They were only €2 each, which seems amazing really. They were both fruit-nut combinations - one had plums on top while the other had rhubarb and the nuts were pistachio and almond. Both were delicious and I have to say I preferred them to the tart I tried from the Queen of Tarts in Dublin a few days later. Heaven's cakes tarts and pastries are a little more rustic looking but I actually prefer them that way. I'm also giving them 4/5 "green stars" for social and environmental impact. Here are some pros and cons: Pro: *You're supporting an independent, family-run business. *They provide a simple paper bag (preferable to boxes with plastic windows). *They appear to support community events like a healthy eating day at a local school Cons: *I don't know much about their ingredients - would be nice to know a few things, e.g., are eggs free range? Service is always good and, while the wrapping may not be quite up to the French standard, it is not far off it and, in any case, is totally adequate. Web is www. We spent 3 days in Jo's room in Kinsale and loved her hospitality. The rooms are not 5 star but are well appointed and have everything you need. Jo's food is just awesome. You need to stop for breakfast or lunch no matter where you stay in Kinsale. We will defiantly be back our next time in Ireland.

This is truly a reader's dream place. The fare is minimal but fresh and delicious from the bits we tried. This brings me to the hot chocolate. Hubby had the tall mug of steaming milk placed in front of him with an enormous block of chocolate on a stick - like a huge square lollipop. The idea was to stick it in the milk and stir until melted. There was a choice of white, milk or dark if I remember correctly (definitely more than just the white chocolate option). He absolutely LOVED it and declared it to be the best he had ever had - check out the photos. The ONLY reason they didn't get a 5 star was due to the lack of seating. We had to wait a while to get a seat and I'm not sure what they could do about that, but if you only have a limited amount of time in Kinsale, you may just want to pop your head in first to see if there is anything available.

Everyone else opted for the barista's favorite: some berry cobbler bar. The next morning, all their pastry bags were dripping with butter/oil. I don't think anyone had more than half their bar - everyone commented it was quite heavy and had wished they had went with another option. All in all - it got the job done: we were fed and ready to hit the road for another day of exploring the countryside. But, next time we may opt for another place to pick up selections if we find ourselves in town again.

Because during my very first visit to Kinsale, my family and I were enjoying the shops in town and I forgot my coffee cup in a bookstore we visited. Instead of us all walking back to get it, my husband said he would make the trek. So in the interim, my two young children and I spotted a bench outside OHK. I didn't want them walking near the narrow roads, and there were no customers in sight, so we sat on the bench until my husband came back. While sitting there, the owner or manager popped her head out the window to let us know, in a very passive aggressive manner, that the bench was for customers only. I have never felt more unwelcome or treated so rudely by any establishment in all my life. I was excited to try their food, but I will never give them my business because of this interaction.

There is free wifi. We ordered a blueberry muffin, a lemon muffin, an orange cake and a latte. The pastries were amazing. There was a lemon custard in the center of the lemon and a creme frosting in the blueberry. The orange cake was tasty as well.
