Ghetto, Ghetto!! Ghetto!! Me and my 4 friends went to Ravens place after seeing an advertisement on Facebook. According to the ad the time was 4-10. We got there at 5 to locked doors. The tv and lights were in but no one in sight. We called, there was no answer. More people started coming, they finally opened the doors around 5:30ish. We had to go through a TSA security style pat down, id check, and purse search. At this point I'm wondering what clientele are they used to where a patron has to be subjected to such a violation. All we wanted were some drinks and appetizers. Once we get passed security check, there was no hostess to tell us where to go since ALL the seats were marked "Reserved" so we go to the upstairs bar, same thing ALL the seats were "Reserved". Now our frustration is beginning to turn into a " oh hell naw" moment. We ask the bartender who was a lovely lady what's the protocol. She said all seating was bottle service only and everyone else had to stand up. We asked how much, she didn't know. Someone finally came back and said... drumroll... $600-$700 a bottle. Get the heck out of here with that b.s.!!! Why on earth would anyone who's not a drug dealer pay $600/$700 a bottle for a something that retails $35. I try so hard to support black owned businesses but crap like this is why I take my business out of the community. Poor customer service, false advertising, unorganized, and bad attitudes. I understand the pandemic has the restaurant business cash strapped but to take advantage of patrons with some fake bougee crap is a stretch. We ended up at Bourbon St in Marionette Park where we paid $80 for a 5 drinks and 4 appetizers. I was denied entrance due to "dress code" I had heels on, yet if you looked through their glass window you would see guys in sneakers!

Drinks were good but unfortunately the place was empty on a Saturday 11pm. Needs to be promoted better.

Ya know....... I really wanted to like this place. I'd gone once earlier this year and had an "okay" time, I guess, but it wasn't a place I saw myself running back to. At all. Then someone I knew decided to have a party there, so back I went. First off, parking sucks, but whatever. Many night establishments have that issue. Just be careful walking around and whatnot in this area late at night, alone. Once I got inside, the trek up the stairs began. And they are STEEP! Definitely know which area you're supposed to be in because the staff really isn't helpful and the crowd isn't patient. It gets packed in here! Which goes to the bar, which is my next issue. I got two drinks and EACH time I got a drink, there was a wait of at least 25 mins. No order to the lines. Folks approach people in front of you and ask them to buy their drinks so they don't have to wait. The bartenders forget what you order and come back 5 mins later to get your request all over again. My long Island was almost 11 bucks. Highway robbery. This rotten egg smell drifted all through the place. It smelled like stink bombs I used in grammar school. I smelled it in random spots so idk if a farty fart person was just following me or if there was something wrong with the pipes. The smell got stuck in the back of my thoak. The kicker was the seating. They have these cool lil chairs with these cute lil legs...... but a lot of the chairs have one lil leg that's broke. *sigh* You can't tell unless you look before you sit. Most people didnt. I saw two tumbles, including one chick that was coming to talk to me about the fart smell. She hit the floor so hard that her glasses flew off of her face. Perhaps if you come for smaller events you won't have the trouble and hassle but um, I'm good. I ONLY gave them 2 stars because they have good fried chicken. read more

We had a birthday party paid $325 for part of the upstairs area and $240 for what they call food. We ordered spaghetti, dirty rice, chicken and dinner rolls. The rice and spaghetti was sooooo salty, no one could eat it. If you did find a fork or something to eat it with, you probably have high blood pressure this morning. They did not and would not give us plates, forks and napkins to eat the nasty sh-t. I would never pay for a party there again. This place is a hot mess!! NEVER AGAIN! I tried to go on Friday night. It was like Fort Knox. We were told to go to the side to get in. No one came for several minutes then the lady who did came said she couldn't let us in. It was a beauty shop or something. It was cold out!! Several minutes later they let us in to be patted down by security. That should have been the second sign to leave. We get through being patted and then they tell us a $20 cover charge!!! Um no. Raven's Place should be called Crow's Nest! I would NEVER and I mean NEVER step foot in this establishment again! I went here to meet up with friends...We had a ball!!! The drinks were good, the music was nice, the space was cool! However, the next day several of us that ran tabs also left with stolen identity! Have been looking for a new spot for a good cocktail after work and snack. Heard about the business from a friend, figured I'd try it. NO customer service! Walked in, a staff member was close to the door but didn't greet us or smile, maybe even sneered. Sat down at a table, as the bar was