with steak medium. Of course the steak was well done, why do they ask how you want the steak cooked if they aren't going to adhere to it. I also ordered the shrimp tempura and that was terrible. First it should say tempura and vegetables. I don't know if it was the oil the food was cooked in or the vegetables were bad but it definitely isn't something I would order again; I doubt that I would go back unless I see a sign "Under New management" They have added more items to the menu, such as ramen, sushi and some other items. But there is no way I would try the sushi! If the oil is old, I'm not trusting the sushi.

We decided to try Neo Japan even though the reviews overall are less than favorable. The dining area is very clean and the cashier was very sweet, but I really wish we would have heeded the reviews. The veggies you get as one of the choices with the Bento box is mostly onions, as you can see in my pictures. The zucchini is oddly mostly the peels. Yes, peels! I've never seen anything like that before! There were very few actual pieces of zucchini. The shrimp was mostly tasteless and the fried dumplings were overfried and only came with a package of soy sauce, no typical dumpling sauce. My spouse got the salad that didn't even come with any salad dressing. She had to ask for some and all they had was pre-packaged ranch, no ginger dressing at all. The rice was pretty good and so is the white sauce, but all in all, really not worth trying, IMO.

I ordered veggie fried rice... this is what I get... I guess the veggies are invisible?

We are all entitled to our own opinions, right? Well here's mine: Parking: 3 Location: 3 Decor/ambiance: 2 Customer Service: 1 I normally do my best to stay away from 1 STAR establishments BUT i went ahead and went against my fellow yelpers and their reviews. The average rating for this spot is a 1 Star... and its there for a reason! I arrived on evening an hour from the close of the business. When i walked in I was immediately struck by the wet floors and the strong smell of Ammonia that filled the place. They had already put up all of the chairs and had floors flooding with ammonia/ water. This is super dangerous and just down right wrong... an hour before close and this is what customers have to experience. The customer service blowsssss... I wasn't greeted, wasn't welcomed into the restaurant, the guy at the counter just looked at me until I opened my mouth with questions. I felt as if I had disrupted him from something. There was two other guys behind him and they were all ranting in another language on phones. After placing my order it took about 10 minutes to arrive (veggie fried rice and egg roll). So i sat in the ammonia filled dinning room patiently waiting. I watched several other customer come in sliding and coughing at the fumes from the ammonia. Long story short, I got the meal home and there was no veggies in my veggie fried rice. I was livid BUT it was late so i at white rice and an egg roll. If you go to this spot, please inspect your food before leaving and hopefully the customer service is a bit better next time.

Ok. So I like food, not that picky. Following are the the things I ordered. Some where edible. Some not . Worst to best things 1.Ramen- Beef - NOT edible! Pretty sure it was made from spaghetti noodles 2. Hibachi chicken and steak. The meat tasted fishy. Yes and weird texture... are some. Couldn't finish. 3. Dumplings-the attempt was ok. Although they were hallow - I finished 4. veggie tempura... it was battered weird. Fried onions, broccoli, and zucchini. I finished 5. The crab Rangoon was wrapped like spring rolls. I'm not gonna lie. These were yummy. Only two :( still worth it 6. Seaweed salad- can't go wrong All in all. DONT GET THE RAMEN

Hibachi shrimp&steak, green salad!!! Love it

They are always out of the homemade mustard. That's the only reason why I gave them four stars. However, I am always satisfied

(they also have a smaller karaoke room that can fit 20 guests) A few of our favorite dishes included: Soy garlic wings which were crispy, saucy, and finger-licking good. The signature Kinya ramen; rich, decadent, and simply unforgettable!(my buddy enjoyed the tonkatsu ramen with chicken) The sukiyaki with beef; that sweet, savory broth is still living rent free in my mind Shoutout to the soup dumplings; even though i didn't get one, I lived vigorously through my friend's satisfying reactions And to finish, the taiyaki (a fried, fish-shaped pastry filled with creamy sweet red bean paste) served with matcha ice cream, plus brown sugar milk tea with boba. Definitely a go-to spot for good food, good friends, and a fun experience. - Special thanks to our amazing waitress, Claire, and the fantastic staff at Kinya!!

It was great Everything they explained to me I forgot just as quickly, but I had my softest meats here Our server was very sweet and quick to make sure that we didn't ever have to wait for anything she explained each sushi individually and where the fish came from They ship everything from all over the world And the dessert was to die for This is dining like a princess This is the perfect place to take a woman on a date low effort on your part outside of needing to have a reservation*** The omakase is already chosen for you by the chef all you have to do is sit there and enjoy and experience the plates together! Extra brownie points if you can score going to M sushi then taking her to killjoy on Tuesday for their live music so you guys can dance or sit and enjoy more craft cocktails, and each each other's company!

The rolls looked pretty nice when they came out -- colorful with different toppings, sauces drizzled on top, and some green onions. The fish tasted fresh enough and the rice was okay, not too hard or mushy. But honestly, the flavors were just average. Some rolls were a bit too sweet from the sauce, others a little salty from the roe. It was creative, but nothing that really blew me away. The place has a nice warm wooden table vibe and the lighting is good for photos. Service was quick, no long wait. Price-wise, it felt a little expensive for Durham -- four rolls and we weren't super impressed with the value. It was fine for a casual meal, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come back just for the sushi. Might try something else next time or their omakase to see if it's better.
