We checked out the Bluebird and similar lodges before heading out to Idyllwild. We decided to be ambitious and camp out with the rest of our family instead. At nightfall we quickly realized that was not a good idea with our infant and fur baby. Bluebird answered promptly, assisted us past operating hours and provided swift and kind service. Took the boy to get some fresh air and drove up the mountain before going back to the hospital. This is my second choice of places to stay in Idyllwild. it was sort of last minute trip, so like the boy says you get what you get and so don't get upset. It is Close to the main downtown area of Idyllwild. Last time I was here we had a bigger cottage and it was detached. This cottage is quant but not quiet. You can hear everything from next door. Steps, bathroom, door opening and closing. I am such light sleeper I need ear plugs and a sound machine to sleep. Maybe a heavy sleeper will be fine with the noise next door. I dislike that they have carpet but it looks clean enough. The boy has a small twin bed in the corner with a pole on top to hang our clothes not much space but we made it work. Love that we have a larger refrigerator, not big but double the size of a mini fridge. We also have a coffee maker and microwave. I got the king bed with memory foam mattress which was comfortable. Oh and I did appreciate all the outlets for our many "gadgets" we needed to charge. If I come back to stay here visit I will try and stay in owl, Eagle, or meadowlark. A hiking we will go early morning. Oh boy! Let me tell you guys!!! I was pleasantly surprised by this place!! I wanted to get away for the day + night...staycation if you will ;) soo very last min I was looking for a place to stay up here in Idyllwild :) its Easter week and has been extremely busy in town so this was the first place that popped up with rooms available. And I jumped on it, room was affordable and I haven't given this place a go yet. Trying almost all other places in town. We are limited up here for sure but this place was rustic cabin feel, clean, quiet and serene. Just what I needed. Lady at front desk was extremely nice and its kinda tucked away...even though its by the highway. Only suggestion I have would be kleenex would be nice! But luckily I had some in my car bc it's spring time, allergy season. There was a nice heater in bathroom and its dog friendly! With only a 10 dollar for up to 3 dogs I believe. Its also walking distance to town. Couldn't recommend enough. Thank you read more

I stayed in the crested jay for one night because it was the cheapest and best lookin cottage for my buck (In the pictures online). Upon entering, the cottage had a funky smell. The room looked dusty and had old spiderwebs in many areas. The showers had gout and what looked like black mold, I am no expert on that but just an observation. On the bright side the hot water works great. The bathroom has 2 or 3 suspicious looking holes aimed directly at the toilet and the shower. I forgot to take pictures of those. I tried shining a light but couldn't see anything in the holes but it just made us uncomfortable. The bathroom cabinets had a dead spider just chilling in there. I wanted to pour some drinks and chips in the complimentary glasses and bowls they left us, they looked dirty and dusty with fingerprints on them. Luckily they left us dish soap and a new looking sponge in the bathroom for us to wash them ourselves. The couch had a dusty random t-shirt someone forgot behind it. While in bed I noticed some holes in the walls pointed directly at the bed, this made us very uncomfortable, making it difficult for us to sleep throughout the night. I tried looking in the holes and couldn't see anything with my naked eye and phone flashlight. I think this place needs better house keeping and maintenance. Throughout the stay I just felt dirty, and I get a feeling that the bedsheets weren't clean after everything we've seen. At least they left us complimentary string cheese and coffee. They also have a selection of dvds/movies you can borrow or rent in their office. The fireplace was pretty cool. read more

VERY DISAPPOINTED IN OUR STAY AT BLUEBIRD COTTAGE INN ( We stayed in the OWL COTTAGE) on July 1st and 2nd. The moment we opened the door it had a terrible smell. The dining room table was still sticky. Yucky carpet with stains, and one electrical box was hanging out of the wall in the living room. The bath tub grout was hanging into the tub!!!! The kitchen cabinets were filthy and covered with dust inside. The unit has one small wall air conditioner unit for the entire house! The only thing new in the unit were the windows and a big screen Tv. Would Î recommend this place .....HELL NO!!!!!! I felt DIRTY the whole stay. And we paid $200 per night. Extremely kind and helpful. Needed an inexpensive place to stay in a bind. They were so accommodating that it made a tough situation into a relaxing getaway. The air conditioner worked excellent, loved the room and options. The women here treated you like family and took time to explain things. Loved the room too. So beautiful up here. The GPS actually did get me all the way here! We chose a deck room instead of a cabin. All priced excellent. Had looked at airbnb first but $200 was ridiculous. So happy I found them here instead. Friendly & easy check in process. Upon opening the door to the room, it smelled of a cleaning product, an unpleasant odor that never went away. It appeared clean, although some things felt sticky. The shower was extremely small, the bathroom heater didn't work & the bathroom door wouldn't stay shut. However, the hot water was quick to get hot. I needed to work on my laptop, but the wifi kept cutting out. The place was extremely peaceful except for the neighbors. The walls are super thin. I could hear the TV, conversations, yawning, plates moving, kid crying, dog whining, doors shutting...thankfully it was quiet after 10pm. Overall, the stay was ok. Nothing fancy. No soft sheets and towels, or high-end toiletries. Packets of dried cream for the OK coffee. Old dark green carpet in our room (and a strange hum that we couldn't place). BUT...also well-situated, well-priced, and weirdly empty when we were there recently. So also quiet except for the birds singing in the trees. We've been before, we might go again -- since we don't spend much time in our room anyway. Would be fun to stay in a cabin. read more

