This is a long overdue review, but one worth leaving. This Lodge was, by far, the most disgusting Navy Lodge imaginable. This review was from a stay in Spring 2017. First, we booked a non-smoking room but were promptly placed in a room that had been smoked in. Upon being moved, we were put in a room with bloody snot all throughout the shower, blood and grime on the sheets, dirt and debris all over the floor, and the most vomit worthy bathroom I've ever used. It was very late at night when we checked in and much of these repulsive findings wouldn't be remedied until morning. I wouldn't recommend this Lodge to my worst enemy. read more

Navy Lodge on Little Creek became our humble abode for the month that we were waiting to move into our new home. Although it isn't luxurious by any means, we had a comfortable and convenient stay. Everyone who works at the desk was super accommodating and friendly. After a few weeks, they knew us decently well and always went out of their way to say hello. Perks: laundry that works super well, continental breakfast with decent options, easy parking, good location, privacy and quiet. PET FRIENDLY! Cons: really inconvenient gym hours, still not cleaning due to "covid" and/or staff shortage. read more

Definitely better off here than NGIS! Having a kitchenette in the room is a life changer. I would hate to always be eating out all the time. For the most part, the staff is extremely nice. I had one odd run in with, one member that told me I could not use the cardio room at two in the afternoon. She seemed proud while having her power trip. I thought it is extremely odd that the room does not open until 4 PM. I see people using it all the time throughout the day, and throughout the week, yet for some reason, when I went in there, I was told that I had to leave because it was too early, 2pm is not early! I don't know if this is just something that is set at this location or if all Navy lodges don't open their cardio room until after 4 PM, which is ridiculous in my opinion, especially when it opens at 6am on the weekends. Other than that one lady, this place is infinitely better than any NGIS. Laundry room machines break down all the time and the breakfast is subpar, but the fact that it exists is a Plus to me. read more

Because we are foolish we planned an overnight trip to Virginia Beach during the height of the summer travel season. Because we were lucky we were able to snag a room at one of the Navy Lodges in the area. While others were stuck with cramped and expensive rooms in chain hotels we had a spacious mini suite with a full kitchen for under $100. The room was nothing special, featuring two beds, a recliner, and a tv. We ended up with a wheelchair accessible room so our bathroom was almost the same size as our bedroom with a low hanging closet and a roll in shower. Our room would have been a cozy and convenient place to spend a few days while exploring the nearby sights. The lodge is located just a few miles from resorts and tourist trap restaurants, but on a small base complete with fast food options and well stocked shoppettes. Breakfast was available, but be prepared for a crowd. We took advantage of the kitchen and coffee maker in our room but did appreciate the mini waffle maker and hot oatmeal. If you are a part of the military community and are planning a visit to Norfolk or Virginia Beach it is absolutely worth your time to check for room availability at the Navy Lodge. read more

There are times when I read my fellow Yelper reviews and all I can think is....what? Were we in the same place? This was one of those rare occasions. The Reverend Dr. Steak and I spent many years living in Tidewater during his military career. We have amazing friends there still and love to go down periodically to enjoy some good laughs, good food and overall slower, more relaxed pace of life. This time with two kids we thought, hey, why not see if one of the Navy Lodges are open? Oceanfront in the off-season is cool but not as inexpensive as you'd think given all the taxes. Lo and behold, we scored a 'family suite' at the Navy Lodge at Little Creek. Cool. As they are on-base military accommodations, there are no taxes, what they quote is what you pay. I admit I read others' reviews and felt a little uncertain that this was a wise choice, I have come to trust the Yelp community and we have had great experiences thanks to this place. We figured, what the hey, if it's as bad as they say we'll just check out early and go find another hotel - not hard in the off-season. I'm glad we went. Because this hotel, it was beautiful. Clean. Comfortable. Surprisingly quiet given its' size. Our family suite was quite nice, with two bedrooms, each flanking the living room/kitchen area, and each bedroom with it's own en suite bath. Yay! No sharing baths, or even walls, with the kids! The kitchen area was well appointed and beautifully done with granite countertops, tile backslash and under-counter lighting. The living room area was not huge, and I think if we were actually PCS'ing it might get a wee bit cramped, however for a long weekend it was quite fine. The Lodge offers a continental breakfast that is exactly the same as every other hotel continental breakfast. Waffle griddles, breads and muffins, oatmeal, boiled eggs, cereal, milk, juice, coffee. Staff were pleasant and accommodating. It is seriously very close to the NEX and Commissary, we just walked across the parking lot to shop. More time to drive over than walk over. That was also great for those things you forget to pack and also snacks for the teens. Guests can use the base pools (outdoor) and the fitness center nearby - neither are on-site. If I were a betting gal, I'd say that this hotel is managed under contract by the same company that manages Holiday Inns - the decor was very familiar in that way. Those wishing to stay must have base privileges, either military or federal government. You can sure bet that the next time we are heading down there, we will book here again. read more

