My favorite part of Yelp is finding and sharing small businesses that put that extra heart into their store or restaurant. My boyfriend told me about this store when he was shopping around for our newly adopted dog. It's tucked next to a hair care business near TJ Maxx and Bakers on Maple. It's a great location with ample parking. I especially love that it's nearby other stores we would normally frequent so picking up something from Nature dog for our pets makes it easy peasy. What's super cool about this store and other smaller pet stores is they have newly adopted pet kits you can pick up to get you started on your new furbaby journey. I stopped in a couple times in the last two months and each time I walked out happy to have gone there. The staff here are super friendly, helpful, and love sharing their personal experiences of their pets. They have signs on the doors letting you know there are cats out which is super cute to walk in and see them playing or sleeping. As you enter they have a shelf right when you walk in with some sale or discounted items for you to check out. I like that it's in a spot you can easily see and peruse through. They have a variety of pet items but not too many different items where it becomes overwhelming. They have a shelf with dog and cat grooming items and care items. It was nice to see different products that are eco friendly and care specific as well. I was equally pleased to see toys that range from handmade, wood, rubber, plush and plastic. They also have a good handful of enrichment type of toys. For example, puzzles, cat toys that are interactive, and a variety of dog toys you can hide treats in. I appreciate that this store is small enough to take your time and consider the different products. I also enjoy being able to see different food and treat brands for both cats and dogs. They have several name brands I'm familiar with and brands we currently feed our pets too. If you're on the fence as to whether or not to check out a smaller pet store I highly suggest you give Nature dog a try. They have cat and dog foods that range from kibble, freeze dried, frozen and treats in those forms as well. I love Nature Dog and am so thankful it's a pretty easy drive from our house! read more

I've been shopping at Nature Dog since it opened in the 1990s. It was the first "natural" pet store in Omaha. They have always offered a wide variety of fresh, frozen, freeze- and air-dried foods in a variety of proteins suitable to the digestive and nutrition needs of all dogs and cats. Melissa, the owner, is extremely knowledgeable and can make recommendations for pets with food sensitivities and allergies. Nature Dog also offers a HUGE variety of treats, including a snack bar. Plus, a full selection of training needs, collars and leads. It has the biggest selection of Nina Ottosson (and other) brain games I've seen in the area. And - toys! We stopped into Nature Dog on our way to Petco to see what they had. We were greeted immediately once we walked in, and the front desk staff was awesome. They're a small boutique style and local store with a great selection of options. We opted for some training treats with our new puppy. She sniffed around and found a toy she liked and carried it for a bit around the store while we browsed. Between the treats, bones, food, and other options, I was impressed. They had quality brands that would ease your mind about what your dog is eating. We grabbed a few other treats to try out. They offer fresh treats at the counter on the left side if you're looking for one or two! I look forward to going back. read more

Went into this shop to buy dog food, rec. Orijen. Mentioned I didn't want any products made with China ingredients. She proceeded to point out dog bones, rawhides, etc. to me which were all good products she sold. I didn't have my reading glasses on, and picked out two nice sized bones. One was a gigantic dino-looking bone. The other a pressed rawhide, largest size and the huge bag of Orijen. My total bill was over $60. Went home and doggie didn't like Orijen, after several attempts,gave up on it. Then I went to rip off the tag for her rawhide bone, ONLY to discover, the dreaded MADE IN CHINA printing. Called shop to chat about that and just said they never had any complaints about the products ---nothing was addressed about the pet treats/food issues surrounding the junk in the China factories. How close to nature is that? Went all the way to the store to return dog food and look for something else. Lady at the counter was busy chatting with another, then told me she couldn't take back any opened bags, period. She asked if I was first offered a sample, and I told her no. By this time, I am quite disappointed about the policies of this store and lack of communication. I should have been offered a refund or store credit at the very least. Secondly, don't pass off China rawhide to make a sale. Having a dog and two cats, I spend a fortune in supplies/food. Normally went to PetCo and decided to try Nature Dog instead, thinking it was all about customer service and quality. NEVER AGAIN. Will try Long Dog Fat Cat at Village Pointe,or go back to Petco. read more

Nature dog is small boutique pet store catering to people who want the highest quality food and toys for their pets. They only stock very high quality pet food. You will not find Alpo here! You won't even find the brands of dog food that pose as high quality (but really aren't). The people who run the store are dedicated and knowledgeable. The prices are competitive considering that we are talking about very high quality (and thus more expensive) products here. My only wish is that they would stock a wider selection of high quality dog toys. What they do have is good, don't get me wrong, but it would be nice if they had more. read more

I've recently adopted two Maine Coon Kittens and we're also getting a puppy in October! that's a lot of fur! My cat was sick for about 6 months and needed a special kind of food. Nature Dog was one of the 2 places in Omaha that carried it and they are close to my house. Overall I really like place and I love that they carry a wide variety of food. Also I love that the owner has 2 resuce cats she lets live in the warm store. They are friendly and so adorable. My only complaint is that they don't carry more cat stuff and that they only carry a few kinds of each food they have have. read more
