Used Metrolink the other day to travel from Oceanside to Buena Park and found the whole experience very easy and positive. I was able to relax in a comfortable seat, read my book, and didn't have a endure a congested 5 freeway. It only cost $14, so it was well worth the price. If you sit on the left side of the train as you go north bound, you'll be treated so some nice views of the Pacific.

Train Schedule from Oceanside to San Bernardino posted on the photos below. Oceanside Metrolink Train Station is only about 0.6 miles and 13 minute walk to the beach.

If you want a chill ride to the beach! Just take the train here! Really recommend! Bring a bike or not! Bring a friend or not! Either way you're gonna have so much fun without all the stress of getting there! :m

This station is outside and can be sketchy so be careful! Easy to commute to San Diego from here or go up north so it's convenient.

Oceanside Transit Center is huge, so getting off Metrolink, I was trying to figure things out, the layout, how to get to downtown, etc. It's a passage underneath that takes you on the other side so you can reach downtown fast. The stop is in parallel with the ocean so you get to have a scenic view from the train. If you take any trains from this station, it's a good idea to come ahead of time to orientate yourself since this is a major hub: Greyhound, Metrolink, Amtrak, Coaster, Sprinter, etc. There's a big parking lot. I found the machine to get tickets to Metrolink fast, no issue getting my weekend pass (a great idea, $10/person). The, checked my train on a display to see the platform, took the underground passage to Platform 2 for LA. There are no announcements so check that display! The train came earlier, so that was great to wait less outside in the cold, on the platform. It's the end of the line so the train stayed here for a while, otherwise it leaves the station fast, within a minute. So, do your homework, prepare, be ahead of time and you'll be fine! Safe travels!

THE WORST!!!! I got my tickets online and just before arriving to the station I activated them upon arrival many people were waiting for the train after waiting 20 minutes we were notified no trains would be running that day I had paid for 3 tickets and spoke to a customer service representative that said I would need to put in a request online. I put in my request that same day and just got an email response today a month later saying they will not refund me my money. This is the worst service ever. Definitely will not ride this train EVER.

$10 for a weekend day trip to the Southland? Inconceivable! (Yes, I know what that word means...) And yet, that's the cost of a Metrolink ticket from Oceanside to Fullerton, ultimately ending at Union Station in Los Angeles. Sometimes, when I want to save some wear and tear on my car visiting my girlfriend up north for the day, I'll take the Metrolink up. The Oceanside station is a transportation hub, with stations for Greyhound and Amtrak, ticket kiosks for the Metrolink, Coaster, and Sprinter, and cab services waiting curbside. Granted, the station isn't too clean, the Burger King on premises is overpriced (go for the snack machines, they're cheaper), and the line to get your Metrolink ticket gets long - especially as the train leaves on time, so get there early! - but at least there's ample parking, and once you get your ticket, and get on the train, prepare yourself for a smooth trip. No dealing with traffic, a pretty quiet ride, and I can read my Kindle Fire HD during the trip up? Cool!

I have taken 2 stars because the machines that sell tickets are terrible. There are only 2, are slow, the buttons need to be pushed several times in order to work, and when it finally comes the time to pay, sometimes the reader cannot read the card. This scenario happened to 2 of the 4 people ahead of me on the line, and even though I had allocated 12 extra minutes to buy the ticket, I almost missed the train. I had to RUN, carrying all my stuff (laptop, purse and gym bag) and barely made it in time. As I was boarding, they gave the final announcement that the train was about to leave!!! Metrolink needs to add more machines to buy tickets and upgrade those machines to this century! My tip is to get there 20-30 minutes ahead of time to buy tickets. The train itself is similar to the Coaster, clean and comfortable, but does not have free wifi.

What is the one question that comes to mind when you think of trains and the ones that you see from…read morethe movies? There have been so many trains and those trains that have stared in the major motion pictures from the many that stared in the Total Recall and the Superman movies that you see Superman come to save the trains and there are those that are used for business and commercial traffic giving you the most beautiful trip that can be the best vie4ws and the many stops when the train stops through. If you have the answer its one train that services, the many coastal cities and the ones that are a walk to the beach. Yes, the Coaster is one train that has two levels which you can sit on the top level and the bottom level and sit have the best views and when you go to the second level you get the wide view you can eat lunch on board you have to clean up the area where you're sitting at. There is one thing that the Coaster Train doesn't allow is alcoholic drinks of any kind that is a $250.00 fine that you are found on board with open containers. The Coaster train has changed and the cleanup and the remodel it began with no alcohol on board yes, many people thought it was cool to drink on board, but it's not allowed. The remodel of the trains was to change the seats and clean floors yet with the many cars that are still being used they do have some of the older cars that show the age of wear and tear. What is the best day when you have a great doctor's appointment? Yes, the day is called over the hump day to take the 101 buses to the city of Oceanside and the many stops in between to see some of the many locations in the many cities on the way up to Oceanside. There are so many things that you can discover when you take the Coast Bus of the 101 that makes many stops even including the coaster stations along the way. Catching the bus at the UTC Transit center the 101 bus that takes you up through the La Jolla area and the many Campuses of UCSD. The trip is one of the best because with many buses take you to transit center the 101 Bus takes you straight up the coastal highway with the trip the City of Oceanside along the way to the transit and train stations. The train ride that takes you through the many cities on the way back to San Diego with the train ride that takes a little over an hour when you leave the Oceanside Transit Center with the Coaster Train and the Amtrack that share the same tracks the train has to slow when the Amtrack approaches the coaster has to slow and stop and wait for the Amtrack to pass by. The Coaster Train is one of the best rides with the many stations you can also buy tickets for the shorter trips that you may take from San Diego or from the city of Oceanside. Going on the 101 buses from the UTC Transit Center taking that to the many areas and locations along the way you can visit the many areas between the stations. The Coaster Ride from the Oceanside Transit Center is one smooth ride that you can sit back relax and take time to go over work that you may have taken home for many that do take home. The low-cost prices with the many stations that you can transfer over to the many buses take you to the many areas and the Inland cities. As a Yelp Elite Reviewer, the day was one of the best to take the 101 Bus. And have the whole day and still be able to get back to National City certain bus routes do stop at certain times there were many places in the Oceanside and the Carlsbad area that I had never been to before. The many services and buses that service the many areas south of Oceanside and the Encinitas which has so many places to visit and spend the day. Happy Travels to one and all its a great day for a train ride.

