Long Review: I've been to a number of different hair salons across the Niagara Region looking for somebody who has the skill to work with my rather difficult head of hair. One time, I was asked to be a hair model and be cut by 'pro's from new york' at a different big name Salon in the region only to end up with a haircut that looked bad and didn't suit me at all. Disenchanted with salons, I gave up for a long time and just went to regular barber shops to get standard issue, boring haircuts. I was told by a number of people to see Vito at his newly opened salon in Thorold called Vanity and today, I went in and was blown away at the incredible attention to detail, professionalism, eye for trends and welcoming atmosphere of Vito and the rest of the staff at Vanity Salon. They've won me over as a customer and I will definitely recommend Vanity to all of my friends.

The receptionist was on the phone when i arrived, but gave me a warm smile and wave, welcoming me into the space. My stylist was Courtney. She listened to what i wanted, asking questions and explainging ideas with patience and kindness. She started the appointment off with a head and neck massage - which she asked consent for ahead of time. My hair was washed, and i was offered water or a warm beverage. Courtney took her time cutting my hair, noticing how it grows and checking in with me to make aure i was happy with the progression. She offered tips on how to blow dry and style my hair based on the way it grows and sent me on my way with a small sample of product. I absolutely adore my hair. She's great at what she does and fun to chat with! The first mani started peeling about 10 days later, not surprising with all the unpacking/moving in tasks I was doing. The 2nd mani lasted really long (well past 2 weeks) given that I was not so rough on my hands. Little pricey for a mani/pedi but there is attention to detail/good service. 5 STARS - MASSAGE: I've had a couple massages with Zoe. She is amazing! Has a proper conversation at the start of each session (doesn't cut into the massage time) to get to know you and your particular ailments/reason for seeking massage. Even recommends products and services (not specific to the studio) that might help. My husband loves going to her as well, and he's a tougher critic than me when it comes to professional massage. 3 STARS - HAIR BLOWOUT: I did this once here with Emma for a special occasion. I felt there was a bit of a communication gap on what I wanted the end product to look like. She did take the time to re-do the parts I wasn't happy with, but overall I felt like my natural curly hair, blown straight, was a bit lifeless, would have liked a bit more bounce (though not full body). Let me tell you, I'm obsessive about my hair and I really took time to carefully pick my stylist. After checking their website, I registered for a haircut with Lynzy. She was so so nice and welcoming. She took her time to explain everything from A-Z. I have thick, coarse and curly hair, which are hard to manage. But I left the salon with an amazing haircut and nice blow-out. I was under the impression that they use generous amount of products on your hair and the quality is top-notch ! The smell of those products are just divine. You can purchase most of the products inside. I purchased something by Lynzy's recommendation and can't wait to use it. Overall the ambiance of this place is amazing and definitely raised my mood. They also offer nail services, facials and they even do eyelash extensions. I already recommended this place to my friends and will be back myself too.

It was more expensive than a lot of the average salons, and the quality of the hair cutting was lower than some of the cheap Supercuts type stuff. I know that's not a ringing endorsement and it wasn't meant to be. It's in a pretty cool Plaza though. And this location is clearly better than the one in Williamsville which didn't do a good job with my hair at all. These people did. Or at least it was OK. OK enough for an OK three star rating. But not cheap enough for the standard I got. The only reason I bump up to 4 is because the last 2 people that cut my hair here (I can't remember my visits from over a decade ago but I remember those 2) were extremely friendly and one of them I still talk to.