As we wrap up our stay at the hotel, I'd give the staff a 5 star, but the room a 3/4. When we first arrived I really questioned whether the room had been cleaned. There were LIVE crickets everywhere. Not joking; I killed at least 4-5 of them. Throughout our month long stay I also encountered NUMEROUS pincher bugs. I have a 1 & 3 year old who played on the floor. Needless to say, it was gross. They were on the carpets, in the bathroom, and under the sink. The door that goes to the patio has a HUGE gap, so I took Kleenex and stuffed it under the door to keep the cold out... And ironically the number of bugs went down by a lot. Unless I asked, I never got dishwasher soap. I ended up buying my own because I washed dishes 1-2 times a day. I also bought a sponge because washing dishes with a washcloth is arcaic lol. The pack n play provided was good. But unless you know how to use those, you'll have to google for instructions. The continental breakfast was great. The carpets are . They really should be shampooed. The bathrooms were always cleaned and the beds nicely made. I requested my room to be cleaned in the morning because I have small children. They graciously said yes to my request. Be prepared, if you have kids, to watch the same episodes to shows... ON LOOP. That's not a joke. I watched the same episodes of The Loud House, The Casagrandes and EVERY SHOW on Disney, Nickelodeon, and Cartoon Network, work 3 straight weeks! It wasn't till Thanksgiving day that something new same on... Sigh... But we were leaving the next day lol. Overall we had a nice stay. It's not our home so obviously my critique is probably a bit critical. We made do. I had to buy Tupperware dishes and seasonings (salt and pepper). I also wish they had an extra skillet that was a skillet to flip eggs in, but it is what it is. The WiFi was good. Easily accessible. The downside, they don't have a communal computer so you'll have to go somewhere if you need to print anything. read more

Had a great experience for my month long stay in a single room, not so great experience in the 2 bed family suite after the family arrived. If you don't have pets or are allergic to pets then I'd recommend staying somewhere else. This is this first military lodge in 14 years we've stayed at where all the rooms are pet friendly. Unfortunately we didn't know this until we walked in our room. Smelled terrible and the couch was pretty much unusable (smell of wet dog) & 2nd bedroom carpet smelled like urine. We tried many things to get rid of the smell & switch rooms but nothing helped. My wife had some allergic reactions to her skin. When asking the supervisor about why aren't there any non-pet rooms, she just said that all rooms are pet friendly and that she just had a family check out yesterday because their kid was having allergic reactions and shrugged her shoulders. Unfortunately there was nowhere else to stay in the area since peak PCS season and summer rates are crazy everywhere. But I will say that the staff was amazing. Attended some training in good ole Va-Beach over the weekend. Initially I was a little upset that I couldn't get it to the NGIS, but after checking in to "The Lodge", I was happy a pig in mud. I asked for a suite but they didn't have any available, but that's okay, every room has a small kitchen, perfect for a single person on a short weekend. I've stayed at the Navy Lodge near NOB and it was really nice too. Bottom line, the NL is great. A great value and a great place. Thanks for making my stay enjoyable! read more

