I love the coaster because if I'm riding it then it means I'm going somewhere to have a good time. So I'll get to the point there's plenty of parking, security is tight, they have an ATM on the premises and the coaster is pretty clean for the most part. The coaster has two levels and there is enough space to be comfortable. There are a few restrooms but no bar onboard for all you boozers. If you want the best view then you must sit at the top. There's no security on the coaster so beware also they don't always check your tickets. I like the coaster and can't wait to ride again.

Went down to SD for a girls trip and it was my first time on the Coaster! Parking: There is plenty of free parking at the Oceanside station. Tickets:Tickets were easy to get through the machines, although the lines do get backed up closer to the time the train is supposed to depart. Wait Times: No complaints about boarding/departing. We got round trip tickets to and from SD, and both times the train left on time. Be sure to get there at least 10 minutes beforehand to grab a good seat. Seats: The seats are decent and fairly clean. We sat at the ones with the tables and they sit 4 people. Facilities: The bathrooms were diiiirty. Ughh. Try to use them at the first station, because they get worse the more stations you stop at. Overall, we had a blast! It was nice to be able to day drink and not worry about parking in downtown SD or driving later. Also, the scenery is pretty nice as your right along the coast the majority of the time and can see the ocean.

We had so much fun taking the train down to San Diego!! The train was clean and on time. There was plenty of seating and the views were awesome! Nikko loved it as it was his first train ride. I loved it because he was so adorable riding the train. The stops were pretty quick all the way down to SD so we made pretty good time. The trip was an hour. We used that time to enjoy a nice lunch and showed up full and ready to have a fun filled day. The round trip price was 11.00 and Nikko was free. I can't wait to take the train down again

Parking was a little hard to find in this parking lot. We decided to take a short 45 minute train ride south.... the seats were fairly comfortable. Oh, we had to ask a nice lady inside the small building on how to purchase the tickets and where to board.... it was past the parking lot, way to the right, etc. Never would've found it without her directions. When we came back and drove off... the place was crowded with cars trying to leave.... we waited s few signals and most of the cars left. It's like leaving a baseball game and everyone's trying to get out at the same time.

I love train travel, something about its nostalgic time of exploration just excites me. The coaster is a great way to explore San Diego without having the added pains of driving.I have discovered some new places and would not have if I drove to my destination. I appreciate the amenities the coaster provides. The train is usually clean, roomy enough for all my cargo, has a bathroom, tables to eat or work on, free WIFI (which i never have time to use because the stops are so fast or I get distracted by the beautiful scenery) you are even allowed to moderately drink alcohol. The conductors, staff, and security officers are friendly (well at least to me). I always double check the schedule of the train with whomever staff is standing outside and they are always helpful about that. The security officers make me feel safe riding on the train at night and day because that is when most of the action takes place (drunken bums getting kicked off). Don't get freaked most of the people are normal commuters that keep to themselves. The prices are affordable. Round trip for adults 6 & older is $8-11 depending on which 3 zones you are riding from and out of. One way tickets are $4-5.50. Kids under 5 are free. Discounts are given to seniors, disabled, medicare, military, and students of course. This also Includes free transfer to SPRINTER or BREEZE all day. For commuters the monthly pass is $120-165 for adults, $82 youth, senior $41 sold at Albertsons. The coaster has helped me get to a lot of events hassle free like to the fair and races at Del Mar (saves me the $ and burden of parking), to the beaches (saves me from cleaning sand out of my car), to old town for the tequila tastings and Dia De La Muerta (day of the dead), to eat and join in the Festa in Little Italy (food coma), to the street fairs in Carlsbad /Encinitas (saves my car from getting dinged) and other assorted events Downtown. I hope that in the near future more coaster stations and trains are added to expand service to the airport, balboa park, and inland locations.Yes, there is the SPRINTER for service areas inland in NOCO but we need more expansion to encompass most of San Diego. I also wish they would extend their hours later on the weekend for people who want to go to concerts or party downtown (to save us all from drunk driving/drivers) although this probably won't happen because who wants to clean up potential vomit, trash, deal with disorderly conduct or pay for that type of security. Oh well wishful thinking. I am just happy we have an efficient train system running in San Diego! The coaster stations are clean, and provide bathrooms, and snack stalls. Parking is available free of charge at all stations except downtown San Diego at Santa Fe Depot, where metered parking is available. At the Oceanside Transit Center overnight parking is allowed for up to 72 hours except in the new parking structure. (over 72hours up to 2 weeks a parking permit is required from a NCTD officer) At the other stations overnight parking is allowed (except at Old Town) for up to 24 hours only, no long term parking is allowed. Vehicles appearing to be abandoned are subject to tow. Drivers leave autos at COASTER stations and transit centers "at their own risk." NCTD is not responsible for vandalism or theft.

