This is a great hangout spot for friends and family to relax and enjoy some beer. This place is situated in downtown Santa Ana right on 4th street near Playground and the 4th street market. The place can be a little tricky to find if one has never been here before. It's located on the second floor above a taco shop. What is great is the view here. It's overlooking 4th street and is a nice spot to people watch. What is even better is the beer. This is one of the few places in the area that serves pitchers. A group of friends can easily split a pitcher, or few. They have a great selection of beer, with a good variety that is sure to make anyone happy. From IPAs to stouts to sours, this place has a good amount of beer types. This spot is a favorite that I will keep coming back to. read more

They decided to associate themselves with the dumpster fire at modern times and offer pickups for members at this location. Apparently they have a rule which they keep to themselves that they stop allowing pickups at 8pm. So of course when I drive 50 minutes out of my way to go pickup at 8:30 I can't get my beer. Since this is the last day I could pickup during the pickup window I now have the pleasure of having to drive down to San Diego to pickup my own beer because it is being sent there. All because you don't want to take the time to grab it. Congrats to you for following the letter of the law at Native Son. Tip: just grab my beer from the back dude. You went back there to ask about pickups anyway. Arbitrary rules are a quick way to lose customers. read more

Not really sure what the attitude from the bouncers were about but if you post that you're opening at 3pm every Monday and a person walks in at 3pm, don't need to say "now you know" loudly that they're closing early for Memorial Day as they were apparently open early for a barbecue (with zero advertisement online or even a sign outside). Extremely rude and aggressive out of nowhere and came off as the bouncers were intoxicated. Zero plans to come back. read more

Wonderful low key rooftop bar with great offerings- We loved the coffee stout & the fact that everything is on the affordable side of the price scale. Great views & ambiance. Just came here for beers from the bar. Asked for the receipt and there was a 10 percent service fee included. We did not see the fee clearly listed on menus or a sign. The bartender told us just sign on the payment pad, but the pad already had 18 percent selected for the tip. 28 percent on top of the bill for beers we picked up ourselves from the bar. read more

Last weekend we made an online reservation for brunch and a pour of the Russian River Piney. The earliest reservation time available was for 2:45 and it was no problem because we saved our appetites in the hopes of having a tasty brunch. We arrived a little early and they didn't look too busy but apparently were understaffed. A hostess/server asked if we had a reservation and then told us they would get a table ready for us. We waited a little bit and were seated along with another 3 parties that came in after us. As hungry as we were, we patiently waited as we watched the other parties that arrived after us received attention as we sat in anticipation. When our server came to the table and we wanted to order brunch, we were notified that brunch ended at 2:00. Not sure how or why we made a brunch reservation for 2:45 when it's not even an option. I wasn't in the mood for a burger so it may have colored my perception because I found the spicy burger to be pretty bland and I didn't even finish it. The fries were ok, yet not great by any means. Overall the "brunch" we reserved was mediocre at best. read more

My husband and I came here on a whim while waiting for an appointment. We shared the deviled eggs and build your own toast. Everything was delicious! The Michelada was just okay but I'm also super picky with my Micheladas. We will definitely be back for the bottomless mimosas! They have indoor and outdoor seating with heaters. This is becoming one of my favorite go-to bars. They have an amazing beer selection and their breakfast/brunch menu is pretty good too. I especially love the sour beers they get. Being located on a rooftop also just makes for a great location and ambience that should be especially nice on summer evening and nights. read more

My friends and I were enjoying dinner down the street and wanted to continue the night at Native Son Alehouse. We called to make sure they were open and double check their hours, but it seemed like their line was disconnected. We decided to just walk by since it was only a couple of blocks away. Native Son Alehouse is located on the 2nd story, in front of the parking garage on 4th street in Santa Ana (across from 4th street market). They have a large patio with seating and heaters. Native Son has a HUGE draft list and also serve bottled/can beers and wines. I was especially excited to see they offered bottles of Pliny the Elder and the Blind Pig. These beers are typically harder to find and so I was SOOO excited. They also had a variety of canned seltzers - I tried one that was capri sun flavored and it tasted just like pixie sticks! Their patio was full, but all the tables were socially distanced and everyone was required to wear a mask when not at their table. The line at the bar did get fairly long at one point, but it moved quickly. They also serve food and had a pretty large menu for an alehouse. Will definitely be back soon for some more good beer! read more

