While the tourists and the young kids go to the many non traditional, poor quality tapas restaurants that litter central Madrid, do yourself a favor and visit this place. I was there tonight while Real Madrid vs. Munich was on the television and the atmosphere was as real as what's left of this city center.
The waiters 60-70 years old and the patrons are working class, unemployed, homeless with a few begged Euro, and the old style well dressed middle class who still call this home surrounded by the Airbnb's and over abundance of hotels that are trashing all the popular cultures of the world due to opportunity ... and greed. No greed in this establishment when you get your bill.
You order a beer or wine, you get a complimentary tapas to enjoy with it. Order another and repeat. You want a cooked meal or a different type of tapa, there is a menu to order separately at an additional cost.
The food might not be what your used to ... but go with it. It is as real Espana as it gets. I was there from 7pm to 10pm and drank beers to my hearts content (6-7?) and couldn't finish my last complimentary tapas serving. My bill was 18 Euro and I left 3 euro for a tip and received a grin. This included a special menu order of croquettes with ham for 8 Euro. How is this possible? Amazing.
