I have been dreaming of working with Natural Stone Source for quite some time. When they were located on Frontage Rd in Nipomo, we would regularly walk our dogs past their store and dream about one day being able to redo our own kitchen with beautiful stone from their store. Fast-forward a few years and their new location in Santa Maria has MORE slabs and is now conveniently located right around the corner from our house! We recently committed to doing our kitchen and it was a no brainer who we were buying our slabs from. We went to the grand opening celebration for their new Santa Maria location and Caryn, our salesperson, was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. She never once pressured us to make a decision and was extremely easy going. Their selection of products is incredible, and the way it's laid out in the store makes it very easy to shop and compare. They carry porcelain, marble, granite, quartz, quartzite, and much more. They also offer sinks, backsplash options, and work with local appliance companies, so it can really be a one-stop-shop for most of your remodeling needs. We originally thought we'd go with porcelain, but kept looking and circled back multiple times to an incredibly beautiful slab of Sea Pearl Quartzite. Because the natural stone slabs are all unique, we made our purchase that night so we'd not lose out on this perfect stone. We ordered two slabs and they stored them until we were ready for templating & install. Once we were ready for the countertops, we put our deposit down for installation, and set a date with Mike for template and install. When the crew came to template the kitchen, the lead, David, took dimensions and made a template of our kitchen and backsplash. He took his time making sure everything was measured correctly and if there were any design details he asked us what our thoughts were and would note the change. The templates were given to John, a master at cutting stone, who finished our countertops and backsplash in two days, way ahead of our scheduled install date, which means we're that much closer to having a working kitchen again. We decided not to choose the layout of the template and gave John total creative freedom, and we're glad we did. Install day was like Christmas morning, and after seeing the layout John decided on, we were floored. All of the pieces came together perfect and he was able to book match all the mitered edges, and there appears to be no seams even though they were cut and glued together. The grain pattern everywhere is gorgeous and well thought out! David, Alex and a few other guys were here for the install. I love that David was here for the install since he was the one to template and he knew exactly how things were supposed to be. They laid drop cloths across the house to protect our floors, and worked hard to keep dust to a minimum. The guys spent 7.5 hours installing our countertops and backsplash. They had to make some additional cuts on-site to ensure perfect fitment of the backsplash and some pieces that wrapped inside the window box. A few sections of stone weighed over 600lbs, but these guys made lifting the slabs into place look easy and were extremely careful when handling them so as to not damage anything. David is extremely meticulous and you'll find him constantly using a level and measuring multiple times before making cuts, he also looks at things from different angles to make sure it all looks correct. I appreciate his perfectionism and his work is reflective in his attention to detail. I am EXTREMELY picky and notice little things and his work is FLAWLESS! I'm telling you, he's the guy you want installing your countertops! When it was all done, the guys cleaned everything up and vacuumed the areas of the house they worked in, very professional and courteous. I couldn't be happier with our decision to use Natural Stone Source for our kitchen countertops and backsplash!! They are the best choice on the central coast for all of your natural stone needs!! This is a hard review for me to write. To sum it up, we got the job done, and it turned out fine, but it was not without it's problems. I'm fine with problems, by the way. I've done enough home remodels to know they can occur. It was the unprofessional manner in which they were dealt with. The details: We hired Natural Stone for a kitchen counter install. Great price and initially friendly staff, which is why we chose them. They worked with our parameters and were patient with our requests. The problems started with the template. I understand that the fabrication may not be directly associated with Natural Stone, but since that's who they used on our job, my review reflects that. During templating, the question was raised concerning where the counter would meet up with the oven/range. I made it very clear that we wanted to maintain a gap between the counter and the oven (which isn't standard installation - but was made clear nonetheless). On the day of install, the piece that was brought in contained NO edge at the specified gap for the oven. This left the underlying plywood exposed to visual sight, which is very unsightly. Immediately we called the fabricator to figure out what went wrong. Unfortunately he became accusatory, stating that standard installation runs up to the oven, thus eliminating the need for an edge piece. I explained that we had agreed to leave a gap, which he remembered, but his excuse was that I didn't specifically tell him I wanted an edge. So I asked if a professional countertop install leaves exposed plywood. He just repeated that I didn't tell him I wanted an edge (as if anyone in their right mind wants to pay thousands of dollars for an unprofessional job). The issue wasn't resolved until I made contact with the owner and explained the situation. It was a little disheartening that I was still made to feel like I was to blame when talking with the owner. But we did come to an agreement that it would be fixed. A laminate piece was added to give an edge that hid the plywood, and it looks good. Only when the second slab was brought in did we realized that the fabricator had placed the edge meant for the oven on the opposite side of the counter where it meets the refrigerator! My wife asked if we should call and get that fixed as well, but I decided that I was done with the fixes, and since it didn't detract from the look of the counter, we kept it as is. Project was completed in a timely manner, and it turned out good, and the problem was fixed. But the customer is not always right with this business. It took A LOT of convincing for the fix to be made. read more

