Unfortunately I had the worst customer service experience of my life here yesterday. As a brief…read morebackground, I've been wearing glasses for 27 years. My parents both wear glasses and we had previously been going to the optometrists and retail LensCrafters in MacArthur Center once a year every year for as long as I can remember and always have had a great experience. That store has now relocated and the closest to me is Lynnhaven Mall. I had previously walked into the retail side and a lovely woman named AJ helped me adjust my glasses that my toddler broke until I could replace them. I was looking forward to coming back to her to help me pick a style after my exam. I scheduled my appointment yesterday morning for that afternoon at 4pm. I arranged for my husband to get out of work early and watch our son to accommodate this appointment. I showed up at 3:55pm. At the front desk were 2 women one 20s/30s and one was older. The younger one greeted me and then proceeded to say and I quote "...yeahhhh we didn't have a phone number on file for you and your email didn't work so your appointment was canceled." The form did not require me to input a phone number or insurance. It even said on the confirmation email (of which I received THREE confirmations to the same email that "didn't work" for them) that I could fill out forms and provide insurance in person at the time of my appointment. They continued to tell me they could reschedule me for another day. I'm a very patient and understanding person, I don't enjoy confrontation. There was no apology for wasting my time. No effort to accommodate me. The lady beside her was her supervisor as I learned when asking to speak to someone else. She also met me with attitude, rolling her eyes and refusing to look at me, typing on her computer while I was desperately trying to seek resolution. Unprofessional, disrespectful and just downright rude. I wasn't yelling or cursing I was just upset at the situation and honestly, even a simple apology for the mistake would have gone so far. But not once did they even say sorry, in fact, blamed me saying I must've spelled my email wrong or there was a problem on my end. I received various spam emails and work emails to my same email after booking. Aside from this, I don't even understand why the appointment had to be canceled. I could've provided this info on the spot. My appointment was confirmed as BOOKED multiple times via email. I suggested perhaps there was an issue with their email host. Again met with blank stares. Disappointed is an understatement. Neither one of those women should be in a customer facing position. I'm disheartened to take my business elsewhere for my eye exams however AJ and the other gentleman working the retail side are absolute customer service rockstars and tried to help me afterwards.

It's pretty easy to see the place as you come out of the store or from the parking garage. There is an independent eye doctor next door, but I already had my prescription for this year. My visit here was on October 30, 2023. The business was nice and bright when I came in. You can tell it was well maintained. You can see all the different kinds of frames available along the walls. When I came in, I was greeted by Amy, who I found out afterwards that she is the general manager for this location. I wanted to look around a bit to see what type of frame may work for me. After looking around for a little bit, I wasn't sure what type of frame I wanted to go with. Amy took the time to show me different frames, and she found one that I liked. After that, it was getting the process started to complete the purchase. It's a great way to use FSA funds too. The overall process was pretty straightforward and quick. She also checked to see if they had the lenses available there on site. In the end, they did have them available, and about an hour later, I got a text message that the glasses were available. I came back in later that afternoon to pick them up. Everything worked out and all was good. Overall, this was a very good experience for my first time getting glasses at a LensCrafters. The staff are friendly and willing to help too. Whether you have vision insurance or not, this is definitely a place to look into for getting glasses. There are so many different frames you can choose from. This place is definitely worth checking out.

Since this is located at the mall, parking can be hit or miss depending on when you come here. It wasn't too bad on my visits here. My visits were on May 27, 2025 (to look for glasses and such) and June 5, 2025 (to pick up glasses). I had never been to a Visionworks until this first visit as my prior coverage was through EyeMed, so they were not in network. Now I am on a VSP plan, so they are on that plan. I had looked around at several places at reviews and such to make a decision of where I would go, and this is where it led me. When I came in on the first visit, it wasn't busy, though I came in at a time when kids are still in school and such. I was immediately greeted by Iris and went over to table with her. The first part was going through the prescription and what was covered under my VSP plan. She also told me that there was an offer for 50% off a second pair of glasses after using insurance benefits. After that was completed, she gave me time to look at frames for my new glasses. There were so many options to choose from. I did find some good ones that were not too much more in cost than what was covered under the VSP plan. After that, she reminded me about 50% off a second pair, so I looked for prescription sunglasses too. I found some really good ones too, and they still work great today. After getting everything ordered, she said it could take up to two weeks for them to come in, though it would end up coming in sooner. For both pairs of glasses, my total cost was less than $500. A little over a week later, I got a notification that both pairs of glasses were ready for pickup. I came in on June 5, 2025, to try the glasses on, make sure they were right, and ultimately bring them with me. Iris was here on this day too, so I was able to work with her again for this last step in the process. She made the process smooth and easy. She also adjusted them to make sure they fit properly. They also have a 100- day guarantee, so if you don't like the glasses for some reason, you can come in and replace them with another one in that timeframe. Overall, this was one of the best experiences I have had at any place I have gone to for glasses. Iris was great to work with through the entire process. She was very transparent throughout and no stone was left unturned. The selection of frames for both the glasses and sunglasses was abundant. If you are looking for a place to get glasses, and Visionworks is in network for your vision benefits, this place is definitely worth going to.

