This is my little spot in the hood with good vibes and good drinks that won't break your pockets. It's a small place so don't wait all night on weekends. The older crowds leave around 9-10 on weekends and then the youngins take over . Nice spot. No kitchen though. read more

I visited this lounge for a birthday party on Friday, August 23, 2024. The bartenders were price gouging. Let me explain this...I purchased a daiquiri in a 12 oz. cup for $14. In my opinion, the price was a bit expensive seeing that it came out of a machine, and it wasn't manual prepared. One might ask, what's wrong with price? And my answer is...the prices were not consistent. I was charged $14; the uncle was charged $15; the close friend was charged two different prices due to purchasing about an hour or so apart. Both drinks were purchased by the same bartender at different time from the same bartender. Her first price was $22 and the second time she purchased it was $16. I asked two other customers about their price of daiquiri, and I was informed after inquiring she paid only $7 but gave a $2 tip. And they were probably charged that price because "they're regulars." I was simply baffled thinking why are the prices different. After realizing that the prices are different, we spoke to the owner. He was too defensive because opposed to him listening to our concerns with his heart, he chose to listen with his head. He called me aggressive because I shared my experience and compared his establishment with another establishment. I was simply giving him an example about what consistency looks like. Too often when you call folks out about their bad practice, their defense is to retaliate by using words they don't know the definition of...I was not aggressive; I was assertive, confident, self-assured etc., I was simply passion about standing up for what's right and if it means calling out your bartenders so be it. As a consumer, a business should NEVER deny customers a receipt when making a purchase and I believe making that statement angered the owner. If you don't change the practice of Black Cat, your bartenders will cause your establishment to go out of business and closed down AGAIN. Needlessly to say, it was my first and last visit at this place. Get it together! Nice tavern off of I-57 on 115th st. Been here a couple of times as my close buddies love this place. Prices aren't bad in terms of drinks and beer and I think you can bring food in from other places such as I-57 ribs across the street. I have literally been at the Black Cat for drinks for the last 5 weeks straight. One of my friends is the bartender there, and makes the world's greatest drinks, for which I don't have to lug my South Side ass all the way downtown and pay for parking. That alone would give the Black Cat 4 stars, but I'm also a fan of the crowd. It's a 35 and older crowd, and although I'm only 29, I much prefer the laid back setting of this place as opposed to some of the more trendy spots where you can't hear your conversation. When I go for a drink, I'm going to have a drink. I don't want to be hit on by some little boy or have to dress like I'm going on the stroll. I want to put on some jeans and enjoy my drink of choice. This is the perfect place for that, and I would recommend it to anyone. read more

I wish I could give this zero stars. If you are looking for a nice bar to hanging out in please shop around. This place is small and has no updates. Most importantly, the security scans the barcode on the back of your I.D card without giving you notice when you enter bar. All of your personal information is stored into the device for months. Tonight me and a friend decided on this place and what a disappointment. The bar on both ends was messy, even the floor. I did see a male employee making an effort, as he was picking napkins off the floor and bringing empty glasses to the bar. The glasses just stayed on the bar...eww. I saw a fly sitting on the bar which really grossed me out. Not to mention this guy or staff member was sleeping at the bar, I mean literally, head down, arm strength out. By then I was ready to leave. It all ended after my friend payed for her food, asked for the receipt, was then told they use Paypal which she wasn't able get a receipt. WTH!! I have never heard of not receiving proof of purchase. The waitress should of informed her upfront. My friend requested to have it written out and to speak with the manager. Whose to say what was charge.? Long story short, if you come to this place and use a credit card for food, beware they don't give receipt. Do not go here if you're ready to get body slammed by security for no reason!!!!!!! I went here one day last weekend with a few of my ppl. We "assumed" it would be a decent place to go. Boy was I wrong. We came late and they were about to close but we didn't know. So we only spent abt 30-45 min there. They pat you down but clearly they let their "boys" inside with guns. Because I saw a guy with a gun on his hip that he didn't hide well obviously.  I was ready to leave then.   Let's just say when it was time to go there was a very inebriated man there that the bartender clearly over served.  So as people are leaving the young man could barely walk and fell to the floor.  The security guard picked the guy up and walked out w/him to the middle of the lot and dropped him on the ground making him hit his head... talking about something like (not verbatim) i don't play that. It was An uproar after that.  The guy tries to get up.  The guy's brother comes out tries to help his brother and another security blocked him and then the same grimey bouncer (security guard) then picks the guy he just threw to the groud up again and (fyi the victim is small frame) takes him off the property to the corner of the alley and body slammed the guy. Yall I was in shock!!!!!.  A lot of us in the lot started yelling and screaming.  But i was scared that ppl would start shooting knowing i had seen a guy w/a gun right b4 i left. So my cousin were like let's go.   I really hope they get sued. It was truly horrible the way that bouncer treated that man. Lastly I didn't know they scan ids until it happened. I would not have gone in. I'm like what yah do with my information. Cause if anything happens I know where I'm coming. I have tried this lounge several times (4-5), hoping it would get better because it has so much promise. But, every time I visit, something's not quite right. The crowd is usually decent, except that one time where it seemed like amateur night at Magic City. However, the crowd really isn't as friendly or social as other lounges. The vibe is off. One of the bartenders is inattentive until she decides to send the bouncer over to make you buy drinks. Maybe you should say hello and ask if I'd like a drink, instead of telling me I have to buy one. Some of the others are friendly but seem overly focused on the regulars. The positive is that the music is consistently good! I've never been there and not enjoyed the music although the vibe usually leads me to go elsewhere within an hour. The bouncers are also friendly which is nice. I met the owner once (outside of the lounge) and he is cool, so I will give it yet another try because I like to support/hangout at local lounges. But, it's getting tiring trying to like this place. read more
