If you want to visit downtown Oceanside or the Oceanside Pier, this Metrolink stop will get you there. Located pretty central to the beach/pier side and downtown. Make sure you know which tracks you're going or coming to, as arrivals an departures are on opposite side of the tracks. There's good seating here while you're waiting for the train. I was able to relax in a comfortable seat, read my book, and didn't have a endure a congested 5 freeway. It only cost $14, so it was well worth the price. Took the Coaster from Carlsbad to Oceanside. We disembarked at the Oceanside Metrolink Station. The station appeared clean and well kept. We didn't notice an abundance of trash, no graffiti that we could see either. We were there during the day and it seemed perfectly safe. Can't speak to nighttime though. It was a short walk to the shops, restaurants and bars in O-Side. Perfectly acceptable. read more

The Oceanside Metrolink Station is the furthest south one can go on Metrolink, although you can board Amtrak or a bus to continue to San Diego. Downtown Oceanside is a quick walk from the station and there is plenty to see and enjoy there. Keep an eye on your belongings because the station is a little sketchy and I didn't see as much of a security or police presence as LA Union Station. read more

Oceanside Transit Center is huge, so getting off Metrolink, I was trying to figure things out, the layout, how to get to downtown, etc. It's a passage underneath that takes you on the other side so you can reach downtown fast. The stop is in parallel with the ocean so you get to have a scenic view from the train. If you take any trains from this station, it's a good idea to come ahead of time to orientate yourself since this is a major hub: Greyhound, Metrolink, Amtrak, Coaster, Sprinter, etc. There's a big parking lot. I found the machine to get tickets to Metrolink fast, no issue getting my weekend pass (a great idea, $10/person). The, checked my train on a display to see the platform, took the underground passage to Platform 2 for LA. There are no announcements so check that display! The train came earlier, so that was great to wait less outside in the cold, on the platform. It's the end of the line so the train stayed here for a while, otherwise it leaves the station fast, within a minute. So, do your homework, prepare, be ahead of time and you'll be fine! I got my tickets online and just before arriving to the station I activated them upon arrival many people were waiting for the train after waiting 20 minutes we were notified no trains would be running that day I had paid for 3 tickets and spoke to a customer service representative that said I would need to put in a request online. $10 for a weekend day trip to the Southland? Inconceivable! (Yes, I know what that word means...) And yet, that's the cost of a Metrolink ticket from Oceanside to Fullerton, ultimately ending at Union Station in Los Angeles. Sometimes, when I want to save some wear and tear on my car visiting my girlfriend up north for the day, I'll take the Metrolink up. The Oceanside station is a transportation hub, with stations for Greyhound and Amtrak, ticket kiosks for the Metrolink, Coaster, and Sprinter, and cab services waiting curbside. Granted, the station isn't too clean, the Burger King on premises is overpriced (go for the snack machines, they're cheaper), and the line to get your Metrolink ticket gets long - especially as the train leaves on time, so get there early! - but at least there's ample parking, and once you get your ticket, and get on the train, prepare yourself for a smooth trip. No dealing with traffic, a pretty quiet ride, and I can read my Kindle Fire HD during the trip up? Cool! read more

I'm a huge fan of taking the Metrolink to LA which makes travel so much less stressful than driving in traffic for two hours. It's free parking in the lot and I've never had a problem finding a spot. There's also a pay lot right by the track which is great. Of course since this is a transit station, there are some homeless people who hang around and are hanging out in the bathrooms. I've never had any issues but I stay alert and watch my stuff. There's a random Burger King there if you want that sort of thing. But I can't eat there. I have taken 2 stars because the machines that sell tickets are terrible. There are only 2, are slow, the buttons need to be pushed several times in order to work, and when it finally comes the time to pay, sometimes the reader cannot read the card. This scenario happened to 2 of the 4 people ahead of me on the line, and even though I had allocated 12 extra minutes to buy the ticket, I almost missed the train. I had to RUN, carrying all my stuff (laptop, purse and gym bag) and barely made it in time. As I was boarding, they gave the final announcement that the train was about to leave!!! Metrolink needs to add more machines to buy tickets and upgrade those machines to this century! My tip is to get there 20-30 minutes ahead of time to buy tickets. The train itself is similar to the Coaster, clean and comfortable, but does not have free wifi. read more