Great experience - from inquiring about my insurance coverage, to making my appointment over the phone, to my eye exam today, trying on my new pair of contacts, ordering them, and even choosing and getting fitted for new glasses. They accept a lot of insurances, just ask! There are always specials going on, and they change so I recommend you ask. In November, I had my annual eye exam at a doctor's office (not here). After looking at different…read moreplaces, I ended up getting my first set of glasses here. It's that darn astigmatism that made me get glasses. I was not in a rush to get them same day, so that was no issue for me. I wanted to get them done before the benefits reset at the beginning of the year. On the first visit, I was just looking for glasses at that time. When they tried to access my benefits, it was still locked at that time, but that happens. Even with that, they did attempt to sell me glasses that same day without using the vision benefits. That wasn't going to happen. After a few days and a call to the insurer, everything got cleared up. Once that was all cleared up, I came back into the place to look at glasses again and finalize what I was looking for. The place was a but busier this evening. Gloria was the one that worked with me on getting everything set up. The only thing that made it last longer than usual was that she was the only one there and the phone kept ringing almost one after the other. Once everything was set up, she said that it would be about two weeks before they would be ready due to the year-end rush (as many were trying to use their benefits before they reset in January). Fast forward a few weeks later. I got a call just under the two week period that my glasses were ready. Later that afternoon, I headed over to get the glasses. Once I put the glasses on and was fitted, I was able to see a lot differently than I was without the glasses. It's amazing what you can see when you get to 20/10 vision. I had some questions about some of the total amounts in the end, since it seemed like something was off. They indicated that one of the additional options wasn't factored in when I got the explanation of benefits back from the insurance provider, even though every charge amount was listed on that statement. To this point, I'm still not sure if I was really overcharged or not. Overall, this is a good place to find glasses. There isn't anything that would cause me to place a rating higher than the three rating given. You'll want to go somewhere else if you're in a rush to get new or replacement glasses.

UPDATED AT THE END The issues with JC Penney Optical at…read moreLynnhaven Mall amount to more than simple dissatisfaction. The place, and Chad, the optician there (I don't know his full name unfortunately) are dangerous. I am not exaggerating. My daughter has strabismus and astigmatism, so it's important that her prescriptions are executed correctly, especially as fas as measuring the center of the lens and the positioning in the frame. We always watch out for that and have never - for 10+ years - had a problem. Somehow, Chad managed to do the measurements so grossly wrong, that my daughter's eyes would not allign properly, the lens pulling them inward, towards her nose. Her vision was blurry and she got headaches. If you understand strabismus, that can absolutely destroy her vision and cause long-term problems with her treatment. To be sure we know exactly what's happening, we went back to my daughter's ophthalmologist, to get her lenses checked. It took them less than a minute to see how awfully they were put together; center off by almost an inch! With that information, and the correct measurements marked on the glasses, we went back to JC Penney Optical at Lynnhaven Mall, honestly hoping someone else rather than Chad would be there. No such luck. While he agreed to redo the glasses free of charge (as per JC Penney policy which we had established by calling their customer service line earlier) he tried to argue that it was our doctor who was wrong! At this point, we were trying to be patient and polite, hoping that despite everything, we'd get the glasses properly redone. Too optimistic, as it turns out. After about a ten day wait, we received the redone glasses. They were not blurry and didn't cause headaches and eye misalignment, so we thought everything was OK. I noticed they seemed a little crooked, but that happens sometimes, so I asked my daughter to keep an eye and adjust as needed. A couple of weeks in, they looked completely off on one side, so I took her to a different optician near home to adjust the frame, which is usually an easy fix when done by a professional. Well, maybe so, if you don't have an all-fitted frame! The moment the optician heated up the frame to do the adjustment, one of the lenses popped out of the frame! She said that she'd never seen anything like this - the lens on the crooked side was larger than the frame - by 3 millimeters! It was pushed forcefully into the frame, being too big to fit otherwise, thus twisting it. That's why it was sitting unevenly on my kid's face - the lenses were different sizes and wrong for the frame. So, now we are going to call JC Penney Optical customer service again and try to handle things from there. I'll update this review with the results, but in the meantime I go back to my initial point - that place, and their optician, are dangerous for your eyes. They will cause you weeks of unresolved issues and back and forth, and ultimately you'll still have to find someone else to correct everything. Especially if it's childrens' glasses you need - please go somewhere else. UPDATE: We contacted customer service and they were wonderful - quickly organized a refund for the broken glasses and approached the issue with care and understanding.
