I knocked out a front tooth and badly damaged several more of my front teeth in a bike accident years ago. I found Dr. Starr when I was at the end of my rope after multiple failed bone grafts and unattractive temporary prostheses. Thanks to Dr. Starr and his team I have a gorgeous permanent dental prosthesis for my front teeth that is also functional. I can eat most foods without worrying about it. Dr. Starr worked with me to time the work around my pregnancy, and you can see that my smile still looks fabulous five years later. Once at a wedding a Dentist complimented me on my teeth and was astounded to learn they weren't real. It wasn't cheap but it was worth every penny. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Starr. He first treated me several years ago when I had chipped a front tooth. I was nervous about having it repaired, but his work turned out to be flawless -- I could not tell the repaired tooth from the original, and it matched my other front tooth perfectly. Whenever I've seen Dr. Starr -- whether for routine or cosmetic dental work -- he's been patient and gentle, taking time to explain my options and always very concerned with how I'm doing throughout the procedure. Probably a good dentist. Comes very highly recommended. Just don't let them upsell you a toothbrush. The hygienist probably receives commissions if they can sell more electric toothbrushes, I don't understand why they push them when they already have you in the seat. Also I was disturbed when Starr didn't come into the room to actually look into my mouth, he just hung back at the doorway and relied on the images captured on the screen. It was during covid, but he was decked out in protective gear so the least he could have done was take a close look. I might have taken his recommendations seriously if he had. I think he has an excellent reputation among an older clientele for his high expertise and aggressive intervention approach. My rating isn't lower because he's irritable and stuck in his ways so I felt bad when he messaged me to remove my review. read more

I am going out of my way to gush about Dr. Neil Starr. This is one of those times where you are so pleased and grateful for the professional services of someone, that you are delighted to have the chance to share those thoughts with others. For perspective. I have been seeing Dr. Starr for 14 years, over a difficult course of restorative dentistry. Dr. Starr is a "dentist" in name, but his central practice and core skill and talent is in the area of restorative dentistry. In my case, coming to him in my 30s with a mouth filled with the results of less-than-optimal genetic dental structure, he has been involved in replacing old fillings, placing a number of crowns where I had no choice due to destruction of tooth structure, and helping me through the 3 root canals I had (through Dr. Zia...also great) with crowns at that point. After 5 years of seeing him, Dr. Starr also persuaded me to do crowns on my 4 front teeth, which had been ravaged by way too many fillings. All of the work I've done with Starr has been hard. Hard for me, hard work for him, and hard work for his astonishingly talented and dedicated staff (his main assistant, Petra, has been with him for 30 years). While Starr does treat folks like me -- dr's, lawyers, and others who want their mouths to look and function better -- he also has a big practice in the area of facial reconstruction due to accident or birth defect. Quite rewarding work. I am inspired to write this review after a party I attended when a nice woman said of Starr: "I know he's great, but he is expensive." And, yes, he is. But I'm not rich. I've had to go onto my credit card a couple of times to afford his work, but it has been worth every penny. Why? Because the guy is the best. A master. A perfectionist. A fine technician with a sense of artistry. A visionary. An incredibly, incredibly sweet guy. He is down to earth, humble, and caring. Dr. Starr spends more time with his patients than any medical professional I've ever worked with, and just when you think he's done with a process, he'll catch some tiny detail, sit with your mouth another 10-15 minutes and get it absolutely perfect. Very good is not good enough for him. In two weeks I move to Colorado. But I know that in the future, when I have serious dental issues, I will fly in to see him. When it comes to teeth and other critical issues, it is wise not to use someone expensive but to use someone phenomenal if you can possibly do it. If you can, don't hesitate to call him. If he provides you with his thoughts on your course of care, you can be assured he's thought about it extensively. He is a leading light nationally in his industry, and that expertise enures to your benefit. It is also worth knowing that the office is metro-simple from Dupont. His staff (Joan) will use emails to reach you and bend over backwards to make scheduling work, even with Dr. Starr's packed schedule. read more

I am one of those poor souls who chipped a couple of front teeth as a kid on the playground, and have had to get my teeth rebonded a few times in my life. My family dentist, Dr. David Liebeskind, referred me to Dr. Starr to have my darkened bonded teeth fixed before my wedding this July. Dr. Starr not only made room for me in his schedule as soon as possible, but fixed my teeth the same day I went into have an in-person consult. He sat right down and fixed them. He and his dental assistant/nurse have been working together for over 40 years, and it showed throughout the appointment. I couldn't believe I was so lucky to have this pair work on my mouth! I recently came to Dr. Starr to fix a bad bonding job on my front tooth from my regular dentist ( who claimed to be a "cosmetic" dentist). I'll admit, I was skeptical of the outcome considering the work that would have to be done to make my front tooth look natural again. Dr. Starr did not disappoint. He was extremely thorough in explaining what he needed to do to rectify the issue. He seemed to truly care about getting the best possible results for my teeth. He was able to brighten my smile and improve some other issues I was concerned about in addition to the bonding job. His staff is incredibly courteous and professional (especially Joan!). I never had to wait more than a few minutes for each appointment. He is more expensive than most dentists, so I had to go out-of-pocket quite a bit for his services. However, if you are someone looking for good cosmetic work, I think it's definitely worth it. Overall, I am extremely happy with the work that he did. Dr. Starr helped solve a problem that was giving me headaches (literally) and making my jaw hurt so badly I couldn't eat solids. He spent enough time going over my history and checking my bite, and figured out that drastic measures were not needed (no appliances or worse). He solved the problem by making very small adjustments to the biting surfaces and voila, no more pain! The office staff are very accommodating as well - they make sure that everything is right and are quick to get back to you if you have questions or to schedule. I'm a big fan. read more

Dr Starr has made such a positive difference in my life that I don't want to pass up the opportunity to let others know how impressed I am with his expertise, professionalism, and most of all, results. I came to Dr Starr with a broken front tooth, a number of crowns, and large fillings; after seeing a couple of other dentists before him, I felt pretty hopeless. I had an evaluation followed by a consultation where he explained what he thought would be the best way to proceed. I had a good feeling and committed myself to the process. It took a few months and included 2 root canals and gum surgery. Dr Rose, the periodontist who did the surgery told me: " Dr Starr is my dentist, I could go anywhere and I picked him". The procedure is over now and I love my teeth. It was not painless and it was expensive, but Dr Starr is the only dentist who delivered what I was looking for at the end, a beautiful smile that I did not think I could get back. His chairside manner matches his skill with the dental tools - both are exceptional. Like an investigator and an artist combined into one, he asks a serious of questions to diagnose the problem and then he constructs a vision of what he wants your smile to look like when he's done. Then he goes about helping you understand what it will take to get there, and since he is a leader in his field, he has all the latest techniques and technologies available to offer you the very best care.
