Nielson Fire n Ice came and did an inspection and said I needed a new thermostat. The tech said and i quote, "Everything else looks fine, system is running normal". I replaced the thermostat - $150 Two weeks later, guests complain the AC won't cool down. Had to give them a refund. Fire n Ice recommended to install a hard kit - $450 2 days later, new guests complain. Same issue. More guest refunds. Fire in Ice recommends basically a full A/C replace (Condenser, Piston, pressurize and evacuate lines, etc) - $5,225 (reduced by $300 after I requested a discount - this was the best they'd offer).  3 days laters - same issue. Fire n Ice came back.. not sure what they did but managed to get it to temporarily work? Had to refund guest that were there.  Next 5 days did testing and seemed to work.  Cleaners check day of guests arriving and SAME ISSUE! WILL NOT COOL! Fire n Ice can't make it to my house in time. Had to cancel guests entire stay. Fire in Ice installed a new board - $550.  My thought is they still don't know what the issue was and just tried something new every time to see what would stick... costing me loads of money.   So after all that, I'm out approximately $7,500 from Fire n Ice and guest refunds.  And now, fast forward THREE months later, I get ANOTHER invoice for $100.   Avoid at all costs.

They replace our pads and calibrate the swamp cooler every year and are clean, efficient, easy to work with. Brandy always does a great job setting us up at a time that is convenient and solves any minor problem immediately. They even winterize the swamp system and reboot it come spring with fresh filters--no fuss, no mess. Three trucks showed up one afternoon, got everything done before lunch, and left with no traces behind . If only every contractor could be that efficient! A few years back they replaced our entire HVAC system and our electric bills dropped by almost 40%, and the system has never given us a moment of trouble. They didn't stop at the unit--they replaced our old ductwork with a high-efficiency ducting system. The airflow is reprioritized (they explained that's why some rooms were always hot and some were always cold), and the temperature throughout the house is noticeably more even. Great design, skilled installation. There prices are always competitive and they were will to work with us to get the most out of the limited budget that we had.

They were able to get to the house on Monday morning right on time and ready to go. The repair was done quickly and correctly. He showed me the broken part that he removed and charged me less than I expected - frankly. (Google estimated my repair between $250 and $350 and high desert was shy of $200). I'm happy to recommend this business.

Cooling & Heating Repair were the first to respond and set-up an appt. for the same day (Desert Bonus!) Ilia the Wise (Technician) did a quick system check and surmised that one system was low on Freon (take THAT Al Gore and W.E.F!), and both were missing safety switches, in addition to needing filter replacements. Switches were added and operation verified, and filters replaced (except a special order), and Freon topped off. Both systems work like a champ and I'm very thankful for the response time and professionalism. Great work Ilia and C&H Team!

1 Star We called…read morethis company to fix our air conditioner, which suddenly stopped working after years of trouble-free use. The technician diagnosed and replaced a bad capacitor and fuse in about 45 minutes, and the system immediately started cooling perfectly again. But then things got strange. The technician called his office and said he couldn't leave the working parts in until we approved a new, much higher invoice. He actually removed the new parts and reinstalled the broken ones until we agreed to pay. The invoice was vague, not itemized, and he then said he would "add refrigerant" (or later claimed to remove it)--even though cooling had never been the problem. When asked how much refrigerant was needed, the technician gave a random estimate ("I usually add 2-4 lbs") with no real explanation, and never told us about actually removing any. Later, my husband (who is knowledgeable about HVAC) got a completely different technical story from the company--saying refrigerant was removed for supposed "high pressure," despite the system cooling fine (supply air was 57°F with a 90°F house). Adjusting refrigerant before the home cooled is not proper industry practice. It felt like, because the real repair only took 45 minutes, they needed to pull a fast one to justify an inflated bill. The explanations kept changing, and we were left feeling ripped off. We will be reporting this company to the BBB and the California Contractors State License Board. I would not recommend this company to anyone looking for honest service.