We usually stay at the lodge in Norfolk but since they were booked we managed to get a room here. I like this lodge way more than Norfolks! I think it's all one floor (it seemed to go on forever). The base this lodge is on is great when traveling with kids as there is a bowling alley/water park/ movie theater/ and playgrounds all over. I gave this lodge 4 stars since the included breakfast was pretty pathetic compared to other lodges. It was a paper bag with a bottle of water and double pack of hard boiled eggs. Also, there was a pretty intricate web at the bottom of our window sill so we could tell they didn't dust in awhile but the rest of the room seemed clean. read more

We stayed here on two different occasions during this holiday season. The rooms themselves are nice. They include a kitchenette which was a pleasant surprise. The workers at the front desk were always nice and helpful. We enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it to anyone. I knocked 1 star for just a few small things that impacted our stay. They offer breakfast downstairs from 6-9 am. I went downstair to enjoy breakfast one morning at 8:35 and there wasn't anything available. The woman in charge was not refilling things that were out, and even started cleaning it up already. When I walked back to my room I noticed her in the work room texting on her phone. During the 2nd stay, our shower did not work. It was late, we were tired, and cold. BUT, when we called the front desk and asked for a new room they worked hard to put us in a room that was close by so we did not have to carry our things far. Great customer service! In our new room the next morning we were preparing to make breakfast and we noticed there was not a pan in the room. (our previous room had 1 pan and 3 pots) We asked the front desk if it was custom to have a pan and they informed us that it was. They grabbed a pan from another room and gave it to us to use. Again, great customer service. One last thing-when housekeeping would take our towels and wash cloths, we were not always given the same amount back to use. No big deal, was just annoying. read more

I agree with some of the other reviewers in that previous reviews are most likely before the remodel. The Navy Lodge was remodeled a couple of years ago, so things are different. For about $70 you can't complain. You have great access to the Navy Exchange and Commissary and you get free breakfast. The staff here was great and overall a pleasant stay. Definitely like that it is close to everything in Hampton Roads you want to see. Only issue I had was that the pillows were soft, but everyone has their preference. read more

They now have 2 bedroom family suites with all new furnishings, large living room area with pull out couch, full kitchen with everything need for hotel living. We got a room on the top floor in a great location. It was quiet and clean. Maids came daily and would change sheets if you asked. Hot breakfast served daily. My kids loved the waffles. The laundry room on our floor was convenient and this hotel is within walking distance of the NEX! They accept pets. They have DVD's to check out at the front desk. Great customer service. Stayed here for 2 weeks during a course at JEBLC. $60/night for a 2 Queen + kitchenette with a full-size fridge. I don't believe they have suites here. Walls are kinda thin (as typical), and the individual AC/heater unit worked well. Included free internet (albeit excruciatingly slow unless you pay to upgrade). Free coffee in the lobby (and I think a crude b-fast though I skipped it), on-site coin laundry, some DVDs you can rent from the front desk. Walking distance to the NEX, commissary and food court. If you can swing a car, it will vastly improve the quality of life since there is some pretty good food and night life in the area. I can't compare to the INN since I've never stay there. I'd say this place is on-par for directed lodging/TLF. Front office was attentive, no surprise charges or fees. read more