After living in San Diego for 9 years, I cannot believe that I have never used the Metrolink until now. My friend and I heard through the grapevine that one could use the Metrolink to get to Disneyland and as annual pass holders, this was a pleasant surprise. While driving still makes sense sometimes, it is nice to have another option in which no one has to drive and everyone can enjoy a nice relaxing ride to the happiest place on earth, while avoiding traffic! For $10 on Saturdays and Sundays, you can ride to your heart's desire. The train ticket also acts as a bus ticket, which is how we got to Disney's front gates from the Anaheim Metrolink Station. The Oceanside Metrolink Station has a decent sized parking lot in the nicer area of Oceanside complete with plenty of lamp posts and charging stations for you electric car drivers. It also has a couple of places to grab food, which I'd imagine is nice for you work commuters. Unfortunately, there is only one automated kiosk to purchase a Metrolink ticket. Luckily, my friend and I arrived in time to be the first in line, but as the machine is extremely slow, by the time we finished there were at least 8 people behind us. I foresee that being an issue for those trying to catch a certain timed train. Also, compared to the trolley stations around San Diego, the directions regarding which train to board and when were non existent. My friend and I had to ask some regular riders where to go and what to do. The ride up the coast is awesome, with beautiful ocean views that you cannot see off of the freeway. I do wish they would invest some time in washing their trains more often because the windows were so incredibly dirty that it was tough to fully enjoy the scenery. read more

For a nice beach side community this station is a dump. It is shared by Amtrak, Metrolink, Coaster, Sprinter, and the homeless. The local bus company is there too. The bad review is for the nasty restroom. I thought Newport Beach had nasty restrooms but this is worse. All the urinals but one had a bag over them. None of the hand dryers were operational, and it stunk. Some stations have nice restrooms but not this one. If you are traveling by train, use the restroom on the train. read more

Growing up in the area, no matter what, this area will remain "Hill Street". When I was back in high school, I utilized the transit system for a good year when I was in a lot of after school activities. Since then, I have not set foot in this area. I swung by to pick up my train tickets. I was notified that you could either present to the counter or utilize the kiosk. I walked over to the AMTRAK booth and there was a sign "Be back in 20 mins". WHAT?! I didn't have time to wait around, so saw the kiosk and made the attempt to print out my tickets. There was only 1 kiosk and this kiosk was NOT user friendly. ABSURD... After about 10 mins of finally pushing different buttons and trying to decipher what the heck I was doing, I was able to print out my tickets and was on my way. As I walking to my car, I noticed a guy sprawled on the ground lifeless as the cops attempt to arouse him. This is the last stop leaving San Diego going to Orange county. The whole station is pretty big because there is the buses, cabs, the coaster, the sprinter,metro link, Amtrak and Uber. There is always something going on here and because of that parking can be a little tough but there is a nice size parking garage. Oceanside may not be the safest city but there are a lot of police at this transit station so that is a little comforting. Some pros about the station are that there is a Burger King but it's really expensive, it's really close to the beach and it's in down town close to a lot of shops. Unfortunately there are a lot of homeless in the area asking for money but for the most part they don't want any trouble from you or the police. This is a great place to be aware of your surroundings. read more