One of my favorite bars! Always good brews, good food, and good people. Perfect for a summer night hang! All the staff is awesome and super helpful. I was not here for very long and did not have too much of an opportunity to check out their food selection, but in terms of having an easygoing gathering spot for a group of friends to grab a drink I feel this place certainly can be a great destination. The location is neat because it is on the second floor of the structure and provides a nice view of a portion of Downtown Santa Ana. In the early weekend evening, there was not too many groups and we were able to find table seating for a party of 4. The beer selection seems decent, and we opted for some coffee stout and the group enjoyed the flavor and quality. The service was straightforward as we had some associates joke with us and was quick to help us with a pitcher of the stout as well as 4 pint glasses to share among the group. There was no weird pressure of having to refill or order another pitcher as we loitered for a bit at the table while deciding on the next location for drinks, so overall I would not mind returning here to catch up with some friends. read more

I've been coming here for years. It's changed a lot as far as cocktails being added. It used to just be a brewery. I've seen staff leave and new staff come in. The guys still got their stanky faces but the women are a little nicer. Food is still mediocre I wouldn't recommend it. Bartenders making the cocktails have a heavy hand. Prices have gone up. I paid almost $20 for a drink. You basically pay for the view a now gentrified downtown Santa Ana read more

We always come here when we're in Santa Ana. They have an upstairs patio with beautiful lights, live music on the weekends, and a deliciously long list of craft beer. I would definitely check them out on Thursdays. They normally have a brewery VS brewery night. read more

The fries here are soo good, their food in general is pretty good as well. I went on a Saturday night and wanted to especially thank my server, she had blonde hair and was super friendly. I also want to tell the manager that your other worker the brunette is rude and a b*tch. We sat down and the blonde took our order no problems and then the brunette comes over and rudely tells us we have to move for the dj... which we did. My question is what dj? We stayed for 2 hours and no dj showed up, she literally just kicked us out for no reason. Her attitude is just so ugly, I refused to order a drink from her. I really did love the blonde server she was so sweet and honestly so was everyone else except the brunette. read more

01/19/24 PLEASE DO NOT ARRIVE TO THIS BAR!!! IF YOURE PLANNING TO HAVE A GOOD TIME. I would like to start off that I have often been going to this bar since I turn 21 on 2021, I am now 24 years old, I never had problems with the workers till... This male or female filled tattoos on his or her arms brunette hair wearing glasses trying to impress his or her co-workers having a misbehavior attitude. I only had a few drinks he or she assume I was VERY DRUNK when he or she mention I was "yelling and falling over the place" when I wasn't. I have many witnesses to prove my point and couple friends asking for drinks for themselves and the bartender rejected them when they had no action to my association to myself. The majority of the bartenders were upset of his or her actions and were disturb of his or her decision. read more

If I could help it, I would give Native Son Bar -100 stars if I could. As a group of 3, we ordered wine and cocktails at the bar and the service was terrible for so many reasons. 1. They provided a sad sample as a taster while we noticed them giving proper pours to others. 2. They shifted us in our seating multiple times while we were at the bar. 3. They kept tracking us down for their menus when we walked away with them for a short bit. 4. The owner, Suki, was extremely rude and not service oriented. Solely due to the horrible customer experience, I will never be coming back. read more

I've been here multiple times and each time I like it more and more. The food is always a win (major plus being Celiac), the music is always good, and the staff are always fun.to interact with. This place is clean and the view is beautiful. I don't drink alcohol, but I've heard that their offerings are lit. Skye (I believe it was their name) was so very sweet and quick to make sure we were taken care of the last time I visited. I hope I get to see them when I visit this place again! read more

