This is supposed to be a "transmission specialty" shop. I called to get an appointment to have them take a look at my transmission which seemed to start slipping between 3rd and 4th gears. They set me up with an appointment and when I asked a couple more questions re how quickly they could drop the trans and take a look at it they said, "oh we don't open up transmissions we just replace them ". What?? So what my appointment was apparently intended on their part was to test drive the truck and get a sense of what it is doing and if what it's doing requires actual REPAIR of the trans (you know how their ad says "transmission repair?), your ONLY solution at this business is to get a COMPLETE replacement of your transmission. What they do here is work with the bulk transmission rebuild shops like Jasper, etc who ship them a replacement trans which can be extremely costly, $3k to $4k or more depending on your vehicle - all this place does is remove your current and put a rebuild into it. They admitted they no longer staff ....you know ...TRANSMISSION REPAIR SPECIALISTS, who fix transmissions. Well guess what - there are at least ten or more other auto repair shops all around Flagstaff that do that exact same thing. Don't be fooled thinking you need this place because they have "transmission" in their name or you see "transmission repair" in the ad. They dont. Shop around to every auto shop in town and compare pricing, workmanship, etc. Sadly it seems Flagstaff no longer has a transmission specialist shop that can help repair, build, etc your trans - all you have available are trans replacement shops. read more

We were in town for our son's graduation from NAU and were having car issues. We first went to the Jeep dealer on Friday for help, but they were rude and too busy to give us the time of day. We stopped by Nationwide Transmission first thing on a Saturday morning and even though the owner, Adam, was busy, his team looked at our car. They diagnosed it, fixed it and got us back on the road. Highly recommend Nationwide Transmission, Adam and his team. They were patient, communicative, and very willing to help and even stay after hours to get the job done. They agreed to install an LKQ transmission I had purchased and was a warranty replacement. New tranny came with pan leak and they helped me fight with LKQ for a week to get it resolved. Will use again but advise to never purchase from Gearhead Engines or any distributor that uses LKQ rebuilds. read more

I was in a jam ... 1953 Chevrolet truck with 350 engine with fuel leak - ughh. Called in on a Saturday morning with a fuel line leak and Dale Pitcher ( Advisor ) said bring in right down and we will fit it in even know we are busy ... Showed up in 30 minutes and he and the technician ( Mike ) took a quick look and said give me until later in the afternoon to repair. Called back before lunch it was ready and repaired .. I really appreciate the way these guys operate , quick , efficient, fair prices-- and ( safety Covid 19 practices) . I highly recommend them-. Just as a reference I called 5 other service centers (Flagstaff ) and all said no , Closed or didn't answer and there posted hours on Yelp are inaccurate and out dated . Nationwide Trans is the way to go. I was traveling in 82' RV from CA when I started experiencing an intense grinding noise near Flag. I called nationwide transmission and they got us in the day of. Adam was super helpful, and their techs diagnosed our bad U Joints and Driveshaft Carrier bearing in right off the bat. They charged us a very fair price and were super honest. We ended up coming back to have a clutch a put in that wasn't overly necessary at the time, and they were honest enough to come out and say the clutch wasn't crucial and we could keep driving. I opted to have the work done because I'd rather have honest people get it done rather than drive the next 3000+ miles and have someone else be doing it. In the automotive industry, it's hit or miss finding quality mechanics that charge you the honest amount. Nationwide hits both quality and integrity. Had warning light for transmission come on in aa trip 400 mikes from home. Left car for a check of transmission fluid. Nationwide kept the car for almost 2 days, never checked the fluid, serviced it or did anything other than tell us we 'probably needed a new trans'. When asked when they might get to our car, the response was, 'not today, we're waiting on our transmission specialist to come in. We ended up taking the car to another mechanic in town who serviced the trans in an hour & sent us on our way. read more

I brought my truck in here for some minor transmission work. When I picked up my truck I was appalled because it's stunk like cigar or cigarette smoke. I opened the windows to allow it to air out overnight and that still didn't help. The owner wasn't in today but I'll be calling him tomorrow. Vacation was saved!! Me and my wife were visiting the Grand Canyon (6/28/2020) from California and were staying in Flagstaff (6 hours from home). My Challenger's coolant fan broke and punctured my radiator leaving us stuck without no way to put a band-aid and go home to repair it myself. I called about 8 different shops and half of them didn't even want to give me a rough estimate without towing the car in first. Dale by far had the best customer service and even though there was no matching radiator in town, including Dodge Dealership (on back order till July 22nd), they found someone in phoenix who had (01) matching radiator and replaced both items having us back on the road in a couple of days. very fair prices and i'm very grateful to be home. thank you guys!! read more

