We stayed at Idyllnook Lodge, booked through IdyllwildVacationCabins, from 1/16/2026-1/19/2026, and…read moreunfortunately had a very disappointing experience. Upon arrival, we noticed a poison mouse trap inside the cabin. We immediately contacted IdyllwildVacationCabins and were told that mice had been reported back in July 2025, the issue had been treated, and the trap was only a preventative measure. We were also told relocation was available if needed. Based on these assurances, we believed there was no active infestation and decided to stay. The following evening, we discovered mouse/rat droppings inside a kitchen drawer and in a dresser where our infant's clothing had already been placed. After inspecting further, we found extensive droppings throughout the cabin, including closet floors, under the bed, and in multiple upstairs closets. This clearly indicated an active or unresolved rodent issue. Regardless of whether the droppings were new or old, their presence made the cabin unsafe and uninhabitable--especially given the health risks associated with rodent droppings, including potential exposure to hantavirus. We contacted IdyllwildVacationCabins again and were offered relocation, but by that point our belongings had already been unpacked and potentially contaminated. Under the circumstances, we felt the only reasonable option was to leave the property entirely.

The furniture is old and some of it broken, lightbulbs were burnt out, the cabin was not cleaned and full of dust, bathroom door which got stuck closed, and window shades and windows were broken. The cabin looks as if the owner has not cared for it in a long time. There was no welcome book and we had to hunt to find the WiFi password, as well as clean towels. This cabin has the potential to be a lovely vacation spot but it is not so at this time.

The property itself was gorgeous, we stayed in the ember lodge and it was just stunning!! We had a full bath, living room, separate bedroom and a huge private deck. I really loved the decor and all of the books! Everything was very clean and cozy. There is a little creek and hiking trail along the property as well, it was really cute we saw wild apples and blackberries and the biggest squirrels we've ever seen! Super quiet, affordable and fantastic suite. We can't wait to stay again!

4.5 Stars! (May / Warm 50º - 78ºF)…read moreWhen we arrived, previous guests had a very smokey fire in the room. It was a little difficult for me to get any sleep the first night because of the smoke smell. But airing it out the next day (and a 10mile hike) helped! AS IDYLLWILD STARTER SPOT = 5-stars! If this is your first time to Idyllwild, this is great. Easy to find. Easy to walk to town. Quiet and away from town center. Budget between "cabin" and "hotel" FIRST TIME to Idyllwild. The address is on Hwy 243. Unlike other major roads, it is empty after 8pm - so don't worry that it might be noisy. It's not. On the plus side: If you've never been here, it's very easy to find. But also away from the center of town (but not so far that you can't walk to it) INNKEEPERS & STAFF The innkeepers who greeted us when we arrived and checked us out were very helpful and extremely friendly. There is a small shop for gifts in the lobby area. Some booking services might not have all of the right information. Call the front desk with questions. They are super helpful. PARKING Easy to find and plenty of parking out front ROOMS (Evergreen) We stayed in one of the original (older) rooms. It has been upgraded with new plumbing and a jacuzzi style jet tub alongside the shower. The room is spacious and comfortably fits all of your gear on one side of the room away from the bed. A big hearth in front of the fireplace is perfect for a make-shift table. The drawback to this particular room (Evergreen) is that you are under the stairs to the rooms above. Not terrible, as most people were in by 9pm. But you will hear them creaking up and down when they leave their rooms. You can't hear them in the rooms. There are other rooms that are not connected or under other people's rooms. Clean sheets Clean towels Nice shower (saloon doors on old shower) Separate toilet/tub room. Pillows are a little flat HVAC works well (workers came in to check it while we were there) Fun/Silly books and board games in the room. - Didn't use fireplace - Didn't use television - Just needed a spot to sleep and shower before the next day's adventure. This was perfect +. COMMON SPACES INSIDE; There is a fantastic common space in the main house/lobby. Large long tables for where they used to serve breakfast. (There is no breakfast service: hotel style coffee en suite) The long tables are great for spreading out maps, games, whatever needs a bunch of space outside of your room. OUTSIDE; 1. Back Deck: There's a warm, sunny deck, protected from wind and hwy sounds. Everyone's room opens onto this space. 2. Gazebo: A small 4 seat gazebo is in the southern garden area. With views of the creek area, this is a great spot to take a nice afternoon rest stop. Nice place to sit to read, or sketch, or just close your eyes for a minute and say "I'm NOT asleep". GETTING AROUND: TO TOWN: The inn is a perfect distance from town. About 7-10 minutes to walk, there's a path that leads from the back door of the inn to the edge of town. STRAWBERRY CREEK is what it's all about. Walking this path back and forth to town is FANTASTIC. The path to town might be THE MAIN SELLING POINT OF THE INN. The stairs down to the creek path are a little severe, but the path is VERY easy to walk. Driving to town feels silly = 2 minutes. IDYLLWILD PARK (& Campground) Perimeter Hike (4 miles). Strawberry Creek Inn is a short (2-4 block walk) to the campground. The perimeter trail isn't especially technical (although a little steep in some spots), but it's basically just across the street from the inn.