I checked with several companies on the Central Coast and NSS had the best selection and prices. My sales rep, China kept in touch with me throughout the entire process, from stone selection to template to install. I opted for the Porcelain countertops and they are beautiful! The installers, Veronica, Fernando and Jorge did an EXCELLENT job with my install! I seriously can't say enough good things about them. We ran into an issue with my farmhouse sink and almost postponed for another day. But they talked it over and figured out a way to get the job done. It added a couple more hours to their day but they took their time and my counters look gorgeous! I'm extremely grateful for their work ethic and professionalism. After finding out from the supplier used by a major home improvement store that the material we had ordered would not be available We went to NSS and found a remnant for our small job. Not only was it at a vary fair price, but Mike put us in contact with a fabricator/installer who was out to measure the next day. It will be installed in less than a week from the time we started. Don't bother shopping here. It will be a waste of your time. They are unorganized and don't act they like they want your business. We purchased a vanity top which they offered to hold until we were done with our remodel. I tried to work with them on purchasing our tile there too, but they are difficult. I continued to check in with them regarding the granite we bought and found they had marked it to sell to someone else. They corrected the error and from that time on I would check in with them to remind them we had purchased that piece. We called to get the template appointment to fabricate the top and they couldn't find our top. Says there is no record of sale. My bathroom was designed around that particular top. This past month, I have had my floors re-done in travertine tile. When I walked into Natural Stone Source, the staff was immediately friendly, and they knew what they were talking about. My husband was installing the tile himself and they had no problem walking him through the installation process without being condescending. Also, we were able to get our travertine at a price cheaper than we could get from Home Depot. I would have given this company five stars, but when I walked in it turned out they were in the middle of a move, so the showroom was partially empty. It would be nice to see everything they have to offer, because some of the granite slabs they did have on display were pretty amazing. Positives: I had two good experiences with 2 different gentlemen. They called back when they said they would and listened to the issues I was having (see below) and tried to help solve them. Negatives: When it was time to deliver my stone, they dropped and broke it. I get it, mistakes happen. Chyna called to let me know and said they would get a new delivery the next week. My husband asked if there would be any compensation or possibly opportunity to buy something else on site because of delay. She said she would ask and let us know. (This was Friday Aug 24.) We hadn't heard back by Tuesday Aug 28, so I drove to Natural Stone Source to ask Chyna if there was any development as to whether or not there would be any compensation or ability to choose another stone. She did not greet me, say sorry (even when they dropped my stone), and told me "I don't know yet but we'll let you know." I went home. I called again about a week later to say I wish we would have at least been told they were sorry and have followed through with calling us back (I left a message). They still never called back. We will be remodeling two more bathrooms and I'll be going up to AG instead of Nipomo. I also have recommended to all my family and friends to do the same. I also found out they make the labels in such a way so they you can't price compare. Really disappointing business. read more