Now with added service on 3 Amtrak trains a day each way, the coaster is even better. See my tip on the new service.

I purchased a $30 ticket to Los Angeles for an important business meeting. I arrived with my Segway -- a small, compact mobility device I've traveled with over 100 times without issue. Suddenly, I was told it was "prohibited" and I would not be allowed to board the train. No clear explanation. No attempt to problem-solve. Just flat-out refusal. The way it was handled was even worse. The staff raised their voices, treated me like I was doing something criminal, and even threatened to call the police for "trespassing." Trespassing? With a valid paid ticket? Completely unprofessional and humiliating. Meanwhile, I've personally seen electric bikes, scooters, and other devices allowed without issue. So what exactly is the policy? It felt inconsistent at best and borderline discriminatory at worst. Because of this, I missed an important meeting in Los Angeles and it cost me serious money. There was zero empathy, zero customer service, and zero accountability. This was not just inconvenience -- it was a complete failure of professionalism. I will be contacting corporate directly and requesting a formal explanation of their policy and how their staff handled this situation. Extremely disappointed. I will be reconsidering using Amtrak in the future. They have to address this major concern immediately a total disgrace. Amen

Came here a couple of months ago to take the Pacific Surfliner along the coast to Santa Barbara. Station itself like pretty much most similar situations in the U.S. seemed organized, well-runned, and understaffed (as compared to some other places in the world). We tried to get some confirmation on some things around luggage and our pre-purchased ticket from the booth, but there was nobody there to answer our questions (think the guy was working on something else around the platform). A bit of line began to form waiting for someone to show up. So we called the Amtrak number to try to get things sorted out and after waiting for awhile the operator and answered and the conclusion of the discussion was something to the effect of: "we can't really help you in an efficient way here over the phone, but there should be someone at the booth soon given how much time remains." And then kind of what often happens, happened: guy showed up, answered my questions, took care of my problems, took care of everybody on the line, got everything done within like 8-10 minutes, all with about 10 minutes left before the train arrives. Pretty efficient to say the least. The train ride itself was quite good, and I wrote about it elsewhere. Quite amazing and highly recommend. Also very different from what I'm used to in East Asia on several levels.

This Sunday when we returned to Oceanside upon Entering our vehicle I received a notification that my wallet was left behind. I immediately ran back to the Coaster and could see my wallet on the seat where it had fallen out of my pocket. However all the doors were closed, I noticed an employee walking towards the front of the train and ran towards him while repeatedly calling for him only to be ignored. I reached him as he was climbing up to where the driver was also sitting and asked him if he could please open the door so I could quickly hop on and grab it. He said NO we're going home You'll have to contact lost and found. That's policy he said.. Long story short, my wallet had an AirTag in it so I tracked it all night where it sat in the train yard, and went to bed at 11 PM. Woke up the next morning and my wallet was an hour and a half away near Hemet. Call the Hemet sheriff department and they went to the location and talked to the resident who said he was a manager for the train and he accidentally picked up my wallet and put it in his pocket. I wonder if that is policy needless to say it was empty and two days later all my cards & ID were returned to me by a sergeant from Camp Pendleton, who found them scattered along the road, leaving the train yard. So be careful not to leave anything behind on the train, especially your wallet because they're employees and management are thieves and very dishonest.

You can purchase a pass at the transit center OR download the Pronto app and purchase them that way. The train is equipped with an upper and lower deck. Some seating have a table so you can do work or eat on. Do they run on time? Not 100% of the time. But a lot of that has to do with the fact that sometimes they need to wait for another train to pass by, weather conditions and some other factors that are out of their control. But you get to where you need to and safely. I highly recommend the coaster. Especially if you hate the 5 traffic! *Oceanside Transit Center: The public bathroom is atrocious!!!*