In love super cute cottage, covert clean and tidy. They had pots and pans and dish soap and sponge for dishes. Plenty of towels and super fluffy pillows were available for us. This was my first time visiting Idyllwild and I will be back I called the office a few times because I had a lot of questions (so sorry staff) but Tony was very polite and helpful. Always a great stay. The rooms are cozy and clean enough. The bed was comfortable, plenty of towels in the bathroom. There's a microwave and fridge/freezer which is always handy. This is probably the cheapest place to stay in Idyllwild. The time I stayed there, my experience was awful. The people in the room next to me had their TV on loud until late at night. I asked them to turn it down, and they refused. I called the management, and they weren't willing to deal with it. I ended up leaving at 2 am and sleeping in my car down the road. read more

These cottages are inexpensive for a reason. The cottages are in a state of disrepair. The roof on the owl looks as if it needs immediate repair. The couch was so worn i sank in it so deep I had a horrible time getting out. There are hand prints on all of the molding around the doors. Cob webs above the shower head. There were nails sticking out of the bedroom door area. The bed was not suitable to be slept in and my wife refused to sleep there. I was scheduled to stay two nights but couldn't stomach it so we left after the first night. We looked at the hawk and the dove as well and they were small and claustrophobic. I could say more but it would be more of the same disaster that everything there had in common. We've stayed in Idyllwild previously. It's not like we were first timers and had visions of grandeur. This place was a wreck. I recommend looking for other accommodations. read more

This place is just darn cute. We had booked a cabin here during Memorial weekend and I would have to say that I am extremely satisfied. A lot of other cabins we were looking at we either were booked or just a bit too pricey. We were looking for something simple.. a place to sleep with a shower- lo and behold we found the Blue Bird Cottage Inn. There were all kinds of cabins to choose from and communication between us and their staff was great- quick and easy. We arrived Saturday morning and although we weren't able to check in yet- the front desk staff was kind enough to take our perishables and store them for us as we went on our hike. Great staff. The cabin itself was simple, clean, and very cozy. Our rate was $75/night and we had a huge bed (cal king) and another twin bed (I call it the dog house- when you get mad at someone and they sleep there.. haha). It had a mini fridge, a microwave, coffee machine, flat screen television with dvd player, plates, cups, utensils and a propane grill right on our porch. Awesome! There's plenty of parking spaces and it's not far from town. I am very happy with our stay and would definitely stay here again. read more

Dig it! This place is so awesome! I felt like I never wanted to leave......at least for a little while. Our cabin was very clean, fully equipped kitchen, doggy friendly and they even provide comp dog blankets. The interior is dated(like avocado 70s brady bunch oven) and country cabin decorations, but it has character and charm so you are comfortable. But if you are hoping for or expecting Hilton High end rooms, ain't gonna happen here, or anywhere in Idyllwild. Walking distance to town and all the stores and restaurants. The guy at the office is super friendly and helpful. Have fun, enjoy your stay. p.s. only "issue" thin walls, you can hear your neighbors. :( took 1 star off for that. read more

5 stars all around! The price is great. Staff is helpful. Cabins are cozy. The location is good and close by shops. I wanted a romantic getaway with my Honey. I booked the STARLING and arrived after 11pm. We liked the little, cozy, romantic cabin until we had some plumbing issues. We had to wait till morning to address them with the staff but they upgraded us and apologized for the issue. Thank you AMY because we stayed in the FALCON and it was even better! Small kitchen, little living room, 2 person jetted jacuzzi and king size bed by the window made us not want to leave. I do not live with my boyfriend so this was like a small home for us. It let us connect more and enjoy the simples pleasures of a cabin, nature and time together. We are definitely coming back here and I have recommended this place to family and friends. read more