Go here every time you visit idyllwild! Not only is it a REAL small business run by real people,…read morebut it is cozy, always clean, and so accessible. Raj is the owner and truthfully has always given us such amazing service and conversation. The people who work at the front desk besides him are always personable and helpful. If you're looking for a super safe, clean, and affordable place in idyllwild stay here! I have been coming here for years and can vouch that rain, snow, or hot sun, there is incredible accommodations and people waiting to serve you. I think sometimes people forget small businesses do their best to give the absolute most they can with the budget and employees they have and I think the bunkhouse has only improved since I started staying here on weekend trips for the last few years. So I have always been gracious with the times I have had low shampoo in the complimentary soaps in the shower or an appliance being spotty. I know they are doing their best and they try to resolve it as quickly as they can when I've brought it up to them. I love the cabin style rooms, and have stayed in the different versions depending on how many people come with me. In the winter, you feel like you're in your own little cabin with the old wall heater watching the snow drip off the roof from the front room window. The kitchenette is always clean and generous with Teas and coffees, a mini fridge, plates, cutlery, etc. In the summer and spring you can watch birds make their nests in the trellis vines near the roof posts. It is whimsical for my fellow whimsy people, and secluded despite it being all one long building, if you're looking for a quiet getaway. I've had great conversations with people outside their rooms where there are small chairs and tables for getting some fresh morning air and listening to the music nature has to offer. It gives you the community and warm welcomes that they advertise, and whether your room neighbors are just hikers passing through or returning visitors, I've always had such a fun time chatting when we're sitting outside enjoying the fresh mountain air. This vibe is to die for, I ask anyone looking for somewhere to stay to look not further than here. Support small businesses and stay here for your next night away or weekend trip. I love this place with my whole heart and soul! If I could give this place a million stars I would. Go Bunkhouse !

I recently stayed at the Idyllwild Bunkhouse and unfortunately the room did not match what was…read moreadvertised. The location and staff are truly superb -- friendly, welcoming, and in a great spot close to town -- but the room itself needs serious attention. The toilet was dirty when I arrived, and there was no bath mat. There were no proper utensils or paper products, aside from toilet paper. The floors were dirty and there was black hair everywhere, which was disappointing and made the room feel unclean. The listing shows a Jacuzzi tub, but it didn't work at all, and there wasn't even a plug to fill the tub. This was one of the main reasons I booked the room, so it was a letdown. I was also looking forward to the breakfast scones that the property advertises. Instead, we received dry scones, apple juice. One more thing future guests should know: the toilet is positioned only about half a foot from the sink, so you literally have to sit sideways. It's uncomfortable and should be mentioned in the room description. This hotel seems to cater mainly to Pacific Crest Trail hikers in the summer, which is fine, but the rooms should be advertised accurately so guests know what to expect. The staff and location are excellent, but the rooms need better cleaning, maintenance, and honest descriptions
