I've used this company for many years and today was a major disappointment. Techs were not friendly, they blew the debris out of our gutters and into the landscape beds and our pool. When they weren't using their gas blowers they put them on our deck furniture instead of the ground. They did not perform the standard water flush to ensure everything was working properly. I even asked the tech before they left and he lied to me, said they water tested the entire system. I even found a screwdriver in the bottom of my pool that they must have found in the yard and tossed in there for fun. I don't expect a lot but this service call was offensive. read more

Overpromised and then did not provide service at all. I called around to get a few quotes for gutter cleaning, and was convinced by the very nice salesperson to book their services. I specifically described my house, located in Chicago, on a narrow lot, and asked if they would be able to provide service, given the close spacing of houses. The salesperson assured me they could, said that they used local contractors who were familiar with the area, and we booked a service date. I heard from my next door neighbor that the workers showed up and took a photo of my house while I was taking my children to school, but they did not provide service or leave a door hanger as promised, nor did anyone call me. When I called to follow up, they told me they could not clean my gutters due to the spacing of the houses. I'll be using a more reliable local company in the future instead of a national company like Ned Stevens that overpromises and underdelivers. read more

Worst business I ever had to deal with. The company scams you with getting you to have you on automatic service. Even though I told the workers to cancel my service and I sent them away, they came and clean my gutters when I wasn't home. Called them in early Nov to schedule gutter cleaning. They gave us an estimate, took our credit card, tried to up-sell us to "diamond status," which we declined and they never gave us a date. A few weeks later, we received an update e-mail from them, saying they were running behind but assured us they'd be here by the end of December. I'll give them credit, they didn't say December of which year. As you can guess, December came and went. I called them in Jan before the snow hit and asked what was going on and if they had forgotten us. They assured me they were trying to wrap everything up and should be out "this week or next." Feb came and went and all we saw from them was an apology note with a promise of 10% off when they actually did show. They blamed it on "unprecedented weather" but anyone who does business in New England understands that it can snow as early as October. And December was actually unseasonably warm here, for the most part. It's now March 10th and a crew showed up, unannounced (no call, no e-mail, no text) and pounded on my door (I was on a work call). I heard voices outside and someone walking around my house. They left about 2 minutes later and I saw the truck driving away, so I figured it might be them. Called to confirm and it was, indeed. I was told they needed the water on to complete the job, so they left. Anyone who does business in New England, understands nobody keeps their water on in March. They offered to lower the price but I'd prefer to pay a little extra and hire someone local that will actually show up for the job when they say they will. I suggest you do the same. read more

