Blue Island has a law that if you visit town you have to come here. I'm not serious, but maybe it should be one. Natural Law is one of the better bars I would say, after checking out a few others in town. Has some very good drinks. The food not so much but it's edible mostly. Came in with my female friend. It always seems to have specials going on. We got the 10 ounce frozen machine drinks special. It's $5 every day. The one we got was the Malibu Berry, good stuff. It hardly tasted like there was alcohol. There was. As for food there's not much good. There's mostly typical greasy bar stuff. We had the Fry Basket. It's $3 so it's shit ass cheap. These weren't so terrible to be honest. Follow the saying of "you get what you pay for." In this case pay little and get something fairly okay. This place isn't like it's anything special but it will do if needing to get blitzed or if you're just watching people blitzing in a football game or whatever. read more

I would just like to mention that if you ID one person, you should definitely be consistent about it. I've never been carded there before until I decided it was a good idea for my husband and I to go for a date since we hadn't really been out. Me having lost my ID at the time, didn't think twice about it because Im almost 30 and have been there on numerous occasions and celebrations without being carded. We ended up leaving 30 min later because I couldn't drink and it ruined the mood. No hard feelings because I know it's literally your job to check ID. actually went down to Blue Island to visit another bar but upon arrival found it was closed. My friend and I ended up at the next closest bar which was Natural Law. This ended up being a happy accident and we had a great time and were taken of by a great staff. Great local spot that was cozy and had a great selection of local brews. This included one that had one of best names for a beer I've ever heard - MASSIVE POLITICAL CORRUPTION. These are the kinda bars in that make me homesick when I leave Chicago. New bar that just opened up down on Olde Western. It's another quality addition to a strip that already includes Blue Island Brewery, Rock Island Public House and Maple Tree Inn. They have pretty cheap drinks, they had hamm's for only $2 and all the other beers were reasonably priced, including some from Blue Island Brewery just across the street. They have a pretty good food menu for a bar, I just got the fried brussel sprouts, I liked them, they were big and you got a lot for $7. The bartenders were all very nice and the service was fast. Finally got to eat here on my day off and boy was I surprised. I've been hearing nothing but good things about the food from main chef Jaime Esparza, and they were all correct. Got the burger with fries. Some part of that burger had a hint of cinnamon to it... maybe the bun, maybe the burger (turns out it was the pickles!!)... either way, it never got to far and added to the total enjoyment of the burger. It was cooked a perfect medium rare, the fries are FRESH CUT I need to emphasize. Manzo's has been doing this and I cannot emphasize how important it is... This is my second visit to Natural Law. I thought my first visit one in the afternoon might have been a fluke. It wasn't The burger was properly cooked to order, well constructed and appetizingly presented by a super attentive bartender. If she doesn't have a piece of this rock, she should! My second visit was in the evening, on a busy Friday. I had a Cubano this time. The experience was identical. The true mark of a quality restaurant! Natural Law also has a symbiotic relationship with a brewery, Blue Island Brewing across the street. Natural Law is one of the best dive bars I've been too during this pandemic. Each and every one of the staff is so friendly, and you can tell they keep clean! I don't feel uncomfortable going here to have a drink and a nice bite. Moving on to the food, one word: DELICIOUS. My husband and I were at the Brewery across the street and decided to order delivery since we saw a bunch of others eating food from here and it looked delicious. I always get nervous about ordering out because I have a couple odd, severe food allergies. My husband called and asked them about my allergies to see if cross contamination would be an issue. Most places are understanding but still seem dismissive to the severity of the situation, so I always worry about ordering. Everyone at Natural Law took the extra time to confirm the ingredients of each sauce, etc. to make sure I would not be affected. They even went the extra mile where the chef called us back to make us aware that my husband's order may have been marinaded with ingredients I am allergic to, and gave him the option to change his order. Establishments like this make me feel not only safe, but comfortable eating out. I can not thank them enough. Additionally, our food was so incredibly fresh, flavorful, and speedy! read more

I'll cut to the chase - I love this place. Period. it was my first time at Natural Law. We came out to see an old friend play guitar from the 70's in our old neighborhood in Englewood. The brick facing and atmosphere are very cozy and welcoming. The bartenders are really on the ball, and the juke box satisfied my craving for punk rock after the entertainment left. Great selection of Clash & Sex Pistols on the jb. Little lantern candles on each table to light or not. I coaxed a gent at the bar to come over and light our fire with his lighter. The crowd is very diversified - nice mix of ages & cultures - always a plus. Nice place to hang a bar - right in the middle of old Western Ave. The area has evolved with the times, but the neighborhood is still the same. Lots of middle aged Bob Seger & Springsteen working class types drinking there, yet new aged millenials sitting right beside them. Even really old retired farts in their late 70's - everyone gathered around those beautiful big screen colored t.v.s. By the way, view of the Cubs game from the table was just like sitting behind home plate at Wrigley. Everything up close and personal - just the way I like to view my games. We ordered desert off the menu - the fried churros were awesome! Just the right lightness of being and a generous dusting of powdered sugar on them. Hats off to the owner of this place - she really "gets" the whole concept of creating an atmosphere where people want to escape to - a home away from home, but surrounded by 100 of your best buds. You can learn a lot about people and the world from anyone seated at the bar. It's almost got a Jimmy's Woodlawn Taplike vibe about it, except it's old Western Ave and not Hyde Park. They had the worst Bloody Mary I've had in my life. By all agreed upon society, a Bloody Mary is vodka and spiced tomato juice. Instead I got tequila, Jim beam, vodka, and guiness. The whole thing was almost liquor before they poured in a little tomato mix. It was god awful, so I asked to have it replaced with vodka and tomato mix and instead got vodka and plain, very plain tomato juice. Tremendous thumbs down for that. read more
