This is truly a reader's dream place. The fare is minimal but fresh and delicious from the bits we tried. This brings me to the hot chocolate. Hubby had the tall mug of steaming milk placed in front of him with an enormous block of chocolate on a stick - like a huge square lollipop. The idea was to stick it in the milk and stir until melted. There was a choice of white, milk or dark if I remember correctly (definitely more than just the white chocolate option). He absolutely LOVED it and declared it to be the best he had ever had - check out the photos. The ONLY reason they didn't get a 5 star was due to the lack of seating. We had to wait a while to get a seat and I'm not sure what they could do about that, but if you only have a limited amount of time in Kinsale, you may just want to pop your head in first to see if there is anything available.

She was a bit in the curt side- but was kind in switching a few tarts to bars and made an espresso for my guy. Prices were a bit high, as to be expected in a town like this. the next morning we woke to try our selections. My scone had raisins (I would have preferred cranberries) and was quite dry and bland, even for a "day old" bite. It tasted basically like flour and some raisins from time to time. Everyone else opted for the barista's favorite: some berry cobbler bar. The next morning, all their pastry bags were dripping with butter/oil. I don't think anyone had more than half their bar - everyone commented it was quite heavy and had wished they had went with another option. All in all - it got the job done: we were fed and ready to hit the road for another day of exploring the countryside. But, next time we may opt for another place to pick up selections if we find ourselves in town again.

Don't expect a big fancy menu, as the options are limited yet delicious, with some very interesting veggie-friendly options. ;) I don't quite know how often they change the lunch menu, but the existence of a daily special implies that there must be some new interesting new dishes to try every so often. A mistake I did and should prevent you from doing: save space for the post-meal coffee! They are delicious. Try the Viennese coffee - espresso topped with whipped cream! Nomnomnom. The big downside is that they don't accept cards, only cash - so make sure to pass by an ATM before coming here. I know, I know, that's bad. a minute ago New I…read moredidn't get a chance to try the food and I never will. Why? Because during my very first visit to Kinsale, my family and I were enjoying the shops in town and I forgot my coffee cup in a bookstore we visited. Instead of us all walking back to get it, my husband said he would make the trek. So in the interim, my two young children and I spotted a bench outside OHK. I didn't want them walking near the narrow roads, and there were no customers in sight, so we sat on the bench until my husband came back. While sitting there, the owner or manager popped her head out the window to let us know, in a very passive aggressive manner, that the bench was for customers only. I have never felt more unwelcome or treated so rudely by any establishment in all my life. I was excited to try their food, but I will never give them my business because of this interaction.

We stumbled in to the Bookshelf as it looks like a little cafe, with lots of people popping in for coffee to go, but a few tables for diners. The line moved fast, and we ordered a ham and cheese sandwich, broccoli sweet potato soup, and a sausage roll. The service was fast and we received our food pretty quickly after sitting down. The cafe interior is pretty small and tight, and has one bathroom which opens out into the queue for the counter. It was really cold in there, not comfortable for a long lazy lunch - better for a quick bite-and-go. The food is good.

It was so colorful because all the shops and cafes were painted different colors. Our favorite place in Kinsale was the Milk Market Cafe. We enjoyed their outdoor seating on a pedestrian street. Another traveler in our group recommended the Apple Cake. It was divine! The apple slices were cut very thin and it was topped with delightful crunchies. The crust was light and soft. The apple cake was like a wonderful tart and was served warm with a scoop of home-made vanilla ice cream...oh my! It was SO good! Eating it on the outdoor seating, on a perfect 70 degree sunny day, was equally delightful. Don't miss the little shops nearby and definitely dont miss the Apple Cake at "Milk Market Cafe" in Kinsale!

When I was seated my server was friendly and promptly took my order. Then the wait began. 30 minutes, one hour, and then an hour and 30 minutes. I was tryiny to be patient as I noticed no one was getting their food. I figured maybe the kitchen was really backed up. It was then I saw patrons who had been seated after I had been getting their food. My server then came up to be and apologetically said they had forgotten to put my order in. I was tempted to wait longer but was incredibly hungry by this point. I went to the front desk, explained the situation, and asked to pay for my cider and go. The woman there sighed and told me to "just go" no apology, no semblance of professionalism just irritation. I have tried several times to go back but unfortunately have been met with the same dismissive attitude. Overall, it's a no for me.
