Most recently we visited Toytopia. This exhibit offers the chance to explore a hands-on history of toys from the past and into the future. My kids loved the oversized robotic claw, reminiscent of an amped up arcade machine. It was a blast trying to get the individually articulating fingers to close around the ball in order to lift it into the basket for the big reward. We also enjoyed the oversized battleship game. So fun to play and we spent 20-30 min there. Mr Potato Head was old school fun too. We made a competition out of it to see who could make the wackiest example. I think I won... or maybe my kids let me win. But the favorite had to be the mini arcade they had setup with some of the best old school cabinets. Donkey Kong, DK Jr., Dig Dug and so many more are all here as part of the exhibit and you could spend a long time here without realizing it! Oh and there's even a Zoltar fortune teller too! When you're done at toytopia you can go learn the history of Wilbur D May on the other side of the museum. This is an excellent outdoor space to enjoy the trees, the ponds, the ducks, and the trails. It's so peaceful to walk along the Truckee River, too; the sound of water is quite relaxing. There are 49 acres total at this community park, which also features a swimming pool, playgrounds, a skate park, picnic tables, bbq area, volleyball courts, baseball fields, and public restrooms. I was here early enough to witness the sunrise, too--gorgeous. This is a great space in Reno!

My bias aside though, Im a firm believer there are few parks in the country that are as good as this one. To start, its HUGE! I don't think I've really ever seen the whole thing. There are rolling fields of grass, an "arboretum" which is like taking a walk in the mountains, a lake, playgrounds, a museum, gardens, a dog park, and idk what else. It's so beautiful wherever you go, and you can easily sink a day into exploring here.

There were benches to sit at this park, but they had homeless people setting up camp on them. The park was mostly dirty with trash littered throughout. Several homeless people were lying in the grassy areas. There are no bathrooms at this park. There is no playground equipment at this park. The food was surprisingly good. I tried the chicken wings with their hottest sauce and couldn't stop licking my fingers. They were perfectly crispy and came with a nice side of fries and healthy veggies to dunk in the ranch. The sauce was balanced with a good punch of vinegar and a nice kick of heat and the service team really knew the menu well so they helped guide us to some great selections. The mini golf being themed around our city was a fun time too, and I loved the addition of the Joker, which makes each whole play a little different and the game of mini golf a whole lot more interactive. I loved how it would encourage. Encouraged you to connect with the people you're playing with talk to them and strategize around how to leverage these advantages to help you win. Now the darts was a big surprise. This fancy tech driven dartboard that they have includes a bunch of super fun games that make darts approachable for any person. I'm not a Dart player. Maybe I've thrown one a few times but the variety of games they offer made it super fun. We crashed castles and spaceship ships and played team games in individual games in the our past and all of us were like oh no is it over? Seriously, put Birdeez on your radar for a good time. I used to bring my mom here when she used a wheelchair for mobility...paths are pretty level and hard packed, and there are a couple of observation points paved with that plastic decking...they are holding up very well! There is a mystery here tho...closing hour is listed as 4:00pm, with notices the gate will be locked and your car stuck...but we've been there later in the afternoon and the gate was open and the parking lot full... We had our dog with us, on her leash, only to see a sign as we left, that dogs are not allowed...sorry.

Informational plaques are located throughout the park, describing various aspects of the land, flora, and fauna. Overall, a peaceful park that will get you away from the hustle and bustle.

I have also loved playing with their adult classes on Saturday mornings. When looking at the 2 other main volleyball clubs in Reno, we found Reno Volleyball Club to be the most flexible on time commitments, family-oriented, and with the most reasonable fees. Highly recommend for anyone lookIng for a great volleyball club in Reno!