My husband made the appt. Just to have our gutters cleaned out. He was told we would be notified 2 days prior to them arriving. That did not happen. They were at our house the next morning at 7:20 a.m. no text, no call or anything. When I tried to talk with the employee he just showed me his tablet, and asked me, " do you want the service or not?" Over and over. It was exasperating for him not to speak English. How do they expect him to communicate with the customer. I gave up and told him fine. They parked directly behind my garage doors so I couldn't get out, had to ask them to move. And the next thing I know, I had barely got inside and they were throwing leaves and debris all over my deck. They could have dropped it on my head! They did not explain their process at all to me. I was so glad for them to be finished! And today, they call me, saying a crew was on the way to my house, today is Friday, they came on Tuesday. I did not need them to come back! I had to stop driving, call them, ask them to not come and the customer service agent kept telling me he couldn't stop the crew, they would be at my house to clean up debris! I told him, no, do not come and to handle the problem with the crew! I have never, ever, had so many issues with a gutter cleaning company in my life!!! We have used Ned Stevens for 17 years. We moved last July and I sent an email to ask to cancel my service. Apparently they didn't get it. I keep getting bills from them because they cleaned the gutters one further time after I moved. Needless to say I was agravated and wrote this review. Follow up: I was contacted by Shane at Ned Steven and he apologized for this mishap, removed the charge from my bill and said he will speak to the customer service agents to better handle calls in the future. I had my gutters completely replaced with Ned Stevens 18 months ago. Had them cleaned each season and now they after falling apart and need to be completely replaced. Previous gutters lasted 20 years. You also dont get to speak with the provider then send out to quote you but instead have to speak with a phone associate who never saw the actual damage and has no clue what they are speaking about. I called for an appointment and the guy tried to sell me a whole bunch of extras and would not let up when I said I just wanted a single gutter cleaning. When he would not even tell me when they would show up, that they would just come by whenever, do the work and leave a door hanger on my door, I told him to remove my information. That's not how I do business. You tell me when you're gonna be there and I prefer to be there when work is being done to my home by a crew I don't even know. I am a past customer who finally woke up and dumped Ned Stevens Fairfield NJ. My experience with these guys has been nothing but frustration. They will not call ahead to inform you when they will be coming. Their sales people will only give you a hard sell to buy one of there "money saving" plans and will not even talk to you unless you give them a credit card number. The sales people have lied to me twice this fall regarding an estimated date to clean my gutters. My 90-year-old father had Ned Stevens clean his gutters front and back the size of a 2 car garage for over $100. Ned said he needs it done four times a year so he would just show up and do it and charge his credit card. Before Ned's last appointment I had looked at the gutters myself and nothing was in it. They had called med and canceled the appointment yet a week later they came anyway. He may or may not do a good job on something you can see but if you are a senior citizen and you need somebody you can trust I would not recommend Ned. This is not an honest company. First they take your money up front. Good luck getting them to show up and actually do the job. It took me a month of complaining for them to finally come to my house. Then, they show up (late, of course) and proceed to tell me that the $800 estimate is now over $3,000.00 because you cannot replace only 1 section of a gutter. According to them, if only a small section is slightly damaged, all of your gutters need to be replaced. These guys are scam artists. It could be anyone's paperwork, (hospital not police report) like I told your associate in their email they sent telling me that my review was "unfair" based on what happened. What about the 9 DAYS I was waiting? Your company has a huge time frame of a window 7 days, and 7 a.m. to 4.p.m. This was over the allotted time, with 2 calls from myself to make sure someone was coming, and reassured "yes you're on the schedule", and then a third call, still a no show. I had and have other worked SCHEDULED, and for a reason. I do not need workers getting in the way of each other, and forcing things to be rescheduled. Your response to my review is moot. read more

I had some storm damage that resulted in some damage to decorative flashing on my house as well as causing me to need a new downspout for my gutter. I called on April 4th and explained all of the work I needed. The gentleman on the phone was quick to say that they could perform all of the work. I told him exactly what I needed done, and described in detail about the decorative flashing I needed replaced. I was assured it could be replaced and was given a price. My decision to use this company was based primarily on them being able to "kill two birds with one stone." I was then up sold on having my gutter inspected and cleaned. I just had a tree trimmed in the fall and had my gutters cleaned, but decided since they were here, why not have them look. After all, I am planning to list the property shortly. I was told I had to leave a credit card in order to secure the work. Red flag #1. Once they have your card info, you're stuck. But after all, they stated they could fix it, so no worries-right? I asked when they would be out. I was told 2-3 weeks. They would text before coming and leave an orange door tag after they were done, as I didn't need to be home. Nearly 2 weeks go by, without a peep. I contacted to confirm I was in the system, since I knew it was a simple job. The rep confirmed I was in the system and they had it marked as ASAP. Magically, the next day I get the text that they're coming in 60 minute, and they show up 10 minutes within receipt of the text. They come, attach the downspout and go back to their truck. I get a call from management telling me that they replaced the downspout and cleaned my gutter, but they couldn't replace the flashing, because it wasn't part of the gutter system......I TOLD THEM IT WAS DECORATIVE! And that I only gave them the job because they said they could do it all. Then I discover there's a birds nest in the gutter that must've developed within 2 weeks of my original service call. It's amazing how one can clean a gutter and leave debris such as leaves behind. especially if work was being done, I highly doubt it was an "active nest." Ultimately, the downspout was replaced and I was charged roughly $300 for a $125 job and 5 minutes worth of work without a complete job being done. Be careful leaving card numbers with a company that is eager to obtain work, and then ultimately will pick and choose what it wants to do once it gets there. Any company that is quick to take on a job without proper vetting if they will actually complete said job and forces you to essentially prepay and pre authorize charges to secure work, should probably be second-guessed. Its not like I was having my roof replaced and needed to leave a deposit. read more