The bartenders here are so so nice and always make me and my friends feel welcome. I was lucky enough to stumble across this gem of the center of OC when they first opened - and I am proud to be a regular here. I don't know how to go somewhere else - because I feel like the staff are giant gems in this jewel of a spot. Winters is a curator of boozy information that has helped me learn about "gin" and "root beer whiskey" so I can sound like an adult-ish purveyor, when really I know close to nothing except being a willing student to his creations. Dan the Man and Jacob always see me raise my hand in the corner of the bar, like the student I am, and have been willing to fill in the blanks for me when I know I am of thirst, but do not have the words for what to order. Every person working in the well has treated me with kindness - they have taken the time to get to know me, and I will be forever appreciative of how they have taken care of me over the years. But the real joy has been the transformation that this spot has for building a community of people in Santa Ana for real recognizing real. I have been bringing my Dad with me to play pool for the past few years. Sometimes people ask me if he plays professionally, I am terrible, and my skill incline is slow, he is patient and plays with the same level craftiness that the staff offer the cocktails. My Dad is always stoked when we have time to go have a few hours of games at 616 - especially now that there are regulars on 4th street that are excited to see that he is there playing - and they rush to write their names on the chalkboard to challenge him - or beat him in a game they really earned the W. On lazy Sundays, I watch couples sit with their drink, listening to Jazz, and watching my Dad whoop my ass while making amazing shots. I am forever grateful to Memo who sometimes takes a break from his shift behind the bar to give my dad an actual challenge - which allows me the chance to watch my Dad enjoy fellowship around the table. Knowing the table was a relic of the bars former self, and knowing the history that this spot has in Santa Ana is a reminder that so much around us can change - but it is those moments of the crack of the rack, the cheer of getting the combo shot, and the shake of hands when it's over that shows that it's not just about the pool table - but about the energy of a place that is welcoming and curated by people who care about what they do - and care about who comes through their doors. We came with reservations on Saturday night before Mother's Day. The first thing I thought when I walked in was that there was a live band playing with bad speakers because the music was so loud. But when I saw there was no band, I thought maybe their speakers were broken because the music had that scratchiness to it. Then I realized it was a DJ spinning vinyls with foreign music from the 1950's with that scratchy vintage sound on full blast (think shrill trumpets and shrill voices.) Now don't get me wrong, the music was wonderful and very unique ( again, a lot of foreign songs) with a few I even knew...my husband and I loved most of the songs that were played. HOWEVER not when it's so loud that we can't even hear our own thoughts! I felt annoyed within the first 5 minutes of being seated when my family and I had to keep repeating ourselves, and my husband even went to check the rest of the place to see if it was any quieter anywhere else, but it was blaring music everywhere. I ended up ordering for my whole table of 8 people because we couldn't even hear each other over the music to make suggestions on what to order. My adult kids (all in their 20's) kept apologizing for recommending this place for my mother's day dinner. But oh my, the food was delicious---practically everything I ordered was amazing! OMG the hangar steak skewers, pork belly skewers, iberico pork secreto steak, little gem salad, and their bread with goatmilk -butter were my faves! We also had the short ribs and the pork fried rice with prawns but they were mid...nothing to write home about. This would've been a great place to come have a drink at the bar for happy hour or even late at night on a weekend since they open until 1am on thursday, friday, saturday... but don't come for dinner unless you bring earplugs and learn sign language or know how to read lips because there will be no conversations over dinner unless it's just to the person sitting next to you. Even so, I noticed the young couple next to us looking very annoyed-- they got up and left after quickly finishing up their one cocktail while the speakers blared out an instrumental piece of a girl moaning the whole time until she climaxed. Heck---I'll have whatever SHE'S having lol So plz keep the music down several notches until after 10pm, and let the rest of us enjoy our dinner so that we can sing praises on how delicious everything was. Until you do, I think I'll cross this place off my list for now and revisit again sometime in the FAR future.

She provided us a code and explained the time limit along with house rules. We were then told to knock on the door and proceed with the experience. Kudos to the owner as this is the only speakeasy in the OC that has a true speakeasy feel entrance. They had a gentleman open the peephole and ask for the entry code. Once we said the code we entered a really cool mine shaft area. The attention to detail was on point and I was impressed! We were then taken upstairs to a private bar where there are four tables of four so a max of 16. This makes sense as to why reservations are hard to come by. The only ding about seating is you are sat with strangers it is not a private table. Luckily we had a fun older couple at our table so it made the conversation more lively. Otherwise don't go here with an expectation of an intimate/ private date night. They also offer a limited food menu but looked very promising. However, we were here for a night cap so just dabbled in drinks. The bartender had a seasonal menu of 4 cocktails he created. He explained the drinks and then had us try each one with a straw. We then placed our order based on what we liked. He did say if we were not a fan he could create us our own personal cocktail as well. The old fashion he created was phenomenal! Overall, a cool little spot in the OC. Do wish they were open later as they do close at 11pm on Friday and Saturday.
