I made the mistake and trusted this place with my beloved jacket that I got coupe of years ago from Banana republic. A very high end, good gray velvet jacket which is loved wearing.
I used the Forest hills dry cleaners before and I decided to give a chance to this one because they are literally two blocks from me, it's convenient.
Oh, boy, this convenience cost me my blazer.
I gave it for dry clean almost a month ago. It came back stained with purple shade on the front and back of upper blazer . The buttons are not near, the deodorant, the first assumption by the lady at the front. The armpits were stained too, but if it was the deodorant it should have been evenly stained. It was only on the upper left side.
She was nice this time and said let us see if we can take it off. It's been a month and I didn't hear from her. So I passed by. She said they'll offer 40% of its value. Than she asked for a receipt. Seriously, you want a receipt for an item I wore two three years ago? I said I will need to buy a new one and it should be a good enough price to allow me that. Than I mentioned that I dry-cleaned it in another place (Forest hills Benjamin's!) and she said show me a proof you cleaned it elsewhere. Really?? Than she started screaming at me bc I am mot "nice to her". Really? Asking to be compensated so I can go and get a replacement. And than she pointed to a sign stating they're not responsible for any fading etc. well, I argued this is mot fading. It's a full blown new color on my grey blazer.
I showed her a currently on sale believer blazer in banana republic. Original price was $280. She said it's mot the same blazer. Really?? You want me to find the very same blazer today?! Than I asked how much she will offer. She offered $100 and said it's "more than 40% "of the $300. I have to admit I didn't even stop and check, my mom, the math teacher for elementary kids is turning in her grave. Than she wanted me to be back another day to actually get the money. So she Wasnt going to pay me today. She is probably mot the owner even though she claimed her name was Natalie (notice the name of the business). So when I pointed and asked if Nat is short for Natalie she said "you tell me". I'm counting the great attitude. So we made an appointment in few days to take the payment. Then I stepped out to realize my math.
Bottom line, dear neighbored, go to Benjamin's in Forest Hills instead. I've done serious job with him before including re-lining of a leather jacket that came back perfect! And I never had this blazer come back stained except behind the brass buttons that you barely notice.
I came back a week later as agreed, only to find out the only one there was the tailor, Natalie demanded he'll be present. The poor guy, his English is more broken than my Spanish (and I barely know few words). I asked him to call the boss and guess whose face appeared in the screen. The moment she saw me on her screen, she hanged up.
There was an envelope with $100 cash and my blazer awaiting for me. Since there was no one of authority to talk to, I took my money, my blazer and left. So it seems she is the boss and she could give me the cash last week, but rather she had to make me stop-by the following week. Games ppl play. I leave close by and that's my way home so no buggy.
While I was waiting, there were two ladies who waited to pick up a coat the "tailor" couldn't find. While he was looking, one of the told me they had an issue with them before as the left a sweater in the pst only to revive it back as stinky from sweat as they left it.
If you read my reviews here you know I a big supporter of my local small business. But there's a limit for everything.
I will never be back here! Convenience cost me too much. No more! read more
