I naively came after a storm this morning and all of the trails were very wet and/or muddy. My feet are soaked leaving but I still had a good time. I saw a lot of birds including a green heron, an osprey, a bluebird, and a pair of immature trumpeter swans.

It was a moderately challenging (meaning some extended periods of walking uphill) and about a 3-1/2 to 4 mile hike. The day we went it was not buggy but we did encounter some muddy areas. Great place to hike come fall when the leaves will be changing.

Small park with a couple of ponds, large grassy area, few paved walking trails, bathroom facilities. Bandstand / amphitheater - waiting for summer concert series to make it come alive! New parking lot - glad they finally paved a black top one. A muddy mess on a rainy day when you had to park your car on the grass - no more! A few benches to sit and enjoy the evening breeze and catch up with a dear, long time, friend tonight. We walked our dogs along the paved pathways. Several folks enjoying the warm evening outdoors sitting on folding chairs or blankets. Kids playing catch. Playground area on one side. A decent, clean, neighborhood park.

Bassett Park is a very small town park at the corner of Bassett and Klein Rd in Williamsville. The…read moremain feature of the park is a grandstand where a variety of different weekly concerts are held in the summer. The grandstand was expanded last year and at the same time the parking area was as well. The main occupants of the park seem to be ducks, geese, and what looks like a local school track team that can be seems frequently running around the park. A couple of years ago an art sculpture was placed in the park. I personally think it's placed too far back to be thoroughly enjoyed. To me it looks like kids 'pick up sticks', for those that remember them. It's suppose to be thought provoking and that's my thought. Come in the summer and check out the concerts!

Just as you're starting to get a good workout in, it comes to an abrupt end. Don't get me wrong. It's great for what it is. Just don't expect a long walk akin to, say, the Town of Lockport Nature Trail. The highlight for us was the cat tails (or corn dogs, according to my sons) and the turtles. Worth a visit if you're in the area.

But let me emphasize the "wilderness" part of the trail name; it's not as well maintained as some hiking trails you'll find in WNY. From the start, it was clear this was a hidden secret of the area. With no parking lots at the trailhead, parking was limited to a small cleared area alongside the road. This space was only large enough for about three vehicles. Getting into the woods, the ground was uneven and rocky, and any trail markings became lost or confusing. Trails were overgrown with tall foliage, and poison ivy and poison oak encroaching and often crossing the trails. This said, however, the well-constructed benches, the bridges, and numerous signs about the local wildlife did demonstrate that this trail had at one point been lovingly built. Be prepared. Wear appropriate footwear. Mind where you step. And keep an eye on the brook so you know which trails to follow. It is not a difficult hike, but it is more rough than was expected. Mostly due to the need for maintenance on a few of the supposedly marked trails.

I didn't see any other signs, but I had a hunch about the "Dead end" road across the street. The lot at the end of the road showed up on Google Maps. About a dozen spaces, too. The path leads to a boardwalk through marshland. Then you can choose to walk beside the meadow or explore paths in the woods. Eventually, it was a little too muddy for us, but I look forward to going back during the summer. The funny thing is when you leave the park, the back of the sign indicates the parking lot. Otherwise, it's a lovely well-kept park.

This well hidden nature preserve is nestled behind a local neighborhood. After reading a comment…read moreposted by another yelper, knew had to check this preserve out next time in the area. A background on how this became a nature preserve; the Lytle family back in 2008 donated this 112 acres of land. It's perfect for hiking or bike riding. Even though I came on a windy, muddy day after the rain still was a nature lovers oasis. The preserve is magnificent im sure in the heart of spring or middle of summer. One of Niagara county beautiful escapes for tranquility.

The bathrooms were very clean. If you plan on walking down Buffalo Creek and getting in the water - word of caution wear crocs or water shoes because the green moss will make you slip - also someone in our party got a leach on their foot and the kids said there were a ton near the mini falls so beware.

(We didn't realize that, while trying to find the place.) The path is about a mile. The park is well-maintained and there are three or four gazebos of varying size, if you'd like to have a picnic. There is a nice waterfall area that some people were swimming in. On the way back to the car, on the other end of the path, I noticed many beautiful birdhouses in the trees.

Besides that, there's also a nice walking path that goes through a pretty area. Decent walking today but saw spots that might be a bit muddy during wetter weather. Definitely not a hard walk though. There's also a large building which I presume are public restrooms. There's some grassy area to picnic too. However it seems most people come here just to park, then ride their bike on the bike path. Part of the bike path runs along the water. There's also boat storage for the UB rowing team here. I'd recommend coming here to picnic, briefly checkout the view, or bring your bike and enjoy the bike path.
