We used Natural Bottoms with our second daughter who was 14 months when we arrived in Cleveland. We had done cloth with our first as well, and started our second in cloth where we lived previously in Pittsburgh, PA. NB did a great job on many fronts: communication, cost, ease of scheduling pick-ups and drop offs and overall quality and cleanliness of diapers. We are now expecting daughter number three coming in November and will definitely be calling Michelle soon to set up our service.
Aside from NB, cloth diapering is AMAZING but it is important to do your research before starting, as I feel the other reviewer made some fatal mistakes in her fore into cloth. First - with prefolds, which is what most services provide, be sure you practice the fold a few times with a doll or stuffed animal as you don't want to be securing a cloth diaper for the first time on a squirming newborn. (no, no pins involved anymore, snappis are quick and easy, but still have a learning curve.) This lets you get the hand motions down (which are very easy, btw) before adding the movement of an actual baby. Second - containment systems for the dirty diapers are different from disposable, but do NOT need to be kept in the garage due to smell. For both our two girls we kept a weeks worth of diapers right in an airtight stainless steel can in their bedrooms with no issue. (We used the VIP can, which is pricey, but totally worth it for the smell containment.) Third - any new system will require adjustments to what you're used to. Carrying around a wet bag to keep used diapers in is certainly different than just chucking the disposable in the trash, but like anything, you develop a system that works for you. Finally, I think the most important thing for us was to realize that while the simplicity of disposables is appealing, it just isn't worth the environmental impact, or the health impact on our kids (look into how many chemicals are in those disposables so that they feel "dry" all the time.) Cloth isn't going to work for everyone, but take the time to know why you've made the choice to use whatever type of diapers you choose, including disposables. Nothing comes without a cost.