Came here a couple of months ago to take the Pacific Surfliner along the coast to Santa Barbara. Station itself like pretty much most similar situations in the U.S. seemed organized, well-runned, and understaffed (as compared to some other places in the world). We tried to get some confirmation on some things around luggage and our pre-purchased ticket from the booth, but there was nobody there to answer our questions (think the guy was working on something else around the platform). A bit of line began to form waiting for someone to show up. So we called the Amtrak number to try to get things sorted out and after waiting for awhile the operator and answered and the conclusion of the discussion was something to the effect of: "we can't really help you in an efficient way here over the phone, but there should be someone at the booth soon given how much time remains." And then kind of what often happens, happened: guy showed up, answered my questions, took care of my problems, took care of everybody on the line, got everything done within like 8-10 minutes, all with about 10 minutes left before the train arrives. Pretty efficient to say the least. The train ride itself was quite good, and I wrote about it elsewhere. Quite amazing and highly recommend. Also very different from what I'm used to in East Asia on several levels.

I purchased a $30 ticket to Los Angeles for an important business meeting. I arrived with my Segway -- a small, compact mobility device I've traveled with over 100 times without issue. Suddenly, I was told it was "prohibited" and I would not be allowed to board the train. No clear explanation. No attempt to problem-solve. Just flat-out refusal. The way it was handled was even worse. The staff raised their voices, treated me like I was doing something criminal, and even threatened to call the police for "trespassing." Trespassing? With a valid paid ticket? Completely unprofessional and humiliating. Meanwhile, I've personally seen electric bikes, scooters, and other devices allowed without issue. So what exactly is the policy? It felt inconsistent at best and borderline discriminatory at worst. Because of this, I missed an important meeting in Los Angeles and it cost me serious money. There was zero empathy, zero customer service, and zero accountability. This was not just inconvenience -- it was a complete failure of professionalism. I will be contacting corporate directly and requesting a formal explanation of their policy and how their staff handled this situation. Extremely disappointed. I will be reconsidering using Amtrak in the future. They have to address this major concern immediately a total disgrace. Amen

Way more relaxing than flying--comfortable seats, no airport chaos, and actual room to breathe. My little one was completely obsessed with the window views--watching the waves roll in and the beaches pass by was such a highlight. We decided on the afternoon train and got to see the sunset along the Pacific coast. Definitely a very worthwhile experience. Overall, the train ride was definitely worth it. The experience at the train station was a little less than ideal (little bit undermanned, which often feels to be the case in the U.S. compared to some other places - higher labor costs of course). The train ride like all train rides is much slower than many parts of the world - no high speed rail (since it wouldn't make sense for the U.S. - low population density and wide spaces - kind like why there's no A380s being flown any more), but if you're riding the train for the experience, that's definitely not a problem (if you're into speed - flying or even driving would probably be faster). In terms of seats - the seats on the trains here are much wider, much more comfortable, and the trains as a whole are pretty empty most of the time compared to elsewhere in the world. The view from the train along the coast was very nice. Several parts of the trip you're right by the beach and the ocean. And of course the sunset was fantastic. Highly recommend if you have the time.

I had anxiety riding the Amtrak because I had never taken it before, but an experienced young student from UCSD gave me the 411 about the train and he helped this old man navigate my first train trip. I started at the Solana Beach train station and took a scenic, relaxing, no stress, and non-traffic congestion ride to Union Station Los Angeles. After my first trip, I'm sold on taking train rides to Los Angeles. The Solana Beach train station is obviously located in Solana Beach just a short walk from the beach, it's across from a plaza where you can grab a bite from Chief's Burgers & Brew, and a stroll to Pizza Port on the west side of the tracks. The main reason I chose the Solana Beach station was that you can park your car in their free public parking lot over the weekend. There is plenty of parking at this station. There are two tracks here at this station. Track 1 is southbound and Track 2 is northbound. If you're traveling to Los Angeles, take the elevator down to the waiting area for Track 2. There aren't that many concrete benches to sit on, so expect to stand while you're waiting for the train. I purchased my Amtrak ticket from the Amtrak website where you can choose to ride Coach for $31 one way to Union Station or Business Class for $46. I highly recommend taking Business Class because for $15 extra, you'll have a higher chance to have a seat, the seats are more comfortable, you have more space, and you get free snacks and drinks. When I got to my business class seats, I noticed that there were many riders who had a snack box. When I went to grab some snacks and drinks, they had run out of the snack box. All they had left at the time were Goldfish crackers, sodas, and water. One of the train staff was able to find extra snack boxes and I was able to grab one. The snack boxes come with pretzels, beef jerky, fruits and nuts, a mini fig bar, and cheese spread. A good snack to hold you down until your last stop. During my trip, I saw beautiful sights, really cool stops, Angel stadium, and I didn't have to worry about navigating through LA traffic. It only took a little over 2 hours to go from Solana Beach to Union Station. I really enjoyed my first Amtrak trip, the comfort of it, the beauty, the free snacks, and the stress-free experience.