I purchased Cambria quartz from Central Coast Stoneworks/Natural Stone Source and their fabricators did the installation. Approximately 9 months later I felt something rough near the seam and discovered a 5" crack. I contacted Mike at CCS/NSS and sent photos and also to a Cambria rep that contacted me. I explained to Mike and the rep that I wanted the countertop replaced not repaired since it was in a new kitchen however later Cambria did do a repair to try and prevent future spread. The Cambria rep indicated I should have found the crack sooner and I explained that it was on the side of the countertop that I rarely use and due to the pattern in the quartz, poor lighting and my bad eyesight I didn't find the crack until it was long enough that I felt it and realized it wasn't the seam. It was insinuated that I did something to cause the crack and at one point the Cambria rep got argumentive with me on the phone raising his voice and accusing me of not doing my "due diligence." I became uncomfortable and ended the call. I thought I had done my due diligence by researching different quartz brands and thinking Cambria was one of the better brands purchased it. I didn't realize my "due diligence" needed to include checking the counter daily with a flashlight to see if cracks had appeared. Once I did start doing this I discovered cracks on the opposite corner on the front mitered edge and a contractor pointed out that the underside of that corner had been filled with resin. Employees and the owner of CCS/NSS have ignored requests for return calls and are refusing to take responsibility for their poor workmanship. A product is only as good as the store front representing it and due to the disturbing interaction with the Cambria rep and the poor workmanship of CCS/NSS I would not recommend to anyone that they purchase Cambria quartz and do not do business with Central Coast Stoneworks/Natural Stone Source. read more

I went in looking for a remnant and they had a decent selection but most importantly they were happy to show them to me, VS all the other places pretty much telling to get lost and not wanting to deal with my little job. My job was small but I knew my exact measurements and what I wanted. I picked the stone quick and moved forward that same visit. I was happy to get the job done within a week at a great price. Very disappointed. They gave me a great quote (and I really shopped around!), the sales person was patient and professional - didn't try to upsell anything, was there for us when we needed her and stayed back when we were making a decision. I really liked that. Templating was done promptly too. Installation moved up a day, which was a pleasant surprise. Installers worked very hard to do a nice install over my cabinets that turned out to be not as leveled as necessary for a smooth install. That's where the good stuff stops. I discovered chips in my granite surface, which are normal to any natural stone but are usually filled with a matching epoxy. Mine were large chips and weren't filled, so they stood out to a naked eye. My undermounted sink cutout doesn't match the sink. Like, at all! Normally client gets to choose the reveal they want - flush, negative or positive reveal. First of all, I wasn't asked which one I wanted and I forgot to ask them. But I hoped they would at least pick a reveal and stick with it. Instead, I have positive reveal in the front, negative in the back, flush on the right and negative in the left. The the left corner of the granite cutout overhangs majorly (like 9mm!) over the sink. As if the sink doesn't belong in the cutout... Their reason was that "sometime sink template isn't accurate" But I didn't just give them the template - I gave them the entire sink 3 weeks prior to fabrication. They also glued it under the countertop in their warehouse - didn't they see that their cutout didn't line up with the sink? Caulking job around the rim is uneven - some part are caulked, some aren't. Also, I did get a sealant job. But the sealant is supposed to be put over a granite that has been cleaned or at least wiped from dust. Mine wasn't. My granite was all dusty in places with random chips from the faucet drilling. And yet somehow it got sealed. In places! I don't know exactly how that's possible (didn't see myself) but my granite is sealed (water beads up) in some places and in other places it soaks up water and gets dark. But they called me like 5 times in 3 hours to make sure I pay the balance of the invoice, though! I paid. Now I am wondering if I should have waited... Because before I paid the balance, the sales lady promised that a guy would come today in the morning to fill in the cracks. I took the morning off work. Guy didn't come. I called at noon. I am now promised that he'll be here tomorrow. Now, I will update this rating all the way to 5, if deserved, if the Company ends up honoring their contract and fixes the big defects. If you are still seeing one star - than I would recommend you shop for granite jobs elsewhere. UPDATE: Ok, so they guys came out as promised and fixed everything on my list. I am a happy customer. Will go back to them for my bathrooms vanities. Upgraded this rating to 4 stars. They could have had 5 if they did it the first time around! read more

After many weeks of remodeling our kitchen, it is finally completed and it looks BEAUTIFUL!!!. Shopping for granite and tile can be a very confusing task and w knew it was going to be expensive. We had a budget for the remodel so we had to shop around for the best deal . We saw the outlet store for Natural Stone Source in Nipomo .We were impressed with the amount of indoor granite displays in the showroom. We were able to shop indoors and not under the heat of the sun. We got great assistance and the price they quoted us with installation was very reasonable. I highly recommend this place. read more