full. Visited about two weeks ago. Hip hop/r&b/house music. One of the bartenders rudely tried to place some strange guy at my table when my friend went to the bathroom. This chick actually brought his drink to my table and told him to sit down at our table and said to him: "they ain't buying drinks no way," referring to my friend and I who had two drinks each with different bartender. Apparently you have to keep drinking until you can drive home in order to continue sitting down at this place. Came to this establishment for a Halloween party, purchased a bottle and was sick as a dog the next day. What's crazy is everyone who sipped on this bottle Of D'usse was sick as a dog -- now being my age and drinking since 18 I've never seen the whole group throwing up off of one bottle shared equally amongst 5 people. Don't know what they did but the bottle girls didn't peel off the wrapper on the top. Sick as a dog. I've been several times and enjoyed myself each and every time. Of course the music is loud. Yes, they cater to househeads but switch up to tap into my love of rap or stepping music. I went last night to Raven's Place, I must say I was very excited to attend. My husband is always saying I never go out in the burbs or neighborhood because most of my work is downtown. Pros Great division of space, downstairs was for everyone Upstairs was for private birthday parties 2 rooms up there Clean and well appointed Cons Now I work in the hospitality industry so this was really shocking. Ordered a Margarita, they used improper shot glasses to pour your drinks they were smaller than typical ones use so you're not get correct pour into your drink. Never asked if I wanted salt, didn't garnish with a lime and it didn't taste good at all. Don't think that I'm tripping it was a good $8 drink, however it cost $12.75 in BLUE ISLAND, IL... On top of that only one server, no one cleaning your previous drink, average 20 minutes to or a drink. Now if you want to have downtown Chicago prices, back it up in service. I was told they just went up on drinks. Food service was worst you had to walk up to the bar (which you had to wait another 20 minutes) to order. Cooked in dirty grease as you can smell it as they bring the food. Music Decent...however they don't mix it up. A great DJ plays a person's jam once every three to four songs. Their is no rotation....seriously it was house 30 minutes, rap 30 minutes, stepping 30 minutes, r&b 30 minutes...Never mixing. I could have let them use my Pandora and it would have did a better job. Needless to say, I was happy to find a clean place that catered to the 30 and over crowd but the pricing and service levels I won't be back especially when you're the same as Downtown which my drink is .75 cheaper. Ravens Place is the most disrespectful club I have EVER been too.They need New Manager and Security Personnel.Me and my girlfriend went to Ravens Place to party with some of my girlfriends Co-Workers.Now I've been there before and I wore gym shoes there before.Now as we're about to go in we notice several other people going in with gym shoes on....now as we're about to go in the security guy at the door(who also has gym shoes on) stops me at the door and says... you can't come in with gym shoes on. I asked the security guy why I can't come in with gym shoes on but the person you let in ahead of me has on gym shoes.He tells us that those were American shoes and I had on black Jordan shoes.Me and my girlfriend looked at him like WHAT!!! So to make matters worse....as we look inside the club other people have on gym shoes as well.Now I say to the security guy...hey they all have gym shoes on inside your club...why do they get to come in and not ME!!! The security guy tells me....they got in before I got here,so I can't do nothing about that. I said WHAT!!! That does make any sense. I then asked to speak to a manager.The security guy had the nerve to get mad at me because I asked to speak to a manager.Now as I'm outside waiting to speak to a Manager a couple of more guys come in with gym shoes on.I ask a different security guy(who also had gym shoes on)why do they get to come in with gym shoes on and not ME!!! The 2nd security guy tells me that they were there earlier that night and as long as you come in before 9 o'clock on Saturdays you can wear gym shoes.I ask them where does that say that at,because there is NO sign or anything saying any of that.The security guy says...well that's are policy.Now the Manager(Yeah he has gym shoes on too) come over to talk to me.I explain to him how the security guy at the door stopped me from coming in with gym shoes,but I see people in his club with gym shoes on as well as people coming in the club while I'm standing at the door with gym shoes on.The Manager tells me that the security guys are right and that if you were in the club before 9 o'clock with gym shoes on you can come back in the club with gym shoes on.That's our POLICY!! I asked the Manager why is there no sign at the door letting people know your policy on Saturdays.The Manager says to me...we don't need a sign! Sorry this story is so long,but this is what happened. I had my wife's retirement party there last night, we were given only an hour to set up, but management was thirty minutes