First time staying at a military hotel/lodge due to PCS. During my two night stay it seemed quiet, which is a good thing. Would not worry about incidents. Walking distance to the NEX is a plus. Eateries galore, to include things to do, within driving distance. Front desk clerk was polite at check-in; at check-out, not so much (I'll get to that later). Free internet connection worked well, at least for me. One visitor I met mentioned that he had issues connecting. He was loud enough for one of the employees to hear and she did not say anything. Room was clean and neat. Fresh towels and what not. Hot water was good to go. A/C unit worked well, too. Not bad for $62 a night. Need a safe place for an overnight stay, it works I suppose. But, it's nothing super fancy. Parking could use another look. Too many "30 minute" parking spots reserved for those checking in. Noticed base police swing by a time or two and didn't enforce. I saw a couple vehicle parked there for over a day. I know I mentioned my room being clean. My last night here I noticed ants crawling around on the top of the the nightstand. Didn't see any marching along on the floor. So, I picked up the alarm clock and there they were hiding! Not sure what these ants were up to, but I was not happy seeing them running around on the nightstand in my room! Being it was late at night, and I was exhausted, I decided to take care of them myself and report upon check-out. Upon my check-out, I brought the ant issue up to the clerk. Didn't seem like she cared. Basically, told me she would place a trouble ticket to get it taken care of. Not much of an apology, either. Should've received a discount for this issue. read more

Rooms get the job done if you need a place to sleep but furnishings and structure are outdated and old. Would only stay here if required due to travel on orders, otherwise recommend the Navy Lodge down the street. Facility is not the cleanest and the carpeting in the hallways stink and there are big dead roaches in the hallways. Pillows are also super soft so if you need a firm pillow to sleep recommend bringing your own. That all said, it does appear renovations have been attempted including upgrades to various features and amenities (older flat screen TVs) but it's not good enough to be a contemporary hotel, just a fixed up 1960/70s style barracks. Also, the last time I stayed here I was overcharged a day on my gov credit card which was a totally separate charge and didn't show on my receipt. It was weird because it was a charge for one day in the middle of my week stay and charged separately. I called the Gateway Inn and they had no record of the extra charge and were no help at all so had to dispute through the gov credit card company and it was taken off. Cute place, but poorly ran. Checked in on our scheduled day at 1500 and they didn't have our suit ready until 1700. Housekeeping never came in during our week stay to clean. They would knock around 1700 and asked what we needed. I asked front desk to have them come earlier in the day and not when our little ones were napping and we just kept getting tags on our door saying we had our DND sign out. They said their policy is sheet change every 3 days. Been there a whole week and couldn't even get someone to come in while we were gone, let alone a sheet change! Oh and don't go down for breakfast 3 minutes before 0900, that lady will let you know you have '3 minutes left and what you see is what you get'. read more

This place is great if you are a military person or have affiliation with the military. $75 a night for a 2 bed suite with a kitchenette and the piece of mind that you are on a military installation. Plus no tax. How can you beat that anywhere in this area?? Answer... You can't! Commissary and Exchange are right next door and the offer complimentary wifi. I'm giving this a three because I have stayed here two times, and both are extended stays. The first time I would rate it a 5 the front desk staff is good. They have some weird rule where you can't have a room key for more then 7 days which is weird when you are here for 60. I could see a reflagged after 30 but 7. Some of the staffers bent the rules which was nice. First room was nice had a kitchen area with a couch and a bed great for unwinding and naps, or instead of lounging in bed all the time it was a nice change up. My maid was awesome! Very respectful and told which days she was going to change my sheets and even if I was didn't need anything done she told me she was changing my sheets which was nice. In the halls when I would see her she was always nice and would ask how I was doing. Second room not as nice as the first but still good. The only downside to this one is the room service. I don't have the same maid even though I see her in the hall. Wish she was on my side this time. I'm not overly needy when it comes to my room if it needs it I make sure to not put the do not disturb sign. But when it's nice to have a sheet change and bathroom cleaned and you are out of the room except to sleep and both days the room wasn't cleaned was very sad. My room was serviced today after asking what was up and still it wasn't cleaned they only changed my sheets and took the trash out. They didn't sweep the floor or clean the bathroom. So for the hit or miss room service I would say it's 3 stars out of 5. Because being taken care of is definitely what should happen even when your here for such an extended stay. read more