This place lacks being professional. We got no help, no service. Our measurements for both bathrooms were exact. They oversold us 1 case extra for each bathroom. They absolutely refused to take these back for a refund. That's how they do business. According to other tile suppliers they would gladly take their mistaken ordered tile back for a refund. These were FULL brand new cases. Bad business practices. No one smiles, everyone seems mad and unhappy. poor, poor. We had to fight and argue and they just flat refused. They also ordered tile baseboards which we never needed or wanted. That took over 2 weeks to get our money back. I will NEVER recommend this place to a living soul!!! read more

THESE GUYS ARE CROOKS! DO NOT EVER USE THEM ! They don't keep their contracted agreement with their clients. They treat their workers like dirt and are NOT HONEST ! Had them lay tile and granite in our home and their prices was to provide labor and materials plus the granite and tile we provided. During the job they whined the whole time how hard it was and that its taking them longer than expected. They wanted more money for the materials they were supposed to provide on the job like thin set! Threatened to walk off the job and place a lien on the house if we don't pay for the materials that they promised to be part of their quote. Ended up costing us a lot more than the regular bids and took a lot longer. The tile is all crocked and craftsman is poor. ALL THEY ARE INTERESTED IN IS YOUR MONEY ! read more

I was desperate to have my kitchen counter tops replaced. I spent weeks looking for a contractor but all were either too busy or didn't want to take on such a small job. I was referred to NSS and was able to get the quartz that I wanted. The entire installation took less than 3 weeks. The only negative was that I had to manage the project. They gave me referrals to sub-contractors, but I had to coordinate it all - which was something that I personally didn't want to do. NSS also did not contact me to advise me of demo and install dates. I continually had to call them to get updates. That being said, every employee that I interacted with was friendly and professional. All in all, the job was done in a very timely manner and on budget...and the counter tops are beautiful! read more