late opening the room we reserved, the caterer we were told we could only use at their establishment, mel's catering, stood us up literally the day of, I was forced to buy pizza at the last minute for my guests, then were ordered by management to remove the food from their establishment, even though I seen the people eating ordered pizza in other areas of the establishment, then had the audacity to try and sell us their food from a kitchen I was originally told wasn't going to be available for my event! The first time I went to Ravens Place it was for a private party upstairs. It was a nice time, 30 and up crowd real grown and sexy. I had my sisters birthday party here recently and the staff was extremely helpful (ask for Sharhonda). When we arrived our table was all set up and the DJ played old school and new school music. If you are in a chilled mood and don't want the hassle of a an extremely crowded sweaty hood club this is the place to be. The age restriction definitely makes this a go to spot. I was invited to attend a private birthday party. The stated time was 8:00 pm to 1:30 am. We arrived at approx. 8:45 pm. No security personnel present. We had to enter through the bar and be directed to stairs and walk up 3 flights to venue. Uninvited people just walked in and took seats even after being told it was A Private Party". Security had to be called. The in house catering service was awful. Food in aluminum pans with nothing to keep food warm. No serving utensils or napkins (had to get napkins from the bar). Chicken, fish and spaghetti was too salty. One security staff member was rude and unprofessional. Music was too loud. I would not recommend. read more

I thought I had added an update or addendum... I stated in the original review of this place that I reserve the right to add some things as I was trying to protect certain identities , genders and other possible things I did not want to discuss. Well I will add that the relative I brought to the bar was already buzzed or was not in a condition to drive to the bar. I really did not want to go to any bar but reluctantly took the relative there. Also some other relatives (one of which who had insulted me via text & I felt intimidated by this person as well) there at this event worked with some police in the past and may have have had guns on them or it was a possibility, though I am not sure. All of this in or on my mind made me all the more uncomfortable and adding to my nervousness with being in this neighborhood and this situation (even with relatives ) I really did not want to go to in the first place! The relative I brought had threatened to take some ride sharing service to the place in effort to make me feel guilty as the person really wanted to go to it when I had other plans to go somewhere else where I would feel safer than in a bar with people potentially getting drunk. There are better things to do in life. Even before coming to this bar, the relative I brought had erroneous information of another bar we or he thought the event would be in Calumet Park. That place seemed dangerous too and I felt this relative put me in danger or harm's way there and here. The relative was or seemed clueless to any of the situations or my concerns from the start showing some level of irresponsibility of putting me in situations I felt uncomfortable (being at bars). I just know I will NEVER do this again. With the advent of these shootings in bars, nightclubs in the south suburbs, I think this information could be pertinent. I was once a regular here and tipped well, mostly because it is black owned and I like to support. But it also offered something that I hadn't received in a while... Classy.. Good crowd... When myself and a friend decided to break away on a Thursday evening, I immediately suggested Ravens! When we arrived...no one was there (literally), which was perfect. The bartender (specifically the one with the short cropped platinum blonde hair) was sitting at the end of the bar eating chicken, and said we need to show I'd... which was fine... We felt flattered. But she didn't move and continued to eat her chicken. We gathered that we needed to walk down to her... So we did... She quizzed us...we passed... then went back to our seats. We ordered... I ordered a dark rum and diet coke. She went back a forth with me about how my diet coke defeats the purpose when mixing with a dark rum(despite the fact of me telling her that I don't care about caloric intake... It's about taste.... Anyway..soon after getting my drink ..a crowd of people came in(none of which she requested an ID). who were obviously her regulars(which is probably why they weren't carded, but shouldn't this be about uniformity?). About 10+ people. She livened up! She started catering to them.... I finished my drink ..pushed the glass away from me...waiting for her to approach to offer another drink... Never happened. The bar was not crowded.... At all...but she asked her regulars to the right of us...to the left of us... right behind us if they were Ok and/or needed anything...ate her chicken.. .but never approached us. I literally stared a hole into her face while she ate and catered.... She never once approached us....I thought we were invisible... UNTIL a few more of her favorites walked in and she told us, "y'all gotta play musical chairs. Move down!