A bit surprised to see the amount of negative reviews for Neo Japan. We didn't really have any bad experiences here but nothing outstanding either. If you want fast, cheap grilled Hibachi, this is probably the best you can find in this area, which is kind of sad. As expected from any Hibachi joints, highlights here are their Hibachi and Teriyaki options. My girl usually gets the Hibachi Chicken, Shrimp & Steak. I sometimes get that too but I noticed I get more steak and shrimp if I omit the chicken for slightly lesser price. Fried rice that came with the meal was fine - good amount along with the mixed vegetables. As for the quality of meat, shrimp is large; steak quality is not the best but I've had worst from other Hibachi spots. Chicken pieces are quite large but tasteless unless you put your choice of sauces. Kid at the cashier wasn't as bad as what other reviewers said, so maybe he's changed? He was generous when we asked for white sauce, ginger sauce, and chili sauce. The adults are mostly in the background like band mates supporting their little frontman. Ambiance is what you'd expect from a typical Hibachi spot in a shopping strip. Place was clean but water quality did not taste great. We tried their chicken tempura, which is actually a mix of vegetable and chicken tempura, best served with chili sauce. We rarely come here, and the only reason we went here last time was that it was one of the few spots open after 9PM that day. Today my husband ordered Teriyaki Chicken and Shrimp from Japan Express and asked them not to include extra packets of their sause. My job is down the street and I had t eaten here since they first opened, and it was good so I thought to give them a try. It is not the same! I ordered the steak and shrimp hibachi, with steak medium. Of course the steak was well done, why do they ask how you want the steak cooked if they aren't going to adhere to it. I also ordered the shrimp tempura and that was terrible. First it should say tempura and vegetables. I don't know if it was the oil the food was cooked in or the vegetables were bad but it definitely isn't something I would order again; I doubt that I would go back unless I see a sign "Under New management" They have added more items to the menu, such as ramen, sushi and some other items. But there is no way I would try the sushi! If the oil is old, I'm not trusting the sushi. read more

We decided to try Neo Japan even though the reviews overall are less than favorable. The dining area is very clean and the cashier was very sweet, but I really wish we would have heeded the reviews. The veggies you get as one of the choices with the Bento box is mostly onions, as you can see in my pictures. The zucchini is oddly mostly the peels. Yes, peels! I've never seen anything like that before! There were very few actual pieces of zucchini. The shrimp was mostly tasteless and the fried dumplings were overfried and only came with a package of soy sauce, no typical dumpling sauce. My spouse got the salad that didn't even come with any salad dressing. She had to ask for some and all they had was pre-packaged ranch, no ginger dressing at all. The rice was pretty good and so is the white sauce, but all in all, really not worth trying, IMO. read more

Well here's mine: Parking: 3 Location: 3 Decor/ambiance: 2 Customer Service: 1 I normally do my best to stay away from 1 STAR establishments BUT i went ahead and went against my fellow yelpers and their reviews. The average rating for this spot is a 1 Star... and its there for a reason! I arrived on evening an hour from the close of the business. When i walked in I was immediately struck by the wet floors and the strong smell of Ammonia that filled the place. They had already put up all of the chairs and had floors flooding with ammonia/ water. This is super dangerous and just down right wrong... an hour before close and this is what customers have to experience. The customer service blowsssss... I wasn't greeted, wasn't welcomed into the restaurant, the guy at the counter just looked at me until I opened my mouth with questions. I felt as if I had disrupted him from something. There was two other guys behind him and they were all ranting in another language on phones. After placing my order it took about 10 minutes to arrive (veggie fried rice and egg roll). So i sat in the ammonia filled dinning room patiently waiting. I watched several other customer come in sliding and coughing at the fumes from the ammonia. Long story short, I got the meal home and there was no veggies in my veggie fried rice. I was livid BUT it was late so i at white rice and an egg roll. Ok. So I like food, not that picky. Following are the the things I ordered. Some where edible. Some not . Worst to best things 1.Ramen- Beef - NOT edible! The food was meh. I got the beef dumplings and chicken hibachi. It was $15 total. Both were edible but didn't have a lot of flavor. White sauce was good. I got it to go and the inside is clean but felt like they didn't have the air on. It felt really humid inside and then had this public restroom smell throughout the restaurant. That's where the two stars came from. The food was nothing special. We both ordered the Hibachi chicken. The food took a good long while to get made. The chicken was rubbery, and the rice was bland. I have had better from other establishments. Friendly staff and clean bathrooms. The overall cleanliness of the restaurant was good and that's important as well. Wish the food was a little better. Whoever owns this place seems to have a penchant against meat and a strong love for broccoli and onion. I tried the chicken tempura and hibachi chicken and steak. Negatives: - My order of chicken tempura was more deep fried broccoli and onion rings than actual chicken. Chicken was very thin and rubbery with heavy breading. - The meat was totally flavorless. Chicken was rubbery. Steak tasted like it was an extremely low-grade meet. Half the steak was just chunks of rubbery fat. - Under a very thin veneer of meat, most of the hibachi is a large bed of onions and broccoli. - Very little variety for veggies. No carrots. No zucchini. No summer squash. Just tons of broccoli and onion. - None of the flavorful grill marks that are supposed to be a hallmark of hibachi style cooking. Pros: - Rice is ok. - Yum yum sauce is decent. - It's maybe ever so slightly cheaper than similar places, but even if it was, it's totally, TOTALLY not worth it. read more

I ordered steak hibachi. Service was very slow. So slow that I was late getting back to work and there was not many people there either. The steak was fatty and very salty. I asked for no onions and extra zucchini which they did. I only got about 2 broccoli and no carrots. Rice was fine but I cover it in white sauce and when I say cover it I mean drown it. When I walked in I noticed that the place looked a bit outdated, but it was clean & quiet. The guy at the register was nice & it was easy to order. I decided to get my food to go vs eating inside even though there was plenty of space. The taste of the food was ok - not as good as Miyabi's or Benihana, of course. I think the chicken could've been cooked a little longer. The yum yum sauce was very watery which was a disappointment. As I was eating my rice, I spotted a hair which was the icing on the cake. You get what you pay for, but I think they do a good job. Recently, a friend and I stopped in for lunch. He ordered the Hibachi Chicken and I ordered the Terriyaki Chicken. Rice and a sweet sauce to boot. Yummm. We both cleaned our plates and thoroughly enjoyed our lunches! Very affordable and quick. Full meal with a soda came to about $7. YUCK! I got the steak hibachi and it was swimming in grease. Not only that but they obviously don't trim the steak of excess fat because many of my pieces were hunks of cooked fat. It came with onions and zucchini, which I counted 3 total pieces of zucchini with my order. The fried rice was pretty much just rice with soy sauce cooked on the hibachi. This is only for when you need something filling and starchy to soak up some alcohol. I've tried the hibachi chicken and the teriyaki steak & shrimp. Orders come up quickly but the food is barely serviceable. No real flavor depth at all (the garlic sauce can help some with this) and the steak did not seem to be a very quality cut at all. I had dinner here tonight and the experience was horrible. I should've looked at reviews before eating here. The food was so bad. I ordered hibachi steak and the steak tasted like boiled beef that was cold. It was so tough I couldn't even chew it up. The rice was okay but the vegetables were also boiled with 0 flavor. Not hibachi at all. This meal was $10 and I could've gotten better food at the mall food court. I ended up throwing away the food and eating dinner at home.
