I recently wrote a review for my new AWESOME dentist and it had me thinking about my AWESOME…read moredoctor, Dr. Sorensen. I'm surprised there aren't any reviews of her yet - she runs a small practice but she's a big deal. My first appointment with her was last fall. I was overdue for my annual and, like any normal human being, wasn't looking forward to it. A good friend recommended her with a glowing review. My intention was to call the office, just to ask if she was accepting new patients (she only accepts 600-800 so I figured my chances of getting in were slim). Much to my surprise, Dr. Sorensen was the one to answer the phone! That impressed me enough that I scheduled an appointment for the next week. My first impression of Dr. Sorensen was excellent, and things only got better from there. She literally does everything - she is a one-woman staff, which means she does everything from checking your vitals to dealing with insurance. This approach means that you get to spend more time with her, which means that you feel like anything but just another patient. She also takes a conservative approach to medicine, so when I told her about my occasional anxiety, she recommended things like yoga instead of jumping to more invasive/expensive treatments. Best part of my experience with her? I ended up having a bit of follow-up work the next day, and was obviously concerned about the results. She got back to me the next morning to let me know all was OK and thoroughly explain everything. And the day after that, I got my pap results back. That's right...TWO DAYS after my appointment I got my pap results! I'm used to waiting a minimum of two weeks. She called as soon as she got the results because she didn't want me to worry longer than I needed to...wow. If you are looking for a doctor who uses modern technology (online scheduling, mostly paperless, etc.) but won't provide you with the typical, cold doctor's experience, I strongly recommend Dr. Sorensen.

My initial visit was very through and the Dr took as much time as was needed to understand my medical history, make suggestions, ask questions and actually sit down and have a conversation! That is impressive in todays world. Her practice is purposefully small, self-managed and her interest in medicine and people is clearly visible in how she runs her business and treats her patients. I nearly fell out of my chair when I called to schedule an appointment and Dr Sorensen answered the phone herself. Unheard of! She also makes herself available on nights and weekends to answer calls or come to the office in case urgent issues arise. I believe she truly cares about her patients and wants to manage her practice with the best technology and information available to her. She leverages technology to allow her to have the time to treat the patients, rather than using technology as a crutch to fit more patients into her day. I was thoroughly impressed with Dr. Sorensen, her sense of professionalism was first rate and she has a compassionate manner that is ideal for families looking for a Family Practice. If all small businesses could be run in the same manner Dr Sorensen is running her business, we would have a true sense of what community really means.

Over time, I have come to appreciate Dr. Horvit's approach and have found her to be very supportive. She is focused on helping her patients achieve the level of diabetes control they need while working with them to find an approach that can be maintained. My experience with her has ultimately been very positive. She takes diabetes management seriously, sets clear expectations, and genuinely wants her patients to succeed.

I'm 43 and have dealt with chronic illness for many years. Today I sit here in the office waiting for an appointment to see Amy and I think about how lucky I was 2.5 years ago...and I just hope she never leaves. They are both pleasant with good bedside manner, and the care is fine. However, I can no longer tolerate the billing practices. If you go for an annual wellness visit, you WILL be charged for numerous assessments that were not performed, or for a higher level of care than what was actually provided (in other words, upcharging). I used to overlook this because I had great insurance and it would usually be a $25 copay. Now that I have a high-deductible plan, I refuse to pay over $200 for an annual wellness visit that did not have any diagnostic elements. At my last visit, charges included: -99396 Established patient periodic preventive medicine examination age 40-64 years (yes, this is legitimate) -99214 Established patient office or other outpatient, visit (This is an upcharge. I did not discuss ANY topics besides immunizations, cancer screening, and contraception. These are all components of a wellness visit. A provider cannot charge for both of these visit types) -96127 Brief emotional or behavioral assessment (This charge was for a standard mental health assessment that is considered preventative screening. If you fill out a PHQ-9 and GAD-7 at check-in, they will charge you for it without telling you. You will not be given the option to decline these forms.) -99497 Advance care planning by the physician or other qualified health care professional (This is a flat-out lie. There was absolutely no discussion of advanced directives at my visit.) Lab assessments - Amy ordered a slew of expensive hormonal tests without my consent, and now I'm on the hook to pay Quest. I didn't discuss any concerns that would necessitate a hormone work-up. I have contested the bill with my insurance company. Honestly I am not sure how Inspire stays in business because the billing practices are so blatantly fraudulent.

When my old doctor moved away, I went to Dr. Guerra for a physical as a new patient. In the course of the appt, to explain why I take the medications I do and what I'm looking for in my yearly labs and because it's a part of my general health, I mentioned a health issue, and we discussed it for a few minutes. At the end, she recommended I make a follow-up appointment to discuss it further. Several months later, I get a bill for a copay, due in 7 days. I called her office and was informed that because I discussed something beyond "wellness" at my physical, she marked it as a second, separate appointment. This means that during our conversation, Dr. Guerra decided we were crossing out of "annual physical" territory, and yet decided not to say anything, knowing it would lead to me being double-billed. I understand having a limit on what's discussed at a physical, but I certainly didn't think I'd crossed it, and for Dr. Guerra to encourage the conversation without a hint that she would charge me extra for it is exactly the kind of taking advantage that scares people off from the doctor in the first place. When I called her office to ask about the charge, they twice told me they'd call back and didn't. They ultimately refused to reconsider it. My insurance says this is allowed but that doctors are really supposed to say something first because otherwise it comes off as tricking people.