I love using public transportation, and I use it whenever I can. Especially when I am heading to Orange County with no particular time frame in mind. This is a safe station, as I have left my car here overnight many many times and they do have constant security overseeing the place. During the weekend we were able to purchase a $10 all day pass that allows you to ride the all the Metrolink trains. Use the self serve kiosk that takes cash or credit card. Normally one way is more than that, and you can use it to get anywhere the Metrolink goes too. I this a fantastic deal. Unlike the San Diego Coaster, this is a "dry" train. So no alcohol on board. Either way, this may be the cheapest way to get to downtown LA for two people when you factor in gas/parking/traffic. I'm a fan. We ended up going to LA last time we used the Metrolink, but we did get a ride back from some friends since we were coming back late. I am writing this review from AMTRAK. We are headed north to Union Station on a world class Amtrak two story train at approximately 70 mph. They provide free wifi along with plenty of power sources for your devices. The seats are spacious and recline. All the bathrooms I've gone to in my past experiences have been pleasantly clean and tidy. There's even a little cafe downstairs on each cart where you can get snacks, light meals, and even a bottle of wine. What I love about this Amtrak route is the scenic views. We just went up the coast and saw the ocean for most of the time. This is an excellent mode of transportation for heavy or light traveling. I've also taken this to Santa Barbara and it is very similar. Ocean side views, smooth rides. Sometimes they leave a minute or two before schedule, or up to 10 minutes behind schedule, but they are usually right on time. Everyone should take it at least once even if you have a car. It's a good way to catch up on reading, emails, YELPING, and more. Also one last side note: thank you to all the considerate amtrak guests, I've never been irritated or had someone yapping on a phone or watching a movie without headphones. Thankfully. read more

This was the station I met my friend when I visited him. This station is in the heart of Oceanside. It was clean and seemingly well maintained. There's ample space for parking and a place where you can just drive up and pick someone up or drop someone off. I got here around 10 AM on a Friday. I thought, "I need to see this place at night when I leave tonight before I make my critique." Boy, it was a litttle different at night. Ok. I understand this is a train station. You have to wait outdoors for the train to show up. There is a small place for you to wait indoors, unlike in the Santa Ana or Irvine station, where there's a spacious indoor waiting area for you to wait at. So I waited outside. I'm just glad it was in the high 60's that night. The "benches" outside were roundabout metal seats around pillars. Metal. As is really-cold-when-its-winter metal. Also, the train was 30 mins late, but that's not why it's 3 stars. It's 3 stars because I didn't see anyone you can ask for anything. I wasn't even sure which side of the track I had to wait on. I was able to ask the conductor on the train that showed up as I got there. It was headed to San Diego, I was going home in Santa Ana. He told me they'll annouce it on the PA system. They did. Ahh.. the Metrolink.... it gets you from Oceanside to downtown Los Angeles.... saves you the headache of fighting traffic and gets you there reasonably comfortably in about 2 hours. Positives - very consistent... leaves on time, no hassle self-service machines get you a ticket and you are all set. And you connect to the Redline Metro Subway to get you into downtown LA or even to Hollywood, Long Beach, LAX or Pasadena on the other lines. Negatives - not very many Metrolink ticket machines at this location.... basically one next to like 5 Coaster/Sprinter terminals... very crowded, tough to carry luggage on as there are no overhead or storage areas, you can find some underseat storage, but not very easy. No dining car, no power outlets (like Amtrak), lots of stops along the way (good for those at those stops, bad for the slowness of the ride). Maybe a lot of negatives would equal a lower star rating.... but this is public transit, and you are saving having more cars on the road.... so that alone gives it and yourself an extra star and pat on the back. If your work is paying for it, and the times are convenient, then I suggest taking the Amtrak instead of Metrolink.... it is more expensive, but you get a nicer seat, more luggage storage, dining car, power outlets, and much fewer stops enroute to LA. You also can join a frequent train program and earn awards (Metrolink doesn't have one of these that I know of) read more

