I stayed in the crested jay for one night because it was the cheapest and best lookin cottage for my buck (In the pictures online). Upon entering, the cottage had a funky smell. The room looked dusty and had old spiderwebs in many areas. The showers had gout and what looked like black mold, I am no expert on that but just an observation. On the bright side the hot water works great. The bathroom has 2 or 3 suspicious looking holes aimed directly at the toilet and the shower. I forgot to take pictures of those. I tried shining a light but couldn't see anything in the holes but it just made us uncomfortable. The bathroom cabinets had a dead spider just chilling in there. I wanted to pour some drinks and chips in the complimentary glasses and bowls they left us, they looked dirty and dusty with fingerprints on them. Luckily they left us dish soap and a new looking sponge in the bathroom for us to wash them ourselves. The couch had a dusty random t-shirt someone forgot behind it. While in bed I noticed some holes in the walls pointed directly at the bed, this made us very uncomfortable, making it difficult for us to sleep throughout the night. I tried looking in the holes and couldn't see anything with my naked eye and phone flashlight. I think this place needs better house keeping and maintenance. Throughout the stay I just felt dirty, and I get a feeling that the bedsheets weren't clean after everything we've seen. At least they left us complimentary string cheese and coffee. They also have a selection of dvds/movies you can borrow or rent in their office. The fireplace was pretty cool.

Loved the end room, was the "swallow" room. 1 king, 1 twin.

Extremely kind and helpful. Needed an inexpensive place to stay in a bind. They were so accommodating that it made a tough situation into a relaxing getaway. The air conditioner worked excellent, loved the room and options. The women here treated you like family and took time to explain things. Loved the room too. So beautiful up here. The GPS actually did get me all the way here! We chose a deck room instead of a cabin. All priced excellent. Had looked at airbnb first but $200 was ridiculous. So happy I found them here instead. Beth at check out was amazing too. thanks ladies!! For everything

In love super cute cottage, covert clean and tidy. They had pots and pans and dish soap and sponge for dishes. Plenty of towels and super fluffy pillows were available for us. This was my first time visiting Idyllwild and I will be back I called the office a few times because I had a lot of questions (so sorry staff) but Tony was very polite and helpful. Check-in staff was also very friendly. Thank you very much for all your help.

The bed felt like it had rocks in it. A most uncomfortable experience. Plus it was above the road & very noisy.

Spacious, Has big rooms, fresh towels, and a cozy vibe that made it hard to leave. The fireplace was super easy to use and kept the entire place toasty. Outside, the surroundings are stunning! peaceful and beautiful, with nature all around. Even though nearby homes are somewhat close, the layout and trees make it feel completely private you hardly notice. The only suggestion is that we couldn't quite figure out how to crank up the TV volume, so make sure to bring portable speaker for movie night. Highly recommend, it's the perfect cozy getaway! The staff at the reception desk were super helpful and gave us suggestions of things to do for the two nights we stayed. The cabin was cute and perfect for 2 people to stay in. It was clean and presentable. The queen size bed did not work well for us. We were pretty cramped and the bed wasn't the most comfortable. I wish that I had brought my pillows from home, but decided against it before we hit the road. I would recommend for a weekend getaway. Idyllwild is a beautiful place and although we weren't the most comfortable for two nights, we still had a great time.

DO NOT STAY HERE!…read more You know that feeling when you're excited for a trip and ready to check into your hotel after a long drive? That was not the case here. There was nobody at the front desk. I honestly thought I had the wrong address. When I finally found the desk, there was a sign saying to call the manager for questions or check-in. I tried calling--no answer. Mind you, there is rarely cell service in this area, yet they expect customers to call them to check in. I arrived early because I wanted to ask about getting a crib for our room. Someone from housekeeping came out and told me they don't offer cribs or pack-and-plays. I then left and drove all over the city trying to buy or rent a baby bed, but had no luck. When I returned, I asked if I could at least see the room we'd be staying in so I could find a safe place for my baby to sleep. That's when the cleaning lady--not a manager, not a front desk assistant--told me they don't offer cribs because children are not welcome and that we couldn't check in at all. I finally managed to get a manager on the phone, and they confirmed that we could not check in and would not be refunded for our reservation. I've stayed at many hotels, including adult-only properties. Those websites are usually very clear and upfront. I had to dig to find that this was an adults-only property. Meanwhile, their website says they partner with a children's camp and welcome families, which makes this even more confusing. While there, I also saw two other customers complaining that their rooms were never serviced. I noticed the website says no pets are allowed, yet I saw a woman coming out of her room with a dog. They did absolutely nothing to help us, refused to return our money, and were willing to turn away a family with a young baby without hesitation. Frankly, these people have no business running anything in the hospitality industry.