We were on the first day of a cross-country move when the clutch release bearing on the 1985 Toyota pickup we were driving gave out suddenly, around 1am, in a town 90 minutes east of Flagstaff. The next morning we called around looking for a shop who could take us in, and not expecting anything quick, seeing how busy most decent shops are nowadays. Adam picked up right away and told us to bring the truck by, saying he'd try and get it done by the weekend. (Every other shop in town gave us reluctant estimates of a week to a month before they could see us!) We picked up a clutch assembly in town and made it to the shop around 11 am. Adam greeted us and said that he might actually be able to get the truck done by the following morning. Having worked in a classic car shop briefly, I was told to only make predictions on when a customer's vehicle would be ready if you were fully prepared to meet that deadline, and given how busy the shop seemed I was a bit hesitant to believe him at first. But Adam and his co-mechanic, whose name I missed, both seemed incredibly competent and motivated, and by 1 pm the truck was up on a lift in the back. We decided to stick around in the outdoor waiting area rather than wander aimlessly with all our stuff, and within an hour the mechanic came out with our old release bearing; it wouldn't even spin, lol! He left a few minutes later to get the flywheel machined - I really appreciated that Adam knew these Toyota flywheels can be resurfaced rather than making us spring for a new one - and by just after 4 we were back on the road. I'm completely amazed by the level of service, care and attentiveness provided by the two mechanics here. They were not only so much faster and more thorough than I expected, but they also communicated with us consistently on the progress of the repair, were professional and friendly, and billed us a really fair price for the whole job. Adam is one of a kind! This shop looked at my problem, gave me an answer and then waived the diagnostic since the problem went past the scope of the available diagnostic tools. Scum of the earth! This is a tourist trap. Beware of the tow truck drivers taking you here. I broke down on the way to Vegas and they were no help at all. I am extremely mechanically inclined so it surprised me that I had to diagnose my car myself. The wannabe mechanic tried to tell me it was the timing belt. No, I just changed that. Oh it's the sensor. No, they all work fine. Ok it's the oil. Nope just changed it! Why don't you jump it off and start with how the engine sounds. Oh duh! He jumps it off to hear the engine knocking. He said it will be $3000 to fix or I'll buy it for $200!!!!! What a joke. So we leave in a taxi to salvage what is left of our vacation and head for a rental car. We get the rental head back to the shop to make a plan with the owner. He said he would wave the diagnostic fee($50) and the storage fee($20 a day) if we decided to sell to him for $200. So of course I have no choice but to sell the car to the asshole owner for $200 but it gets better. I sent the tittle and he says we can only send you $100 as the storage fee is now $100. So I sold my car for $100 on my birthday. Now I'm home with no car and no money. Happy Birthday too me read more

