Drew and his team took great care of my needs and respected my situation's complexity and sensitivity, and did everything they promised they would. Read on for the story: Back in 1999 my mother was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, and given about 18 months. On top of all this, she needed a new car she could trust, but also one that would hold value well. She drove a manual trans her whole life and wanted something still fun, so I helped her buy a brand new 1999 Honda Civic Si Coupe. The beautiful electric blue one that everyone loved. She had the dealer install a full leather interior, and a set of good quality floor mats, but no other upsells, not even the rear spoiler those blue Civics always came with. She managed to beat her cancer that time, and again and again over the next 26 years, she fought it off. And the Si was perfect for her. Fun to drive, looked great, and was well taken care of. Garaged, kept spotless, and over those 26 years? Just barely reached 100k miles. Last year, cancer won the battle, and took her from us. The Civic did exactly what it was supposed to, was Honda reliable, was Si sporty, but most importantly, it held its value very well. It was supposed to be an emergency fund in case she ever needed to sell it, but she managed to never crack open that piggy bank. So when she passed, she left the car to me. Here was the issue: I no longer lived nearby. She lived in Kirkland, and I lived in Charlotte, North Carolina. I too loved the car, and wouldn't have mind keeping it. But I knew if I did, I wouldn't be able to resist and I would drive it hard. It would be a blast, but it wouldn't last long in my hands. And it was such a great car. The sports car "grandma only drove on Sundays", come to life in my mom's care. Comparing it to other '99 Si's out there, nearly all of them were heavily modified. Suspension swaps, motor builds, you name it, people did it to that car. But hers? Nearly spotless and insanely low miles. I knew selling it to a Honda enthusiast that maybe, always dreamed of owning a blue Si coupe? Yes that was a much better way to celebrate my mom's legacy with this car. To show it was a hidden gem, almost a barn find kind of car. Of course, others in my family didn't get it. KBB said the car was worth $2600 at best, and $1800 on average! I was crazy to think it was worth more! But I ignored them, and set out to find a dealer who understood. I grew up in the Seattle area, I had several Hondas of my own, including a mildly built LX sedan while in college in the 90s. Honda culture was strong in Seattle, surely there were a few dealers that would be interested. But I was only in town for about a week for my mom's funeral and to look after her affairs with family. I didn't have much time. I called 5 other places before I got a hold of SpeedWorks NW. Two actually laughed a little when I mentioned the car, my #1 target didn't seem to give me the time of day after 3 left messages (that they still never returned). But Drew answered the phone, listened to my story and asked me to bring the car by. It was a Sunday afternoon when I finally had time to. In person he was great, looked over the car thoroughly, as well as the maintenance records I brought with. We discussed several options, including putting some money into a few minor things and running an auction, and we came up with a staged plan. His numbers were fair, and we shook hands and inked a deal. I had to go, and a few days later was no longer in the state. It took a little while to sell (winter is never good to sell a car), but his team found a good buyer at a respectable price. They stayed in touch the entire time, always asked me before taking any action, and worked with the executor of my moms estate for paperwork when needed. Even driving to meet her halfway when it helped. I may never need to call Drew again to sell a car, but if I ever do find the need, I would, without hesitation. Thank you SpeedWorks! Thank you Drew!

Pat was the complete opposite. He was incredibly patient, respectful, and genuinely invested in helping me find the right fit. He pulled up five different luxury cars for me to test-drive--back-to-back--never once rushing me, and did it all with a smile. At one point another customer came in who was looking at a more expensive vehicle, and even then, Pat stayed focused on me and made sure my experience stayed the priority. That meant a lot. Pat is knowledgeable, honest, and someone you can trust in an industry where that can be hard to find. Despite being a loyal customer who has purchased multiple vehicles from him over the years, my recent employment at the dealership has revealed a side of Darryl that goes beyond the "aww shucks," "harmless little old man" routine he employs. The narrative began when I agreed to purchase a 1982 Datsun 200SX for a project car, with a down payment of $500 and a total cost of $2000. Darryl assured me that the car had no major issues and would be up and running soon. In an effort to assist his struggling business, I offered to work for him, not only to work off some of my balance but also out of genuine concern for the chaotic conditions of his shop and office. Despite my efforts to contribute positively and make him money by selling other cars on the lot, Darryl consistently refused to apply the cash payments he gave me for my work towards my outstanding balance, providing vague assurances like "we'll take care of it later" or "don't worry about that yet; we still need to get it running." However, when it came to the small commissions he offered for selling cars to customers, I insisted on at least applying that money to my owed balance, to which he reluctantly obliged. The breaking point occurred when promised repairs to the Datsun were continually delayed, and the car remained inoperable. Despite my attempts to schedule repairs, I was met with vague promises that never materialized. This led me to explore the option of finding a buyer for the Datsun who was better equipped for the project. When I informed Darryl about potential buyers willing to purchase the Datsun for up to $2500, his demeanor shifted. Suddenly, he claimed that the repairs needed were extensive, suggesting I take a different car and transfer the credit towards it. Agreeing to this, I opted to take a 1987 Chrysler LeBaron Coupe at his suggestion, a vehicle I had been helping him find a buyer for even before it was offered to me, as I am an active Chrysler LeBaron enthusiast and owner of a LeBaron convertible. However, the situation took a turn for the worse when, after agreeing to purchase the LeBaron, at his suggestion, Darryl deceitfully claimed he had no temporary license plates for multiple days and later changed his mind about selling me the car altogether. His objection was based on my intention to invest time and money into the car over the next year, enhance its value, restore its paint, and eventually sell it for a better price after I had some time to drive and enjoy it. This abrupt change in attitude revealed his greed and a complete lack of respect for our agreement and working relationship. Furthermore, his disrespectful remarks about African, Indian, and Asian customers or "those people" as he put it, coupled with a derogatory comment about potential "black" buyers for a Cadillac, or "boys coming up here that are just going to try to talk me down" were beyond the pale. This, combined with his manipulative behavior, left me with no choice but to reevaluate my association with University Motorsports. His refusal to take my payments for the Datsun and his attempt to renege on the LeBaron deal indicate a clear desire to monopolize potential profits over everything, even fair treatment of his own employees. He wanted to ensure that any hypothetical profit from these deals would go solely to him even thought every car he sells on his lot is bought for far less than $1000 and sold for $3 to $4,000 or more. This is about my employment and our dealings, I haven't mentioned the hiding of rust under spray paint, the high milage vehicles with leaky engines and transmissions filled with leak stopper products that will fail once you get home and he has your money. Buy with caution and plan for emergency because he believes "what they don't know won't hurt them." In our final conversation, he attempted to shift blame, claiming I hadn't even paid anything for the car and should have forced him to take the payments when he refused. However, it was evident that he never wanted me to pay for the Datsun because he would have had to fix it, and there was a chance I would have made a profit if I sold it and as a new car collector, I would have only sold it after I had a little fun in it and got to experience driving it, filmed and photographed it for my records. In conclusion, Darryl's actions have exposed a level of greed and manipulation that I never anticipated. I worked diligently for the dealership, only to be treated as competition rather than a valued employee. This cautionary tale serves as a warning to anyone considering employment or business dealings with University Motorsports. Exercise extreme caution and be aware of the unethical practices that may tarnish your experience with this establishment.