It was a little difficult for me to get any sleep the first night because of the smoke smell. But airing it out the next day (and a 10mile hike) helped! AS IDYLLWILD STARTER SPOT = 5-stars! If this is your first time to Idyllwild, this is great. Easy to find. Easy to walk to town. Quiet and away from town center. Budget between "cabin" and "hotel" FIRST TIME to Idyllwild. The address is on Hwy 243. Unlike other major roads, it is empty after 8pm - so don't worry that it might be noisy. It's not. On the plus side: If you've never been here, it's very easy to find. But also away from the center of town (but not so far that you can't walk to it) INNKEEPERS & STAFF The innkeepers who greeted us when we arrived and checked us out were very helpful and extremely friendly. There is a small shop for gifts in the lobby area. Some booking services might not have all of the right information. Call the front desk with questions. They are super helpful. PARKING Easy to find and plenty of parking out front ROOMS (Evergreen) We stayed in one of the original (older) rooms. It has been upgraded with new plumbing and a jacuzzi style jet tub alongside the shower. The room is spacious and comfortably fits all of your gear on one side of the room away from the bed. A big hearth in front of the fireplace is perfect for a make-shift table. The drawback to this particular room (Evergreen) is that you are under the stairs to the rooms above. Not terrible, as most people were in by 9pm. But you will hear them creaking up and down when they leave their rooms. You can't hear them in the rooms. There are other rooms that are not connected or under other people's rooms. Clean sheets Clean towels Nice shower (saloon doors on old shower) Separate toilet/tub room. Pillows are a little flat HVAC works well (workers came in to check it while we were there) Fun/Silly books and board games in the room. - Didn't use fireplace - Didn't use television - Just needed a spot to sleep and shower before the next day's adventure. This was perfect +. COMMON SPACES INSIDE; There is a fantastic common space in the main house/lobby. Large long tables for where they used to serve breakfast. (There is no breakfast service: hotel style coffee en suite) The long tables are great for spreading out maps, games, whatever needs a bunch of space outside of your room. OUTSIDE; 1. Back Deck: There's a warm, sunny deck, protected from wind and hwy sounds. Everyone's room opens onto this space. 2. Gazebo: A small 4 seat gazebo is in the southern garden area. With views of the creek area, this is a great spot to take a nice afternoon rest stop. Nice place to sit to read, or sketch, or just close your eyes for a minute and say "I'm NOT asleep". GETTING AROUND: TO TOWN: The inn is a perfect distance from town. About 7-10 minutes to walk, there's a path that leads from the back door of the inn to the edge of town. STRAWBERRY CREEK is what it's all about. Walking this path back and forth to town is FANTASTIC. The path to town might be THE MAIN SELLING POINT OF THE INN. The stairs down to the creek path are a little severe, but the path is VERY easy to walk. Driving to town feels silly = 2 minutes. IDYLLWILD PARK (& Campground) Perimeter Hike (4 miles). Strawberry Creek Inn is a short (2-4 block walk) to the campground. The perimeter trail isn't especially technical (although a little steep in some spots), but it's basically just across the street from the inn.

Raj is the owner and truthfully has always given us such amazing service and conversation. The people who work at the front desk besides him are always personable and helpful. If you're looking for a super safe, clean, and affordable place in idyllwild stay here! I have been coming here for years and can vouch that rain, snow, or hot sun, there is incredible accommodations and people waiting to serve you. I think sometimes people forget small businesses do their best to give the absolute most they can with the budget and employees they have and I think the bunkhouse has only improved since I started staying here on weekend trips for the last few years. So I have always been gracious with the times I have had low shampoo in the complimentary soaps in the shower or an appliance being spotty. I know they are doing their best and they try to resolve it as quickly as they can when I've brought it up to them. I love the cabin style rooms, and have stayed in the different versions depending on how many people come with me. In the winter, you feel like you're in your own little cabin with the old wall heater watching the snow drip off the roof from the front room window. The kitchenette is always clean and generous with Teas and coffees, a mini fridge, plates, cutlery, etc. In the summer and spring you can watch birds make their nests in the trellis vines near the roof posts. It is whimsical for my fellow whimsy people, and secluded despite it being all one long building, if you're looking for a quiet getaway. I've had great conversations with people outside their rooms where there are small chairs and tables for getting some fresh morning air and listening to the music nature has to offer. It gives you the community and warm welcomes that they advertise, and whether your room neighbors are just hikers passing through or returning visitors, I've always had such a fun time chatting when we're sitting outside enjoying the fresh mountain air. This vibe is to die for, I ask anyone looking for somewhere to stay to look not further than here. Support small businesses and stay here for your next night away or weekend trip. I love this place with my whole heart and soul! If I could give this place a million stars I would. Go Bunkhouse !

The location and staff are truly superb -- friendly, welcoming, and in a great spot close to town -- but the room itself needs serious attention. The toilet was dirty when I arrived, and there was no bath mat. There were no proper utensils or paper products, aside from toilet paper. The floors were dirty and there was black hair everywhere, which was disappointing and made the room feel unclean. The listing shows a Jacuzzi tub, but it didn't work at all, and there wasn't even a plug to fill the tub. This was one of the main reasons I booked the room, so it was a letdown. I was also looking forward to the breakfast scones that the property advertises. Instead, we received dry scones, apple juice. One more thing future guests should know: the toilet is positioned only about half a foot from the sink, so you literally have to sit sideways. It's uncomfortable and should be mentioned in the room description. This hotel seems to cater mainly to Pacific Crest Trail hikers in the summer, which is fine, but the rooms should be advertised accurately so guests know what to expect. The staff and location are excellent, but the rooms need better cleaning, maintenance, and honest descriptions