At the end of the line for the Orange County Line, there stands one lone stop: Oceanside. Once thought to be dirty and full of potsmokers, it's undergoing a sort of renaissance. Fairs are hosted there, festivals, teenagers happily shopping - and it was an ideal place by the sea for me to get away from the hectic L.A. life. Spending a few hours here was more than beneficial for my mind and body, and the train trip wasn't so bad either! Easy to find ticket booths, very large outdoor station, and friendly ticketmaster. Word to the wise when riding Metrolink and any public transit, watch your bike if you bring it along. A few guys "lost" their bike and almost took mine "by mistake". Since my transplant from OC to San Diego county, I have been using the Metrolink to commute to work from Oceanside to Irvine. It's been almost two years since I have been using the Metrolink and this review is just about the overall of the cleanliness which is horrible. All the of the carts on the Metrolink are dirty from the windows, to the seats and to the aisles. Since I started using the train, I would see some people literally covering the seats and I would ask myself- why? Well after a few months, I understood why. The seats are filthy and disgusting!!!! From grease stains to the headboard to food and questionable unidentified smells/items on the seats and windows. Do they not have a cleaning crew to clean??? Simply by looking that these seats, you would feel like you are going to get infested by fleas or bed bugs.... It seems just unsanitary. The bathrooms are no different. Thankfully my commute ends after the 5th stop from Oside to Irvine--- I try to find the one "clean" seat and/or simply stand and stretch by the bike rack. I think it's time to invest on a seat cover. read more

For my first Metrolink experience, I drove up to Oceanside from Del Mar to catch the train to Anaheim. Since I was nervous about trying to find the location and catch the train, I decided to buy my ticket at the station instead of online. Thankfully, my friend and I happened to arrive at the ticket machine when there wasn't anyone else in around because, as others have mentioned, this is a slow machine. By the time we were both finished making our purchases, there was a line of about five people behind us and by the time the person behind us finished, there were probably ten people waiting. The buttons are slow to respond to touch and my friend had trouble getting the machine to read her card. Since there's only the one machine, the fact that it's so slow is a big issue. I did notice that you can download the Metrolink app and purchase tickets through there so I may try that in the future to bypass these machines. Otherwise, I'd recommend arriving in plenty of time to get your tickets in case the machine is backed up. The station also isn't very clearly marked. Our train was located on the second track but we didn't even know how to get there. Turns out that there's a "hidden" underpass to the left of the station. Luckily, we figured this out in time to catch the train. On the plus side, there's a large, free parking lot and the station is located in the nicer area of Oceanside close to the ocean and downtown. While I didn't check it out, there's a Burger King on the premises and it's nice to have an option to grab food or a drink if you get there early. As for Metrolink, it's a great option to use to get up to the LA/Orange County area and avoid traffic. For a $10 weekend day pass, it's quite a bargain and I plan to use it in the future. The only downside is the time and frequency of the trains. There's only four trains in each direction on the weekend and we had to take the 8:15 AM, which was earlier than we would have liked but the 11:22 AM would have been too late in the day, and the last train leaving Anaheim is 5:21 PM, which is earlier than we would have liked to leave. But still, for the price, I guess it's a decent trade-off. I love that you can use your Metrolink ticket to link to other transportation for free, like the ART in Anaheim to take you to Disneyland. I'll definitely be using this station for future Disneyland trips and plan to take the train up to San Clemente for the day soon too! read more

Wow that was quick. Got a call from a friend having a bbq in the city of orange. So hopped in my car went to the train station did not know a thing. Punched in where I wanted to go. Swiped my credit card and for $11.50 it spit out my ticket. I hopped on train that was heading south and 5 min later we were rolling. Nice smooth ride , not having to deal with holiday traffic. No worries about a DUI and that was well worth the eleven bucks. I like the hassle fee way of travel this has to offer. ohh and the free parking overnight is cool too, so happy to see my car when I got back into town. read more

Confusing. Is this an Amtrak station, or is this a city transit station? We were just trying to get to Petco Park from Oceanside. So, we paid for an all-day pass to the Sprinter, or was it the Coaster? Only to find out that we just needed to get to this station first, to hop on the Coaster. Finally get here and find out that we need another all-day pass on for the Coaster, and the Sprinter pass (just bought a mile or so up the road) was no good here. I also got bad intel that we could use our Coaster or Sprinter passes to hop on Amtrak if we were just going down to San Diego. Wrong. The Amtrak conductors will get you, so don't even try. Long story short. Just try to get yourself here by hitchhiking, cabbing, or pay for a one-way Sprinter to get to the Coaster. Be ready to wait for hours to catch the Coaster (as the Sprinter and Coaster were not in sync when we were here). After we realized, we had to wait for two hours, we found what seemed to be the only food place at this station - Burger King, and holed up in the women's bathroom to charge up the cell phone (shhh, don't tell anyone that's the only place to charge your phone). Once you're here, you will want to now buy that all-day pass (which will be good for the Coaster, Sprinter, and all Trollies in San Diego). FYI: the best place to sit on the Coaster is the upper deck level - outstanding views of the coastline. Another tip... on your way back, be sure to catch the first Coaster at the beginning of the route out of San Diego. This will ensure that you can at least cop a squat, especially on the weekend nights or holidays. Man o man, was the ride back entertaining... total shit show watching the tipsy folks trying to find seats, breaking out into contagious songs, and giving the watches off their wrists to strangers. They know how to party in San Diego - I'm just glad I got to sit back and watch. read more