Sorry to say this was a major disappointment. Beds in the room need immediate replacement as does the carpet. Bathroom sink was stopped up all weekend and would not drain. Room could benefit from a good cleaning. A major snowstorm occurred and for some reason they did not see the need to remove the snow and the ice so that the guests could go to dinner on Thanksgiving! Was asked for feedback about our stay when we checked out. When I gave feedback that we were unable to leave the cottage as management did not bother to clear away snow and ice, I was told, "never mind, don't need to hear that!!" Avoid this place at all costs. read more

We stayed here for 2 nights and love it!! The falcon cabin is really nice and clean with a big kitchen. The bathroom has a nice jacuzzi tub! The surrounding area is very quiet and tranquil, yet it's only about 10 mins. from downtown. The owner is very nice and he has amount of collection of dvds that you can watch in your cabin. We were there in January, and it was freezing at night, good thing that the room has a heater. Definitely will come back and try another cabins!! read more

This place only concern is money. We canceled our reservations because of the fire and the charged us because it was not ten days. We have been going there for over four years and they'd rather charge a fee to a long time customer instead of inviting us back after all the fire dangers are gone. I understand the cancellation policy but when it's due to a fire we should be given consideration and respect for our long time services. I will never stay there again. Bottom line you sticking to policy shows it's about money. Your concern for a repeat customer doesn't even way in your decision to refund the fee and gain more in the future. Your non flexible attitude is truly telling of your business practices. read more

I am going to give the blue bird cabin a five star now as it is being upgraded ! we have loved coming to this particular cabin for years. We had to stop coming because it needed a few badly needed upgrades. It needed a new couch (the one facing north as the old one was very worn and we sunk into it and no amount of cushions could help it. ) The beds are wonderful and the kitchen stocked nicely. We have stayed at two different cottages recently and they are far from modern but the bed were extremely comfortable But I will say we stopped at a handful of places and the same gentleman both times has the best customer service in town. So glad we were able to book a cottage here for our 16th anniversary! My wife and I had our 13 yr old son in tow and our two dogs, but this was the first family trip/anniversary trip since shortly before Covid hit. From the get-go, Tony was really warm and gracious and went above and beyond to accommodate our family. Be sure and stop in the office to check out a DVD from his great selection and enjoy a conversation with him. We will for sure be back. So far, we loved the Bluebird cottage and the Quail cottage the best. Very cozy and just the right amount of home/cabin balance. It's very close to town too, but not too close where there will be much foot traffic. If you stay here once, I am sure you'll want to come again. I hope we can come back in the winter! read more

We stay at the lovely Bluebird Cottage Inn whenever we visit Idyllwild! It's been such a great place to spend a night or two. Very cozy, beautiful surroundings, and Tony the manager and the other folks at the checkin desk are always incredibly friendly, kind, and welcoming. Very good people that will treat you like family. In the office they have tons of movies you can check out. The rooms are stocked with a mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker, cups, plates, silverware, and dish-soap so you can make yourself right at home. Everything is always clean and tidy. AC and heat work great. I always get a great night of sleep at the Bluebird and plan to continue staying here whenever we visit Idyllwild. The setting is lovely, lots of big trees and just a couple of minutes from the town center of Idyllwild. We love the Bluebird Cottage Inn! read more

So me and the SO decided we wanted to get the eff out of San Diego for the weekend. We couldn't afford to stay somewhere too pricey and we also had my son (a wiener dog named Maverick) to consider. We first tried to book a room at the Fireside Inn, owned by the father of this man's fine establishment. He was super nice, but only had a large room that wasn't really suited to our needs. So we were able to get a nice room at the Bluebird Cottage Inn at a reasonable price for our weekend. The location is only about a half a mile from the center of town and is located on a pretty stretch of hilly property. The rooms are clean, nicely-furnished and our particular room had its own gas fireplace. Their pet rates are very reasonable, maxing out at $20 so even if you stay a whole week, they only charge you $20 total for your pet. The owner is very nice and available whenever your clueless tourist self has any questions. He's even got a nice stash of DVD's that he lends out for free while you're staying there. This will definitely be our place of choice when staying in Idyllwild. read more