I had been a Ned Stevens customer for approximately 10 years. Each year their representative would call and we would negotiate rates. This year unfortunately was different. In January we negotiated the rate for the coming cleanup seasons as expected, however after their first cleanup visit this year they called us to inform us that they were going to raise our yearly rate by 90%. Their reasons were the following... 1) NS states that they had not been charging us the proper rate for almost 10 years. 2) NS states that they surveyed our property and sent pictures of our home back to management who says we should be paying more. 3) NS made a point to inform us that our house is really nice and "beautiful" multiple times as if that's justification to raise our rates. 4) NS states that they do not have to honor our contract as the agreement was made over the phone (as it is done every year) and is not obligated to provide the agreed upon services at the agreed upon rate because there was no physical signature. Needless to say I'm not too happy with this type of business practice and I've ended the contract instead of being hustled into paying them an additional 90% just because their management thinks that I have a "beautiful home". I recommend that Ned Stevens customers begin to evaluate their options for reputable companies that honor their contracts and don't try to bully their customers into paying more under the guise of petty unsolicited compliments... I've already replaced Ned Stevens with another licensed and insured landscaping service. **UPDATE** In response to Shane M from Ned Stevens response... Shane, I'll assume that you don't have access to all the details or the recorded calls, but the price agreed upon with Carrie D, and paid on 1/12/2018 was $875.07. The new price quoted was $1785. So let's do some math... $1785.00 - 875.07 = $909.93 An increase of 103.98% So yes you are correct, my initial estimate of 90% was incorrect, Ned Stevens tried to increase the price of services by 103.98% ... Please do not use this company, they are a scam. They do not give you an appointment or time frame , they just show up. We had to call them again asking when they would come. They stated they were to inspect, clean and reattach any loose bands or gutters. They arrived at 1030 and left at 1040. 10 min to clean, inspect and reattached loose gutters. When I arrived home, the gutters were still detached. Called and spoke to a gentleman that off the bat was defensive when i questioned what the men were supposed to do. When I said they were here for 10 min he snarkly said "so what did they do sit in there truck the whole time? Well if you want to know what YOUR people do I will give you a play by play because I watched them on video. The next day they arrived early and thankful i was home because i stood behind them the whole time. They ran water through the gutters, which they did not do the day before, they fixed all the gutters that were detached and loose. They basically did what they were originally suppose to do. That was because i was home and standing there. All that work should have been done the day before. First off you claim you have been on the business for 60 years..you should then rethink your business strategy because it's not working. Your main complaint is no appointments and that you do this because it's more efficient and better serves the customer.  No it does not. And if the complaints tell you this..then you should think about adjusting that..If work is not being completed or damage is being done to homes and complaints about your customer service then you should reevaluate your staff and start making changes.   People take the time to read the reviews and not scroll through the star rating. You will see that out of 154 reviews they have 84 complaints that's 2 or less star ratings. Sadly I did not and now I have to deal with this aggravation.  After reading all of them I can only say I believe everyone. No company should have this many complaints and all the same complaints. Totally dissatisfied with initial gutter cleaning; they sent a second crew who redid complete job - I had requested gutter trash be bagged, and first crew had no idea that was included in scope. They did not flush gutters properly or downspouts. Still waiting for report on gutters from inspection they supposedly did. Contracted them to perform a roof cleaning - obviously used strong bleach (I could have done that) and left most of the windows in my house streaked with white - have no idea how they could have gotten cleaning solution on my widows. They were also to clean storage shed roof which was included in scope - crew agreed to do it but knew nothing about it. Obviously crews are not getting proper direction. After having my gutters cleaned, I received an email requesting a review. I gave them a "good" review, but then received a phone call asking why I didnt give them a "great" review. When I explained that I knew I had a leak, but they did NOT mention anything to me about it (they said they would inspect for leaks and provide info for repairs), they told me they didn't say anything because they dont repair copper gutters. My gutters are ALUMINUM, not copprr. After several back & forth phone calls, they're still trying to tell me I had copper gutters. Then they said they were sending someone over to inspect my leaky gutter. Instead, they sent over 2 guys who said they were there to "clean my gutters". They knew nothing about any leaky gutters I had. Also- I dont understand why they decided to send anyone back anyway, since they insist my gutters are copper and they can't repair them. Even during our last conversation -when I told them I was reading off the receipt from my gutter install that said "Half Round Aluminum" gutters- they STILL insisted I had copper gutters. Rather than admit they're wrong, they just told me to go get a 2nd opinion. Oh yeah- they also did NOT clean out an underground gutter leading to the street, which they said would be included in the $175.00 gutter cleaning. What a joke. read more