Great Experience and Results... We recently remodeled a vacation rental condo at Blacklake in Nipomo, and we shopped around at several tile/granite places before deciding on NSS. From the very beginning, Mike (showroom manager/sales) was helpful and straightforward re: what they could do and what it would cost. He asked good questions and made many helpful suggestions. We found some gorgeous granite there at a very good price, as well as the tile to go with it. (This job included tile for 3 bathroom floors, 2 new tile showers, backsplashes, and a fireplace wall, plus granite for 4 bath vanities, a breakfast bar, and several kitchen countertops.) We agreed on a schedule upfront for the demo (old tile, countertops/vanities, etc.), new granite/tile install, etc., and their follow-through was excellent for the entire project. Always showed up when they said they would, and always did what they were supposed to. Aside from the beautiful work they did, one of my favorite things about working with these guys is that they were always careful and respectful with my property (unlike other tile people I have worked with in the past): they didn't mess up the rest of my place and always cleaned up after themselves every day. The team that templated and installed the granite did a great job, and the tile guys (Cesar and Luis) were amazing. The work they did on my showers, bathroom floors, backsplashes, and fireplace wall is gorgeous...artistic, really. When a few unexpected issues came up (and they always do with a remodel), Mike, Cesar, and Luis always came up with creative solutions that solved the problem. Remodels are always stressful, and some trades have to be closely supervised to ensure things don't go horribly wrong. We had great confidence in the team from NSS, knowing that they would be doing what we needed, without us checking up on them all the time. We are really, really pleased with how the granite and tile work came out, and we very much appreciate the professionalism shown by the whole team at NSS. Natural Stone Source Granite and Tile Outlet in Nipomo What an experience, we should have read all the other reviews first, but we went on a friend's recommendation. We started out bathroom remolding about 5 months ago, we started out ordering a vanity counter top from Home Depot. The first order took 3 weeks to arrive and it was damaged, so we ordered a replacement and after another 3 weeks it was warped on both ends. After talking to a co-worker he suggested that we visit Natural Stone Source Granite and Tile Outlet in Nipomo. On Friday we went into the store to see what they had, very good selection of stone slabs. After talking to the sale rep "Mike" who showed us around. We explained our problems with the first two counter tops and he just laughed. I explained that we need a vanity top that was 22 X 66 inch with a double sink. He took us to the back and showed us some remnants. The wife found two different slabs that she liked, so we got a price quote and found out the pre-installation requirements. So off to Home depot to buy the sinks; when we returned later that day Mike was busy with other customers so we just started looking around. I spotted a sample piece that just sparkled, after talking to another sales rep, she said that we have three slabs of it in the back, after looking at the slab; the wife said "YES" I love it and you can make it out of any section of that slab. Since I had to buy a whole slab, we decided to also replace the counter tops in our other house. Mike said we would have enough to do both units. After two weeks went by, I called on a Friday and talked to Mike who said our slab has not arrived, which took me by surprise. I said, we had already picked the slab out, did it get damaged during fabrication? He said No and that the slabs we picked out were for another customer "Bait and switch". I asked why we were not told that, he had no answer. The next day we received a call from the scheduler and they will be installing it on Monday. When they arrived for the installation, we noticed a big black circle about 2 inch in diameter right next to the front of the sink bowl cut out. It just stood out when you looked at the counter top. We rejected the installation and I called Mike and started to ask questions about the replacement slab. Why we did not get notified to come and inspect the slab and pick the section out. Mikes answer was I thought you were in a rush to get it finished. We immediately went to the store. After confronting Mike about the service and now we would not have enough material to finish the other unit. I asked to see the rest of the slab. We looked at it and said it does not look like the one we picked out. Mikes answer was that no two slabs are alike and I said correct that is why we asked to see the slab and have the opportunity to pick the section out for our main house. Mike then suggested that we pick out another remnant and he would not charge us. After looking through the slabs, we picked one out. Mike started to printout the invoice and it has the prices for the fabrication/installation, under mounted sinks and the cost of the slab. I told Mike, hold on, why are you charging me for the sinks and the slab, it was your mistake in the first place and I had already paid in full for the order. After going back and forth, I agreed to pay for the fabrication/installation for the other unit. It took another three weeks before we received the call of when the installation was going to happen. I think that every time I called to ask when the installation was going to happen, they pushed it out. On the day of installation, they forgot to bring the 4 inch back splash. I called Mike and complained about the installation and he said he would call me back. I waited four hours and no call back from Mike. Finally the scheduler called and said that they would stop by around four o'clock the next day to finish the installation. Bottom line is if you are going to use Natural Stone source Granite & Tile in Nipomo please watch out for the "Bait and Switch", the overcharging and bad customer service. The only good experience was the installation crew, they were friendly and professional. read more

Beware. We went here for a price comp for our vanity top, the "manager" from start to finish wasn't exactly helpful, he was ok but just there. He really didn't seem to care if we were there or not, and we were the only ones at the time. He acted a bit put off when I asked for a written estimate, and only printed it out after I asked a second time. After we declined wanting to buy one of their sinks, he suddenly blurts out "we have a $800 per job minimum", and unless we buy the sink we are under the minimum. Oh please, really?! That was it for us, NOT worth the hassle. If they act this uninterested in general service with a new customer, then I would really fear moving forward with the important stuff of a proper install. If you really know what your doing, they might be fine, otherwise we would def not recommend. We are really fed up with shopping "local" meaning give us your money, wait, and expect nothing. read more

