We've purchased 2 vehicles from Gene Pankey Motors and have been very satisfied with their service…read more Our last vehicle was a pickup truck purchased with the help of Craig, a true professional. No pressure and very helpful. Upon wanting to take a test drive, it was found that the truck had a faulty battery. Craig apologized and asked if we could come back in a few hours and it would be fixed. That left us time to look at trucks from other lots. When we returned, the truck had a new battery and we did a test drive, loved it and made the purchase. Multiple months later the battery failed under warranty. I couldn't find the battery paperwork and called Craig for a copy. He got back to me the same day and stated he couldn't find it either. He then told me to go to their associated repair shop several blocks away and he would pay for a new replacement battery! Now THAT is customer service and why we've purchased two vehicles from them. It'll be time to buy another vehicle soon and you can bet we'll return to Gene Pankey Motors and the great service that Craig offers! Personally, I've never had such great customer service at any other vehicle sales location. Gene Pankey Motors is THE place to buy quality pre-owned vehicles. I cannot recommend them any higher!

Overall Experience: 2/5 Stars…read more Here's my experience purchasing a used 2018 vehicle from Gene Pankey Motor Company in Tacoma, broken out by team and overall experience. The Car: 4/5 Stars I purchased a used 2018 vehicle that I genuinely love. One thing I appreciated was being able to take the car to a local dealership for a pre-purchase inspection before buying it. That said, there were several quality control issues that should have been caught before delivery: * The battery still had visible battery acid corrosion on it despite being told by the salesperson it would be cleaned prior to pickup. * Shortly after bringing the vehicle home, I noticed a puddle of oil underneath the car because the oil pan drain plug had not been properly tightened after servicing from S7 Automotive. Thankfully, the oil issue was an easy fix that I handled myself, and overall I'm still happy with the vehicle -- but these are details that should not be missed during inspection and prep. Salesperson Experience: 1/5 Stars The salesperson was helpful initially and I appreciated that the test drive process was low pressure. However, the overall experience left a lot to be desired. I told him upfront that I wanted the vehicle inspected at a dealership of my choosing, and he initially told me that was not allowed and that I needed to use a mechanic they preferred. Later, the sales manager clarified that I absolutely could use any mechanic I wanted. There was also a strong emphasis on closing the deal quickly because the salesperson was going on vacation and wanted the commission finalized before leaving. He repeatedly mentioned not talking to other salespeople because it could impact his commission, which felt unnecessary and unprofessional from a customer perspective. Communication also became pushy at times regarding financing paperwork and getting the check delivered. When I arrived to finalize and pick up the vehicle, the interaction felt very transactional with little appreciation or customer care shown. Sales Manager: 2/5 Stars Mixed experience here. The Sales Manager (salesperson's boss) did ultimately clarify that I could take the vehicle to any mechanic I chose for inspection, which I appreciated. However, he also told me my license plates would be mailed out on a specific Monday, and that never happened. I ultimately had to follow up through the business manager to get the issue resolved. Business Manager: 5/5 Stars The business manager was by far the standout part of this experience and honestly saved the deal from becoming a much worse review. When I arrived to finalize paperwork, there had been internal communication breakdowns with the sales team, which caused delays with my credit union paperwork. He stepped in immediately, worked through the issue professionally, and made sure I didn't have to make another trip. He also personally handled getting the battery corrosion cleaned after I mentioned it had not been done as promised. He also mailed out my license plates as that fell through the cracks on the sales manager's end. He was professional, customer-focused, proactive, and easily the strongest representative of the dealership during this process. Service / S7 Automotive: 2/5 Stars I didn't deal with them directly, but based on the work completed on the vehicle prior to sale, I was not impressed. The brakes squeaked after the brake service, and the loose oil drain plug was concerning. Overall, I like the car and there were some positives about the experience, mainly the Business Manager, but the dealership's communication both with customers and internally needs improvement, and the overall experience with the sales team left a lot to be desired.