I currently live in Woburn MA and Ned Stevens did an excellent job with cleaning and then repairing one of my gutters. As a new client, I was a little apprehensive at first about giving my credit card number to them up front but the upside is that you don't have to be home when they do the cleaning. This was a relief to me and they did a great job. When I bought this house, I knew that one piece of the front horizontal gutters was either broken or installed wrong because only that piece overflowed from the side while the others drained properly. I had previously called 3 local gutter companies who had good ratings and asked them to quote me on the repair and they ALL said I needed completely new gutters and quoted me $3800-4800. That is just ridiculous. Then I called Ned Stevens and was impressed by the knowledge of the people answering the phones. They really know their stuff and worked with me to create a plan where I had the gutters cleaned first and they made an assessment at that time. Again, I didn't have to be home and I called the office the next day and they gave me a detailed explanation basically stating I was right (Who doesn't love hearing that) and they gave me a quote to fix the broken gutter for just $420. Wow what a savings! They came back a few days later and they created a custom piece that fixed the leak. I was a little worried that having one new piece would stand-out because the existing gutters are old but they custom make the piece so it looks seamless. I will try to attach a pic. Look you can't tell one new piece, maybe about 3-4 feet long, was replaced. And it's raining now and it is not leaking. So I am very happy. I could seriously plan a whole trip to Europe with the money I just saved!! I will always use Ned Stevens now. read more

I utilized Ned Stevens to clean my gutters in December of 2021. I noticed one of the downspouts were leaking water at one of the elbows in March. I contacted the company to advise them of the situation and was expecting them to have someone clean out the downspout due to no foliage on the trees from December to March so what could possibly be clogging the downspout. The representative on the phone stated the gutters get clogged with "winter debris" when I questioned what winter debris was she couldn't give me a logical answer. I asked what it would cost to have someone clean out the problem area she advised it would be a full cleaning of $200. I called last week for an estimate to clean Yankee and aluminum gutters. I explain to the gentleman that the house was 3 stories and he assured me that it would be no problem. He said they would perform the work within 5 days. No problem there. He called me Yesterday and said that the went to the property on Tuesday and that they couldn't do the job for safety reasons. Crew arrived and got to work quickly; I was cutting the grass and didn't even know they were finished until after they left. As I walked around my house to see the work, I noticed that there was a bag of debris still sitting in the front flowerbed next to my porch downspout along with the strainer cap from the top of the downspout, which I expected to be replaced after removal for cleaning. Strike 1. Then I checked the diverters for my rain barrel system. The front diverter had been cleaned after they rinsed out the gutters (great!) but the diverter on my rear downspout was jammed (I mean completely clogged!) with asphalt and debris from rinsing that side of the roof. Having checked it after the heavy rains last week, I knew that it was clean before the workers showed up. Strike 2. I then walked back to my garage and checked the downspouts there. While I had seen one of the workers with a blower on the garage, I realized I never noticed anyone pulling the water hose back there. Sure enough, the downspouts were bone dry. Don't say you flush all the gutters if you don't do that. I'm not even sure the screen were removed from the gutters at all. Strike 3. So I'm glad I passed on the service plan they tried to sell me and instead let this be a trial run for Ned Stevens. It's a hard pass on using them again. read more

All of them are ridiculous but this one stuck with me: "we record all our calls, if anyone would like to hear them contact us..." are you f-ing kidding?!?!?!?!?! That is a federal offense! That single response, more than anything else, finalized my decision to never do business with Ned Stevens! #2 - I called them for a quote, tried to give them detailed info over the phone regarding my house and what I wanted done and I was basically told its $165 base price and they would figure out what was needed as they went. What? If I give you linear footage and height of the gutters, what more do you need? #3 - The hard sell over the phone. I tried, over and over again to insist that I be there when they were and they would not hear it! "We do this all the time", "It's outside work, you don't have to be home", "We'll call you while onsite to discuss". Bull-snot. If you can't schedule an appointment with me at all, forget it!!! #4 - Several of the other reviewers mentioned being unintentionally committed to a contract. If there were 1 or 2 occurrences of this in a few hundred reviews, ok, everyone makes mistakes but this is way too many in my book. Now, I have to decide if I'm going to risk my life finishing working on my gutters or hire someone else.