I agree with Stacey S. They are very unorganized. The sales men/women on the showroom floor do not know what they are doing. That is why as a potential buyer you feel like they don't want your business. All they care about is making a sale. All the sales persons are on commissions!!! So buyer beware!!! Once they get your money and your check is cashed...they do not care when or how the job gets done!!! I would not recommend this company!!! They have inexperienced tile and granite setters. When my wife and I walked into the store to look at tiles we were immediately greeted by a contractor who was looking for work! We decided to have him oversee our bathroom construction. We picked a tile THAT THE STORE SALES PERSON AND THE CONTRACTOR KNEW THAT ONCE IT WAS CUT TO BE INSTALLED IT WOULD LOOK TERRIBLE!! We ended up with white tiles with a red boarder (the white color did not run through the tile so it all had red borders). Well to make a long story short...........we had to rip out the new tiles and RE PURCHASE NEW TILES....WE PAID FOR LABOR AND TILES TWICE!!! When we asked the contractor and the owner of the store as well as the sales person..Their answer was """You chose it! Those are the exact tiles you picked!"" My wife and I have heard other stories from other clients that have had similar problems. There was a gentleman who chose tiles that mimicked marble. When his boxes of tiles arrived the colors and the pattern of the tiles were different. It looked like two different types of tiles. The store owner and the salesperson said it is supposed to look like this! The store refused to take the tiles back because the vendor would not give a refund. We had a similar problem as Stacy. We picked out a granite vanity top to match our tiles and they told us the workers broke it. Everyone that works at Central Coast Stone has to many personal issues that they bring to work. The workers at the store just want to earn their paychecks....they don't care if your project is completed or not! NOTE: BEWARE OF THE CONTRACTORS WHO LEAVE THEIR BUSINESS CARDS ON SITE!!! THE SALES PERSONS AND CONTRACTORS WORK AS A TEAM. SO IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG WITH YOUR REMODEL...THE CONTRACTOR WILL BACK UP THE OWNER. Think about this. Why are Contractors hanging around this store for hours? To find idiots like our wife and I to hire them. I had NSS demo my old tile and install new granite recently. I worked with Mike Gutierrez and he was very professional, got the job started and completed very quickly. The granite is beautiful and I have received many compliments on the granite itself, how beautiful my kitchen now looks, and what a great job NSS performed. The crew that came out was prompt, also professional, courteous, and left my home spotless. The customer service provided by Mike and his crew far exceeded my expectations. The customer service I received at NSS was a breath of fresh air after dealing with other contractors in this area. Most contractors feel they are doing the customer a favor by working or bidding a job. That is if they even come out initially. Not so at NSS. At NSS You are treated like a customer, not a distraction. Also, there is a huge selection of countertop material and kitchen products in their showroom. Zero customer service. Sales team is nice and relaxed at first, but when it comes down to following up on a simple tile order there is no personal integrity. Not only with the salesman I dealt with, but when he was out even the people answering the phone were complacent and passing the buck. Blaming Dal Tile for the errors and that their rep wasn't calling them back (then call the rep's boss on my behalf, but no that step was not taken). No floor tile, means the range couldn't be installed, so no cooking for another week or two. No one fought for us with the supplier when things went wrong. We were lied to as well. This is only floor tile. It shouldn't be that difficult. We had to be the ones to keep following up. It took three shipments before the order was finally right, and still no concessions, no discount for our trouble. Not even a delivery offered. In business and in life things happen, it is just disappointing when people don't own up to it and try their best to make it right. Don't waste your time here. read more

If I could give them negative stars, I would. This outfit is absolutely unbelievable. From the misplacing of all paperwork, not once, but repeatedly, to the utter inability to respond in a timely manner, it was a joke of an experience and not in a funny way. We originally went in with a simple, straight forward question: Are you competitive with the big box stores like Home Depot. I am an organized person and we had precise computer generated layouts and only had to decide on minor details like edging and corners etc. It wasn't like we were problem un-educated customers. I was pretty excited when we got an answer in writing that "I talked to my boss he says we will match thier estimate". Well this is the first time in my over 50 yrs of living that a price match means 1100.00 higher. We were pleasant all the way through and those people in the front office are some the rudest people Iv'e ever met. I wasn't going to make a big scene and demand etc, I just figured if this is how you treat your customers, I will not hire you. It kinda all came home when the sales guy suggested I talk to the owner, Ken and when I called, I was going to ask why he ever said he would match when he was under no obligation to do so, they told me was in LA. An half hour later when I was paying for the two slabs, guess who was standing there talking on the phone! Yep it was the owner Ken. That was the biggest bummer too, that we really liked two of the slabs of granite and so we ended up buying from them and having Guadalupe granite pick it up and install it because they did not have anything close enough in color. I just wanted the 8 week ordeal to be over and never have to go to that place again. It was the only hitch in our kitchen remodel and so that is something, but I could NEVER recommend anyone to this place in good conscience. read more