When my sisters car broke down 37 miles outside of Flagstaff, I was in San Diego and could not do much to help. I located nationwide transmission as a referral from AAA. These guys are heroes in my book. Al got straight into his truck and got to my sister and towed her car to their shop. Dale and Al made sure that my sister found a safe motel to stay out while they looked at her car. As we suspected her tranny was bad but it is repairable. DO NOT TRUST THIS SHOP!! On Oct 5th 2012 my family & I were heading up from Phoenix to go camping. On the way up there our transmission overheated. It was a Friday so the tow truck driver brought us to the only 7 day a week shop that he knew of. We were hoping we could still salvage our family vacation. The next morning they said that the transmission was blown and not drivable and charged us $50 to tell us that. Not being mechanically inclined I had no reason to dispute it. We were able to get a friend to help tow it back down to Phx a few days later because I was not able to pay the $450 the shop wanted to tow it back down. After getting it back to the valley I took it to a shop for a diagnostic to find out how bad it really was. They checked for codes and could not find any related to the transmission. They did a flush and fill on the transmission and it runs better that it did before the trip and I have been driving it all around town since without any problems. So I see one of two scenarios that went on in that shop: 1 - The mechanics at this shop are total morons and don't know a transmission from a tree stump. 2 - They probably didn't even look at the car. They just saw a stranded motorist with a vehicle that had a lot of miles on it that was at their mercy. So they decided to go for the big ticket item instead of trying something less expensive that could have saved our vacation but they wouldn't have made as much money. Now I understand that a new transmission would have fixed any problems, heck a new car would have solved a lot more. What really ticks me off is that that they didn't even try or offer to attempt a flush & fill. Maybe it would have worked, maybe it wouldn't have, but at least try. I guess greed trumped mountain town hospitality. DO NOT USE THIS SHOP!!!! DO NOT USE THIS SHOP!!!! DO NOT USE THIS SHOP!!!! I hope this helps some other family from ruining their vacation. I had a pretty great experience here actually! The guys who worked here were nothing but helpful when a discontinued trailing arm broke on my Ford Escort. Even though they (and every shop in the surrounding area) couldn't find the part for sale, these guys created one and welded it onto my car. My girlfriend and I drove all the way home from Flagstaff to Michigan with no problems, so I'm very grateful they were progressive, helpful, and cheap. Exemplary service! Our Jeep broke down at Grand Canyon South Rim and these guys saved our vacation. Dealership was back-logged over a week. Was towed here by Route 66 Towing, a AAA contractor when I broke down 80 miles away the night before. I was happy with Randy at Route 66 as well as the fact that he towed me to this shop who used my parts the next morning (I was able to get them at O'Reily's who was open before Nationwide was) and they had me rolling within an hour. Since I do most of my own repair, the fact that they used my new parts, got on the job right away, and had me rolling when I needed to be meant alot to me. My wife and her friend were taking a trip to Taos, NM. On their way they experienced some care trouble about 30 miles out of Flagstaff. After waiting for AAA for 3.5 hours, on the fwy in well over 100 degree heat, they were finally towed into Flagstaff. After some time at the repair station they ended up staying at a nearby Hotel overnight and allowed to repair station to look at it first thing in the morning. That morning the repair station diagnosed the issue and told the wifey it was a transmission and it would cost $4650. The phone call I got was tearful at best, she was balling actually! I asked her to calm down and let me search for a transmission shop nearby. That is when I found Nationwide Transmission, i called and spoke to Dale who offered to send his tow truck driver over to her and bring the car over to his shop to diagnose. (SIDEBAR: Tow truck driver has no room in the cab for 2 frantic woman so he has them sit in the car while he loads them on the flatbed and drives then to Nationwide. Kinda scary but they thought it was fun.) After looking over the van Dale comes back with an estimate of $4995 except his was two decimal places to the left!!! Unbelievable service - we broke down on our cross country trip at the Grand Canyon, then got towed to Nationwide Transmission in Flagstaff. We arrived shortly before closing and explained to Adam that we needed to get back on the road as soon as possible. He shuffled things around, found our parts, and got us back on the road the next morning by 10:30am. We couldn't have hoped for a better outcome after our car broke down. Nationwide Transmission Flagstaff AZ These guys are really sleazy... DO NOT trust them! My daughter broke down outside of Flagstaff with an older pickup and had the misfortune to be towed to this shop. She'd been having trouble with the fuse that runs the electronics blowing and when she talked to the shop she TOLD them that this particular fuse was prone to blowing and they should look at it. They didn't appear to be listening to her and did NOT note it in the record. They examined the car and pronounced the ECU as dead and quoted her $1300 to replace it. I got involved, and while I was skeptical that it really was the ECU, I'm 2500 miles away and other than asking a few questions of them I can't really DO a proper diagnosis. I found an ECU that I could have shipped to them overnight for about $300 from a parts store that that has an outlet about 2 blocks away, and then called and asked WHY they were charging $1300 for this repair. His answer was "We always quote the price for the part from the dealer, but of course we'll shop around and get the lowest cost part. THIS I BELIEVE.... but I also believe that they will charge the customer the higher of the 2 prices and pocket the difference. I had the ECU sent to them and they installed it then called me to claim that the truck ran for about 2 minutes before quitting again, so CLEARLY something is taking out the ECU.... BULL(waste substance).... At this point they admitted they couldn't fix it and advised that we should remove it from the premises. I readily agreed. I called around to several shops, finally getting a reference for Sean at TIC. After talking to Sean, I had the truck towed to his shop where he quickly determined that the fuse that my daughter pointed out WAS indeed blown, as well as a fusible link, and the cause of this was a chafed spot on the harness. Sean repaired the damage, replaced the fuse and the fuseable link and the truck runs as good as new. Now back to Nationwide..... they completely ignored the advice my daughter gave them which was actually the clue they needed to fix the truck. They mis-diagnosed the ECU problem, missing the fact that it had NO POWER on the B+ line! When they put the new ECU in, I'm certain that the truck did NOT run for 2 minutes... in my experience no vehicle will run for even two SECONDS without POWER TO THE ECU! They HAD to make this up to explain WHY they made me spend $300 for an ECU that wasn't needed. Not only are these guys incompetent to fix a simple electrical problem in a 21 year old vehicle, they lie to cover their incompetence. They also are guilty of not listening to what my daughter (who knows a little about cars) told them.... they clearly didn't even LOOK at the fuse! In their defense, in the end even though they wasted $300 of my money, they charged exactly what their troubleshooting was worth... NOTHING read more

Sleezy and dishonest. I was passing through Flagstaff when my upper radiator hose burst on my car. It was Sunday, so not many choices. I had the misfortune of being towed to their shop. They charged me $40 for a "diagnostic fee" that anyone could see if you opened the hood. I pointed where the problem was so there was no diagnosis requied. Just one of many fees. The hose cost me $300 in parts and labor but when your stuck, you get jacked. At least I can get the word out to the locals. read more
