I run a BnB and I am very busy in the summer w/ bookings.. and we all know, it's very hot in the…read moresummer.  Issue first started in the summer where my A/C would not cool. Nielson Fire n Ice came and did an inspection and said I needed a new thermostat. The tech said and i quote, "Everything else looks fine, system is running normal". I replaced the thermostat - $150 Two weeks later, guests complain the AC won't cool down. Had to give them a refund. Fire n Ice recommended to install a hard kit - $450 2 days later, new guests complain. Same issue. More guest refunds. Fire in Ice recommends basically a full A/C replace (Condenser, Piston, pressurize and evacuate lines, etc) - $5,225 (reduced by $300 after I requested a discount - this was the best they'd offer).  3 days laters - same issue. Fire n Ice came back.. not sure what they did but managed to get it to temporarily work? Had to refund guest that were there.  Next 5 days did testing and seemed to work.  Cleaners check day of guests arriving and SAME ISSUE! WILL NOT COOL! Fire n Ice can't make it to my house in time. Had to cancel guests entire stay. Fire in Ice installed a new board - $550.  My thought is they still don't know what the issue was and just tried something new every time to see what would stick... costing me loads of money.   So after all that, I'm out approximately $7,500 from Fire n Ice and guest refunds.  And now, fast forward THREE months later, I get ANOTHER invoice for $100.   Avoid at all costs.

They replace our pads and calibrate the swamp cooler every year and are clean, efficient, easy to work with. Brandy always does a great job setting us up at a time that is convenient and solves any minor problem immediately. They even winterize the swamp system and reboot it come spring with fresh filters--no fuss, no mess. Three trucks showed up one afternoon, got everything done before lunch, and left with no traces behind . If only every contractor could be that efficient! A few years back they replaced our entire HVAC system and our electric bills dropped by almost 40%, and the system has never given us a moment of trouble. They didn't stop at the unit--they replaced our old ductwork with a high-efficiency ducting system. The airflow is reprioritized (they explained that's why some rooms were always hot and some were always cold), and the temperature throughout the house is noticeably more even. Great design, skilled installation. There prices are always competitive and they were will to work with us to get the most out of the limited budget that we had.

They were able to get to the house on Monday morning right on time and ready to go. The repair was done quickly and correctly. He showed me the broken part that he removed and charged me less than I expected - frankly. (Google estimated my repair between $250 and $350 and high desert was shy of $200). I'm happy to recommend this business.

Aaron's Air Service

This update is the story about how lucky I was when a micro-burst hit my house last summer and…read morepulled off the roofing. Honestly, at first I didn't feel that lucky. Backstory: I trusted Aaron and so I hired his company to remodel the duct work for my heating and cooling system in the spring of 2017. The existing AC was 12 y/o; it cooled the house well, but expensively. After Aaron's Air finished the duct work, 12" of insulation was added to the attic. Surprisingly, the house was cooler before the duct work was remodeled and the insulation was added; the air conditioner ran more after the duct work remodel, too. I told Aaron the house was not as cool as it had been and that it was a problem. He shut down that conversation by saying that I was remembering wrong; he said that I didn't know how warm or cool my house had been before the remodel. He was sure, however, that it was not as cool as I remembered it. This was total BS. I have an illness that makes me very sensitive to temperature and after Aaron's Air finished, I could no longer stand to live in parts of my home that had once been comfortable. I called him back to the job site several times and he said there was nothing he could do but sell me more equipment. By April of 2017 the house was insufferably hot in places and Aaron said the 12 year old compressor was burned out. I paid $1,200 for a brand new compressor, but the house was still too hot. In June of 2017, defeated I spent $4,400 on a bigger AC unit. Through the summer of 2017, the big new AC did not cool as well as the smaller, older unit and it was so loud I couldn't talk on the phone when it was running; it ran all the time. I complained that the unit should cool better and be quieter. Aaron assured me there was not a single thing he could do to make the system quieter or to make it cool the whole house. The unit ran all of the time without cooling the house. Edison said I was using more energy than before installing a more energy-efficient HVAC unit, before the addition of 12" of insulation, and before the duct work remodel. Aaron handed this off to the larger size of the unit. He suggested that to cool the back of the house he could sell me a split unit that would be ugly and loud and would increase my bills even more. I declined and waited. Fast forward through a year of high utility bills and decreased heating and cooling to July 18, 2018 when a micro-burst took off my roof in the middle of the night. Although it was loud and scary, it was a very good thing for my cooling and heating bill, as it turned out. To put on the new roof, they had to remove the heat pump and the cooler. When the roofer saw the remodeled duct work he noticed that the plenum that held the cooler had ducts on two sides that Aaron's Air had blocked off but had not properly sealed during the duct work remodel. Instead of making proper metal caps and sealing the old ducts with screws and caulking, flat pieces of metal were taped over the ducts. The tape had failed and the ducts had blown open and the air was blowing from the plenum directly into the attic crawlspace. The air was escaping from the system before it even reached the ducts and so an expensive and huge new AC was not cooling my house. The HVAC was so loud because, as the roofer found, when Aaron's Air installed the new unit, they used the same stand the old unit was on. The stand was too short to secure to the rafters and so the unattached side bobbed up and down causing a lot of loud vibration. The roofer fabricated a couple of caps for the unused ducts coming off the plenum and sealed and caulked both; now the unit cools and heats perfectly without running constantly. My Edison bill is sure to fall. The roofer also sistered a block to the rafter and secured the stand to the structure of the house reducing noise from vibration. I shudder to think how much I would have paid over the next twenty years to heat and cool an unoccupiable attic. My calculation, based on the bills for 2017 and 2018 tells me I will save between $600 and $800 a year, now that I am not heating and cooling the unoccupied attic. Over twenty years that is between $12,000 and $16,000. A new asphalt shingle roof for my house costs about $9,500. That is why I say that the day the micro-burst hit my house was a lucky one because it brought me the perfectionistic roofer who caught and fixed the problems Aaron's Air created. That roofer could have blown it off and never said a word. Instead, he saved me thousands of dollars over the coming years and for that I am very grateful. See my review of Johnson Roofing.

Fate would have it that his company installed my unit when the home was built so he's familiar with it! He took care of my problem and earned my trust as a customer.
