We asked 3 different companies for quotes to do some foundation work and encapsulate the…read morecrawlspace, and got wildly different prices for both jobs. I definitely recommend getting multiple quotes and asking as many questions as you can about what is what is not included, no matter what. While we went with a different company for the foundation work, DocAir gave a great quote and scope of work for the encapsulation. In the end, we didn't do their recommended "storm water management", as we had only minor water intrusion from the outside, but a lot of water coming from condensation on the air vents from the incredibly high humidity in the crawlspace (over 90% humidity constantly during the summer), which was also soaking and warping the wood support beams and floor joists and getting behind the insulation. We did: 1) fungus remediation, which included the tedious and hard work of removing a huge amount of dirty and wet insulation under the floorboards, 2) trenching the edges of the crawlspace and installing drain pipes and a sump pump, and 3) encapsulation with dehumidifier (drains into the sump pump), which also included sealing points of entry like pipes and external vents. Note that the other quotes were more expensive and did not even include removing insulation or treating fungus (companies often expect you to hire someone else to do that before they start work). To set expectations, they are quite busy so be patient. It took about a month to get scheduled and another month for them to come out and do the work. A two-man team (Joselino and Orlando) did all the work over 3 days, and they were professional, polite, thorough, and did incredibly high quality work. I had the plumbing inspected before they came to ensure no pipes would leak into the encapsulated space, but they still found a leaky coupling and replaced it! DocAir supplies a remote temperature and humidity meter as well so you can continually compare the house to the crawlspace (you can check the outside weather report for another comparison). It's winter now, but we've recently had a few very rainy days with humidity reaching up to 94% outside. The crawlspace humidity has steadily decreased from 55% immediately after installation to 45% (very good!), and the house/crawlspace temperatures have been within about 5 degrees of each other. This suggests that the crawlspace is effectively insulated from outside temperature and humidity. Also, you can optionally have them come inspect the system every 6 months (for $60 a visit) to ensure everything is still working correctly, change the dehumidifier filter, etc. I plan to do this to make sure everything is still working well with the combined effects of humidity and my AC vents!

We had the pleasure of making his acquaintance today. Our electrical panel required new breakers, and we needed two new outlets to be installed outdoors. We weren't imagining a national heatwave this week when we scheduled the appointment. Undaunted, Bryan worked through the heat for hours upon hours, even right through dinner, and got the job done beautifully and expertly. He was truly amazing! They installed our tankless water heater and a whole-house water purification system, and both jobs went well. Then they came out for one of the two annual HVAC check-ups included in the plan. Nothing was wrong with our attic unit. It had run fine all summer, even through a week-long delay on Hoffman's end getting a tech out for the visit. When he finally came, he recommended some repairs, assured us none were critical, and left. Less than 24 hours later, we woke to a massive leak that had destroyed half an upstairs ceiling. We called and they sent out another technician. The damage was on us, he said, for not approving repairs on the spot. What the first tech said or didn't say? "He said/she said," he told us. A manager would call, he promised. Five business days later: crickets. Hoffman Brothers' website promises to protect your "property, peace of mind, and comfort." We paid for that protection every month. When a leak hit within a day of their own service call, they protected themselves instead.

I was quoted for a sewer line repair, which after breaking ground we realized I had a septic tank and not a sewer. He then filled back up the hole and was on his way. Both Andy & Randy were friendly, but it was such a poor value and over priced. I was charged $1,100 for someone to dig up a hole and then fill back in the hole. This process took 4.5 hours of work of just digging, as he didn't have the proper equipment. They used a saw to cut into the asphalt and I was charged for a saw rental, as well as an added service fee. The saw was dull and not working, which I was told at the time by the plumber. You would assume they would have the proper equipment to do the job. I then had to hire another company come out to investigate further. They dug a much bigger hole with the proper equipment and it took 30 minutes (compared to the same thing taking 4.5 hours with a hand shovel). Do not hire this company, it is a complete rip off with poor communication. Andy did discount my bill and took off an hour of work, but I am still left with a $900 bill of just having a hole dug and then filled back in poorly. Attached is a photo of my $1000 and 4.5 hour of digging hole that was 2' deep by 2'x 3'