I stayed three weeks...loved it so much. The old time knotty pine cabins remind me of escaping to summer camp and of living in Idyllwild as a younger person. It is easy to feel completely at home here, with well equipped kitchens, fireplaces, great heaters, nice clean bathrooms, comfortable beds. I do bring an extra comforter since I like thick bedding but they have extra blankets available if you ask, and are very very nice, accomodating and easy to work with. yes, the cabins are older and with any older place you can expect to find a loose nail or two or whatever. These are real cabins and have a bit of dust and things you will find in the mountains! I like it that the cabins don't reek like cleaning products when you arrive! Real knotty pine! The grounds are wonderful and full of nice places to sit under the trees. There are patios with bbqs and tables. They have movies available. The kitchens are adorable. My friends who visited said, "I could live here!" There are deer that pass by outside your window and other animals. I heard no road noise from my cabin and the whole facility was very quiet except for saturday night. beware of renting a room next to one of the jacuzzis lol. Anyway, I can't wait to come back! Here's a tip for visiting Idyllwild. Keep your expectations...rustic. This little town is not bougie at all, and I sure wouldn't want it to get that way. Bluebird Inn, one of several motels I've stayed in up here, is perfectly acceptable - low rates, warm rooms, hot water, pine paneling. Cool front desk guy with a lot of DVDs to borrow. I wasn't looking for hairdryers or memory foam mattresses in the room and so was perfectly happy. And the tvs are small... and the Internet was spotty but I think that's because it's a mile high up in the beautiful pristine mountains. Go outside! read more

This is a bizarre review because I had a pretty great time at the Bluebird Cottage Inn. We stayed in Owl, a cozy, two bedroom cabin, that came with a decent sized living room (with fireplace) and kitchen. We were supplied with everything that we needed, including extra blankets and pillows. My only quibble would be with the quality (?) of the really old, junky pots and pans in the kitchen. I'm guessing they were remnants from a garage sale. A garage sale in 1972. Seriously. When I was staying in temporary housing a few years back, I bought my self a set of five or six pots and pans for $50 at Great Stuff. And you know what? They're great! Even when I got my fancy schmancy All Clad copper core pans from a long-term stint in storage, I STILL use the cheap ones regularly. So I'm hard pressed to think of a reason that BCI has such pitiful cookware. Anyway, my friends, who also stayed in adjoining rooms at the same inn that weekend, had a rather major quibble: backed up sewage in their bathrooms. There appeared to be a pretty substantial plumbing problem, evidenced by a day-long visit from a plumber. One of them had a problem with their heater too. Because they had young children, both sets of friends were disappointed by the innkeeper's lackadaisical response, maybe --dare I conjecture?--because they had prepaid their bill. Now, the guy seems pretty mellow, so maybe he was just being himself. But if there ever were a time to summon up some dramatic acting skills from those middle school theatre classes it would be in circumstances such as these. Dream sequence monologue: "Sewage in your rooms...OH, NO! I'm so SORRY! (Repeat a few times.) We must make sure the BABIES are ALL RIGHT! We're going to take care of this problem AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. I will do everything in my power to ENSURE YOUR COMFORT! And I will SPARE NO EXPENSE!" From what I gather, the response was faaaaar more understated. One family ended up checking out early and driving back to SD that night. The other, I'm pretty sure, will never go back. read more

My husband and I took advantage of their "Stay 2 Nights, Get 3rd Night FREE" deal! We've been coming up to Bluebird Cottage Inn and the Fireside Inn (Both Family owned) for almost 5 years now! We have tried different cabins from a small and cozy 2 person cabin to a larger, still cozy, 6 person cabin! All of the cabins that we've stayed in were very clean! The office personnel at both locations are very nice and helpful. Cabins starting at $60! To make our trip more comfortable, we brought our own DVDs, iPod player, delicious homemade appetizers, alcohol (of course), and our Keurig coffee maker (Mr. Coffee w/coffee packets supplied in cabin)! Our little family decided to go to Idyllwild for a day or so just to play in the snow. I love how Idyllwild is quiet and not a resort town at all. We booked a room at the Bluebird and was pretty happy about everything. Best part was that they allowed pets for $10 extra a night. So we brought our puppy along too! The room was fairly inexpensive and did the trick. We originally thought we were getting a room with a wood burning fireplace, but didn't get one. Kids were kind of disappointed about that. (we even bought firewood). The room itself was pretty tiny. But it had two beds and my son, who loves hotels, loved staying here. Oh one of the things I saw on the internet was that we should drink the tap water because it's natural spring water. So I complied. And man even though the water was from the bathroom tap was pretty good. Since it was cold outside the water was pretty chilly and felt good in our hot room. I even bottled some up for my mom (who claims to be some sort of water expert) stated this was some of the best water she had ever tasted. All in all I say it's a cute inexpensive place to enjoy beautiful Idyllwild. I wouldn't expect nothing fancy though. read more