I had been shopping for literally 3 months. Every day. I scoured the entire nation. I was looking…read moreeverywhere for.the specific make, model, mileage color, options and price. I was so frustrated and had test drove over 20 cars it was always something. Car wasnt as advertised, mileage too high, I was 4 mins too late twice, staff was rude etc. I wasn't in a hurry because I have another vehicle, but I just wanted this particular Lexus. Did my early morning internet search as I'd done every day. There she was. 2017 Lexus IS200t. Black on black. Tinted windows. Perfect mileage and all the options I wanted. In Tacoma too? No way! I jumped on it via email and got Aaron. Nicest guy ever and I was straightforward about what I wanted to pay. He was straightforward that wasn't going to happen. No problem. I'll keep looking. I left the convo with "well if it's still sitting there and you just want it gone, I'll give you X (closer to asking) cash out the door. He explained that probably wouldn't work and thanked me for my time. I never caught a hint of attitude from him. 2 days later as I was just about to cave and get a lesser car, he text me that they would accpety cash offer. I flew down to test drive it. When we got back, he asked me if I was done shopping. YES! Let's do this. Off to financing. Where I met Tiffany and Shelly. Both very friendly and personable. The type that just make you feel good about doing biz with them. Signed all the docs and needed to come back the next day with the balance. Easy process again. Got the keys and I'm driving my baby home on cloud 9. Got maybe 5 miles away and the tire pressure light came on. I was so upset. I didn't think the dealer did anything shady. I know the car had sat and they needed to jump it. So it threw some things off. I immediately called Brayden (owner?) And he told me to make an appt with service and they'd give me a loaner. Which I did. Called John in Service. Explained what was going on. He booked me an appt and when I arrived he gave me world class service. Listened to me and came up with a fast, equitable solution. One day later I have my car back and couldn't be happier. The entire staff treated me exactly as I'd treat a client. Legally, they didn't have to do the little corrections. There was zero hesitation to do the right thing. Brayden said he wanted me.to be satisfied and I am. Thank you Brayden, Aaron, Tiffany, Shelly and John. You are all the best!

Had some back and forth with a deal for the Impreza and they came back with a good deal, $2,000 down plus my Audi at a low interest rate, just asked me to sign the paper. I said can I test drive the car first at least? Sure one sec. Comes back and deal is off the table because of a "glitch in the computer". Sold me on a more expensive car with more miles on it. Made comments on how I'm "picky" because I knew I wanted all wheel drive with under 120,000 miles for around $15,000. Asked me if I want to look at a Malibu which is not at all what I'm looking for. Felt like they were trying to sell me their worst cars. Didn't get what I wanted and now because of my impulse decision I'm stuck with a car that probably won't last through the loan I'm stuck with.

Great all around…read moreexperience at first, they financed me had me in a car that they said had just been serviced and even had the oil changed for me that day across the street. (Pretty cool, right!?) That was the end of the good, once the car left the lot all professionalism or even common courtesy left with it. To make a long story short(and so it will fit into this review) here we go: On August 7th 6 days after buying the car I was driving down the highway and the car seems a little funny so I was going to pull off at the next exit. As I get off the whole car turns off and I luckily coast into a parking lot. I do a quick check under the hood and determine that I will not be able to drive it home. I have it towed home around 3 in the morning. The next morning August 8th I call AJ, the owner and he tells me he will call back around 1230. (This is the last he answered or took my calls) No call or call back. I would receive scattered texts and promises to call but no real solution or faith that one would be reached. I had the car towed to the local Goodyear and they said it is hydro locked and needs a new engine (this can't happen in the six days I have driven the car). I checked the oil and all fluids daily(again only had the car 6 days) because it was a used 2003. I also placed cardboard under it when parked at home to see if there where any leaks. There was some leaks, but nothing that indicated a catastrophic loss like this! And now today August 16, 2018 over a week since the car broke down and only 2 weeks after I bought the car he finally decides to call me(only after changing my review on Facebook and calling everyday for over a week). He tells me that he calls me on "his time and his schedule". No sense of urgency or care. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS PLACE!!
