I love this beach grill for many reasons BUT first if you are the manager and reading this - reconsider your choice of hostess ! Another review written just before me also noted the same !! We got there and it was clear it was busy - she glared at us and told us it was at least an hour wait - no big deal we planned to enjoy the pool - but she was clearly horrified when we agreed to that and appeared to not want to deal with customers by rolling her eyes as she added us to the list - and it was no where near and hour - we were sat within 20 minutes !! That aside, we had a stunning ocean view table and a great time! Jerry was the bar tender tonight and as always he is the absolute BEST!! Always great to see him and he makes the best sangria and tropical itch!! We began with the coconut shrimp which was delicious then I had the catch of the day which was Ono which was delicious! Naupaka Beach Grill was our first real meal after arriving Kona... we had dinner there that evening. We also had lunch at the restaurant and poolside a couple of times throughout our stay. As others have said, the poolside service can be a bit spotty, but all in all we had some good meals here. Our friends have been to the Westin and to this restaurant in years past and it sounds like the poke bowl has definitely gone down hill a bit. We got that our first night and were underwhelmed by its size and few ingredients so stayed away from ordering that again during our stay. I enjoyed a hearts of palm salad with shrimp, a cobb salad, and a BLT on focaccia with sweet potato fries as well as some delicious drinks, and my kids enjoyed chicken fingers, the kids caesar salad, and hot dog as well as some virgin drinks and smoothies. Ambiance is comfortable and casual being that it's a poolside restaurant, but don't get too comfortable like my husband did one afternoon after a few beers... he put his feet up on the table and was quickly asked to take them down! Food is "good enough" beachside dishes but pretty dang expensive for the quality but you're at a resort what are you gonna do? The real issue is the Mai Tais we ordered. It was premixed orange juice and rum. It was incredibly expensive ($22). One of the hotel bar tenders told me they were supposed to stop doing the premix at this point which is a much better Mai Tai but that's definitely not what we got. The Mai Tai at the upstairs bar below the front desk is much much better. This place is a good option of you aren't wanting to leave the property, but it depends on what you order. My daughter liked her smash burger and the truffle fries were great. We usually love sweet potato fries and these were good but not amazing. I ordered the regular burger and when it came it had tomato, lots of onions, cheese and a patty. No sauces or anything! It was really dry and flavorless so I used some of my husband's pickles from his sandwich on my burger for a little flavor, but it was pretty disappointing! My husband liked his chicken sandwich okay. And the Caesar salad was good. We also ordered the nachos and they weren't good at all! It tasted like refried beans from a can, and they used canned cheese sauce on the top with tons of canned jalapeños. They did have a tiny dish of salsa on the side but they tasted like something you ordered from a cheap fast food place. They couldn't have even used real cheese on the nachos?? I love the Westin and always recommend it to family and friends however the pool bar - do not recommend. The service has been rude on several occasions, I feel bad even mentioning but at this point it has been on 3 different occasions- bartenders and specifically the hostess , a young woman that should really reconsider having a service job. We arrived at our hotel just in time for dinner. The concierge had made us a reservation at this casual restaurant at the Westin, but we would probably be fine without them. It was probably my least favorite meal of everywhere we ate while on the big island, but it was still good and a great way to take in the beauty of the resort after first arriving. We started with the poke stack (very good) and a hummus plate. I didn't eat any of the hummus, but my kids seemed to enjoy. For my dinner i went with the fresh catch (mahi mahi) sandwich, which was pretty good. We skipped dessert because we had a lot of desserts in Maui, but did order a bunch of dessert like drinks (pina coladas, lava flows) while at the pool for the rest of our stays. For lunch we usually went to the coffee bar on 7 because found it hard to get pool service at the hotel and didn't want to sit down at a restaurant during the day. Merida, the other Westin restaurant, was really great so I'd recommend that between the 2 but this was a solid casual option at the resort. read more

Every time we come here, my family and I always seem to find something for everyone. My Mom and I are pescatarian, so being in Hawai'i they always have a great assortment for us! I also have stupid food allergies and sadly I'm allergic to monosodium glutamate (MSG) and luckily for me, they spend the extra money and marinate with Tamari sauce! Yayyyyyy! And we heard our favorite server from Mauna Lani moved to Naupaka so we had to check it out. Rhell was attentive and is entertaining as usual. And he made the recommendations that inspired tonight's dinner. Aside from the beautiful sunset and sounds of the waves, the meal was absolutely amazing. Calamari was crispy and plentiful. I loved the light airy breading and it wasn't oily. The fall off the bone tender ribs were so delicious. Classic bbq ribs tray with pineapple coleslaw. A nice touch I must say. But my favorite part of dinner was the pan roasted chicken. The broccolini and carrots were well roasted and seasoned. The buttery soft whipped potatoes were delicious clouds. But the chicken and the au jus were sensational. I wasn't even that hungry, but the portions were nice. And they brought out a complimentary dessert and song for my special day. I feel so special! We were staying for a week and having to choose between an impossible burger and a hummus plate every day for lunch and sometimes dinner gets very old very quickly. Simple substitutions could make the menu more vegetarian friendly like swapping the broth on the noodle bowl to be a vegetable broth. Honestly this is a great place to grab lunch or dinner if you are hanging at Hapuna beach or staying at the Westin resort. My wife & I had lunch here once & an early dinner once during our stay in between hanging at the beach & pools. Lookout for the drink specials otherwise it's expensive to have a beer or two or a cocktail with your food. Favorite thing I had here was the loaded chicken fries that are a special item. They had pickles, queso, cheese, ranch drizzle, and good fried chicken bites on them. Plenty but enough to share. Wife had an Asian salad here that was phenomenal. Hubby had the fresh catch of the day which was Ono, steamed so it was moist and flavorful. It must've been good, he ate everything on his plate. I had the pork ribs which was fall off the bone tender and moist. This has a bold, finger-licking- good barbecue sauce. Tangy and not spicy, very flavorful. The Parmesan fries with garlic aioli was also very good, but the pineapple cole slaw was almost tasteless compared with the other flavors on the tray. We had a great dessert, chocolate covered vanilla and strawberry ice cream with strawberries it was easier to eat once the chocolate thawed out a bit. This was good because it was not too sweet. We stayed at the Westin and had dinner at this grill twice. The first night I tried the fish tacos and my spouse ordered the pork banh mi. I loved the fish tacos. My wife enjoyed her sandwich but did not think it really resembled a banh mi. So if you've never had a banh mi you'll be fine but if you have, be forewarned it isn't a banh mi in the traditional sense. I had the hibiscus cooler, it was very refreshing with a touch of jalapeño. My wife enjoyed her banana smoothie. We finished off with the lilikoi cheesecake. I loved the tartness of the cheesecake but the crust was a little too crunchy for my taste. Being Californians we are very good judges of tacos lol and while the tortilla was ok, the chicken was dry and bland. The meatball sandwich had also dried meatballs. The loco moco on the other hand was flavorful and tender, I enjoyed the patty, while the gravy was very generic and other than the mushrooms, there wasn't really remarkable things about it. Staff was friendly, there was live music and since was Monday, the pool was almost empty and wasn't loud at all. One of the best food experiences at a pool I've ever had. My boyfriend & I ordered 2 lava flows to drink, which was one of the best lava flows I've ever tasted. For food, we shared a patty melt with sweet potato fries & a club sandwich with regular fries. The patty melt was ok, however the club sandwich was probably the best club sandwich I've ever had. For the club sandwich, they used soft focaccia bread, which made a huge delicious difference. Our pool server was very nice & checked up on us very often.