(to accommodate her regulars).. I was disgusted. Really? I went to this spot with my friend one Saturday night. Its a nice spot that has quite a bit of space. It has a downstairs, upstairs, some back rooms that you can rent out for parties as well as a rooftop area. The drinks were really good and resonably priced. Nice location and nice set up, However I gave my husband a party there this past Saturday. My rating/review is customer service/communication is horrible. We booked our party in August and was giving the location we would be able to set at. The information we was provided by Sylvia was that we would have the table in front of dance floor area. The rules and policies from day one of booking was inconsistent. For one, I was told there was a kitchen with a caterer that provided a wide selection of menu selection such as jerk chicken, rib tips, mix chicken baked or fried etc. This changed and we was not informed immediately or given a option to change our location. The rule then changed to u must order there meats chicken wings and fish only and u can bring in your own sides. The rule to upstairs changed after we booked our party and no one informed us on that. Then the day of the event I went early to set up at the front location to find out, we were moved to the side aisle were all the thru traffic goes. we requested (2) BARTENDERS JUSTIN/THERESA AND THEY WERE NEVER ABLE TO SERVE US.. We brought in over 50 plus people to this location and the rest were standing in line for over 30 minutes and couldn't get in cause it was so crowded. It took over 40 minutes for the one bartender Patty to bring my guest there drinks. No one communicated to my guest that if they leave out for air and/or a smoke they couldn't get back in... Was told 30 and up crowd but, then they let in 25 and up! Some of my guest came from kankakee and couldn't get in cause they took forever opening up the upstairs. I had a schedule form my chicken and fish to come out that we paid for in advance and that was over 30 minutes late... My crowd is a group of professional hard working people who came out to enjoy food, music, drinks etc. Customer Service/ Professionalism is everything. I patronized this venue on Saturday, October 27, 2012 for a friend's birthday party! When I arrived about 9:30 pm I was really amazed how nice the venue was but that quickly changed. Around or between 10:30 - 11:00 pm I noticed it was getting very crowded in the place from the door to the stairs and their were people standing in line outside waiting to get in...they were at room capacity! Next, the bar area and wait staff was slow and the drinks were over priced... I was charged an outrageous price for a watered down watermelon martini and two other friends ordered the same drink and all 3 looked different. Next, walking room was not available, it was so many people in this venue that it was hard to know who was there for a birthday party because we found out that there were a total of 4 parties going on at once. This was funny because I actually found out the reserved space we were initially told we were going to be at was moved twice prior to the guests arriving. Last be certainly not least, security, management and wait staff were the poorest I ever seen. Waiting 30 minutes for drinks, forgot the order, don't come with the right order, wait ten minutes at the bar for water, and had to wait for food and a garbage can for disposal for the garbage from guests eating took a long time to come. Clean up for removing drinks off the tables took a long time and guests who went out to smoke were told they could not come back in once they left. All this was too much for one night. The entire experience was something out of a reality show prank but it wasn't funny! I thought I would return one day but I think I will really think twice about coming on a Saturday for a special event, maybe a weekday would be better (or not!!!!) I almost forgot, parking!!! It really sucked! I really didn't like the fact I had to find parking on a residential street because the street was torn up with repairs, the parking lot was full and there was not many places to park. I really apologize to the residents of Blue Island with whom I took their parking space in front of their home to go to this venue. I've been there had a good time. Had a retirement party there for a friend/ co-worker. The food was tasty, not bad. Everyone had a good time. The place is kept up very well. Black owned, I've been there for other functions also, frat parties, etc. not to mention I deliver their mail there, I'm their mail carrier. The owner is very professional and nice. The décor for this place is really cool and it's nice to have a venue like Raven's in the area. However, the music is crazy loud. You have to yell if you want to have a conversation. I was surprised at how loud it was considering that they have a 30 &over age limit. Also, for a Blue Island venue the prices for drinks are pretty high. The venue is not located in downtown Chicago, so please don't charge me downtown prices for my drinks. Also, I called to get information and the person who answered was not friendly and was very vague with details.