By now you must be getting our feelings for the opportunity to be able to utilize this great transportation link. The cost was great, as well as the ability not use the freeway system. We went to Old Town San Diego, so close to walk to. The stops along the way seemed easy enough to walk to also. Some of the negative comments are valid, there weren't any agents or employees to help. This is definitely one of the larger and better train stations (in the United States) I've been to. In addition to being a Metrolink terminus station and a major bus hub, it's also the terminus station for the Coaster, the Sprinter light-rail, and a stop on Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner. I've been here three times - once to conveniently go back to Riverside from San Diego on the Metrolink, once to connect to UCSD via a NCTD bus, and once to just enjoy Oceanside. Since this is a larger station, there is a Burger King (which is nice if you need a bite to eat) and a tourist office here. I've only been here during the day so I can't comment on nighttime safety. Best of all, it is within walking distance of downtown Oceanside and its fine beaches! I really like this station for its overall location as well as its many connections. Tip: This is a larger station so to avoid the pitfalls of being lost and missing your train, try to arrive significantly earlier to find the place to buy the ticket and the appropriate platform if you're leaving from this station and don't have much experience with this station. Ah San Diego and military... boys aspiring to be men? 2nd trip down to this station to meet yet another one... but this one is indeed a man and not just a silly boy like the last one. What is it about this station that bids such disdain and horrific customer service? The time I was here before last the machine double charged me. That trip home was taxing on more than just the mind... even more so than it needed to be. Today I was to take the train back to La la land, and I walked to the counter to purchase my ticket. It was an Amtrak ticket counter. The clerk was hunched over and looked miserable. "LA" "Pardon?" "Hi. You work at a ticket counter. I'd like a ticket to LA please." The man looked at me, rolled his eyes, and barked back at me. "ID please." Oceanside is a clean, gorgeous area filled to the brim with military. It's economy thrives from the base. So what is it about this station that makes people so miserable? If it's about getting away, then hop a train to Ghost World already. Do everyone else a favor. Seriously. read more

This is an interesting transportation hub for San Diego. It is a stop for Amtrak, termination point for Metrolink, Coaster, and Sprinter, a transfer point for local bus services, and a Greyhound stop. I visited it during the day for the first time and it did not take me long to notice families going to the beach, garbage divers, lost tourist, and 3 security cops. Something like the good, bad, and ugly for a transportation hub. It is really close to the beach which is nice. Food options are limited to the coffee stand, vending machines, and a Burger King. Bathrooms are clean but looked liked all one has to do at night is take a hose and spray everything down to clean it up for the day. It looks like they can use some renovations. Not a fan of the brick buildings. Everything looks like a bunker with a glass door. read more

This is my means of commuting when I visit my other home from home in Riverside and I don't feel like taking the 15 freeway. They have done some renovations at this station since Ive been their services for the past 3 years. They have the connecting Sprinter line to North County and more ticket machines for the Coaster. Id suggest that they have more Metrolink ticket stations by the tracks. The 2 aren't cutting it especially for those who are trying to catch the train and still need to purchase a ticket. I like how they added the solar car port since Im considering purchasing an EV. The location of the station is awesome right by the ocean and the house they filmed a scene from Top Gun. A few blocks away is the Oceanside Pier and various stores on Mission Blvd. A good place to browse in between trains. read more
