Overall, I would recommend this establishment if you just need a place to stay for a night. I will attach some photos from the room. I will have to say that in the 57 years of my life, I have never been to Blanding Utah. We found this establishment while traveling the lonely 191 in pitch dark. Someone on the booking site where we booked the reservation, stated it wasn't much to look at, but it exceeded their expectations. We are currently in the room and still formulating our opinion. I will say this, though there is no closet, there are four hangers to hang clothing on from a metal bar protruding from the wall. Also, there is no safe in the room. I am hoping this is because this area is so safe, that one is not needed. When we pulled into the parking lot, there were absolutely no cars to be seen in the parking lot. There is a row of motel rooms and then behind those are a set of first and second story hotel rooms. When I went in to register, I asked the clerk if we were the only patrons at the hotel this evening, and he responded "unfortunately yes". Being the only guest at this motel, I would think he would have put us upfront so that others who drove by would see people staying at the motel. However, he told me he had put us on the backside of the hotel near the pool. It's 39° out when we arrived, and I can assure you I will not be using the pool. The interior of the room has definitely been remodeled with faux wood flooring. The sink is located outside of the restroom. Though the restroom is large and modern. the showerhead was difficult to adjust as it is on a metal bar, which you can slide the showerhead up and down. Also, the water spout for the shower is loose. I will say the water pressure is extremely good. One thing I have never seen in my life in a motel room, and I have stayed in a lot of hotels, is there is an electrical panel in the room. It's not locked, and the only latch is spring loaded. For the price we paid, I guess we can put up with some things. The bed does seem pretty comfortable, though I will have to update this review after I have slept in it for a night. Also, breakfast, which is included, is from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM.

A lot of artifacts, antiques, and reproductions adorn the place giving it a country comfy feel. The king bed room was very large. The mattress and pillows were premium quality, as advertised, giving a great night sleep. Not many windows in the place but it is restored mill so don't expect views or a lot of light. It was quiet - no outside noise or noise from other guests. Self check-in was easy with parking right out front. Clean, comfortable rooms and public areas. The breakfast food was average, nothing special, but better than a typical "hotel free breakfast". The breakfast room was well decorated but needed some music. It was a little uneasy with the guests not talking to each other in a very quiet space and the host/server/cook not interacting with guests beyond serving. Overall, it was a good stay and I would DEFINITELY return if in the southeastern Utah area again. MUCH better than a motel. Better than staying in crowded Moab. I ate dinner at their restaurant, The Granary, and liked it. I posted a separate review for that.

Check-in was a ghost town--no one around, had to hunt down someone who looked annoyed we existed. Room felt like a dusty antique store explosion: creaky floors that groaned like they were dying every time you moved, poor lighting so dim you could barely see your own feet, and lightbulbs that were straight-up burned out. Bed was okay if you like lumpy mattresses from the 1800s, but the pillows were flat as pancakes and smelled faintly of old attic. Breakfast? More like a sad self-serve disaster. Tables were dirty, no utensils half the time, trash overflowing, and the "continental" spread was basically stale muffins, watery coffee that tasted like regret, and some sad fruit that had seen better days. No host interaction, no warm vibes--just grab-and-go neglect. The whole place had this weird abandoned energy. No real hospitality, plumbing sounded like a freight train every time someone flushed, and the "quaint" antiques just made everything feel grimy and neglected. Paid way too much for a night of discomfort and disappointment. Zero charm, zero comfort, zero reason to ever come back. It just sucked. Hard. Avoid unless you enjoy paying for regret. 0/10, would rather sleep in the car.

What we didn't realize was that coming to Monticello, there was also a nearby fire! I had called the day before and was assured we'd be pretty safe here. We drove here and was shocked to see the huge smoke cloud from the fire! We took our chances and stayed the night. The office is open during limited hours. We arrived in time to be checked in by a person. Our paperwork was ready and waiting for us. However, in the morning, the office was closed when we were leaving. There's a box with a slot to turn in your keys, so we did that. This is a little motel with rooms looking like they would have back in the 50's-60's era. I enjoyed seeing the vintage features like the real room keys, Frigidaire Refrigerator and corded desk phone with a dial (even though you push the buttons). Even the facial tissue box was covered with a decorative old T.V. set. Something they had here that is not so common at hotels anymore is the Gideon Bible. The room comes with a window A/C unit and a space heater. Our room was #121, a Deluxe King. I booked it through Expedia.com. The room rate was $81.00 plus tax. Pretty fair price! This place was stocked with all the common necessities. We had a coffee maker in the room, but didn't use it. We should have, though! I appreciated the little nook with the desk. Outside the rooms are benches. Also there are parking spaces in front of the rooms. We were able to park right in front of our door. That was very convenient! We had a nice quiet night's rest. Woke up in the morning and checked on the smoke from the fire. It had shifted away from Monticello, so that was a welcome sight to see!

The service was amazing throughout with every member of the team being helpful, providing recommendations and going above and beyond. The communal area is also very well done with seating perfect for sunsets with a cocktail or nice bottle of wine, and some very delicious food. The dipping pools, firepits are also a very nice touch. The food throughout was amazing, breakfast lunch and dinner as well as some smore's! The test we had was overall a very good size with a comfy bed, fireplace and full bathroom. The only issue was that our tent was a little older, or at least the canvas was and it seemed to trap cold air in. The first night was a bit tough to sleep through but the second night we were able to get the fireplace going to keep heat throughout the tent. All in all, I would recommend anyone try it at least once, PLUS dog friendly!!

The showers didn't have hot water and there is no full divider for the tent bathrooms. Ulum advertises as a wellness retreat, but the only complimentary wellness offerings are three small pools and occasional yoga classes. During our stay, the pools and common areas were overrun with screaming children, which made them far from relaxing. I would advise Ulum Moab to either lean into being family friendly and offer more child friendly activities, a kids menu, and add a larger pool or lean into wellness and pose age limits on child guests and add a sauna and steam room. If no changes are made, this resort is simply not worth the price.

What a cool place!…read more I arrived Sunday afternoon May 5th at 3 Step Hideaway just south of La Sal Utah. The owners Scott and Julie are great hosts, the food was simply amazing with huge portions and the accommodations were more than i expected from a remote, secluded, off the grid, solar powered retreat. I tent camped 4 days and loved each day there. They offer TeePee's, Cabins and even a large Family Cabin. They have a full bathhouse, hot showers and a wood fired hot tub! The folks there are very friendly and give you your space. They offer helpful tips if you'd like to tour the area while you are there. Let me just say, that if you are ever even remotely near that area, you owe it to yourself to stop in and meet/see 3 Step Hideaway!! There is a lot to do if you're interested, or simply relax and do very little if you'd rather. Literally hundreds of miles of trails available to motorcycle ride for every level of experience. Incredible scenery to photograph, roads that wind and snake around if you like to burn corners too! Moab is just 45 miles or so north of them, and unlike Moab 3-Step runs an average of 15 degrees cooler each day so it makes for a great summer retreat location. Scott told me they typically only have 1 day during the summer that makes it to 100f there at 3-Step. I made a day trip over to Ouray Co and visited O'Brien's for a homemade ruben sandwich that was incredible. I continued down the 550-Million Dollar Highway to Durango, then on to the Four Corners Monument which is on the Navajo Reservation and from there back up to 3-Step! What a great ride. I also rode to see some of the surrounding sights. I tried to stay out of Moab as it is always crazy busy and super expensive!! I enjoyed my time there and am already making plans to return with family members for another vacation. Scott and Julie are fantastic folks,m they have a wonderful place there and are very helpful. They even have a full service motorcycle shop! :{)
