After years of going to the same hairdresser for my haircuts & color, I decided I wanted a change and try out someone new. I did my research on Yelp and this establishment caught my attention mainly because of their 5 star rating and reviews. I decided to make an appointment one evening and was told Kim will be my hair stylist. I haven't had a haircut in about a year and the color on my hair was fading out, so yes my hair looked hideous. Kim was very personable, accommodating and such a sweetie! I showed her a picture of the color/highlights I wanted my hair to look and she worked her magic for the next few hours. After waiting about 2+ hours, I was anxious to see how the color turned out. The color slowly appeared while she was blowdrying my hair and I was surprised the color matched perfectly to the picture I showed her! Getting my hair cut and colored by my cosmetologist, Veronic Burke. Shes really talented and I recommend her to anyone who loves to be adventurous. I do my best creative thinking in the summer and thus I get more creative with my hair. With Veronica's touch we added more golden brown highlights with a nice blend of mahogany to light golden brown and even a splash or two of bright fuchsia/ raspberry chunky pieces. I love it! I remember coming across Kim's Instagram page quite some time ago and thinking how beautiful her work was. I finally made the appointment, a really easy peasy process through text, and found myself back on her Instagram researching what I wanted done. I decided on a textured bob with an ashy brown balayage. A short consultation with Kimthy was all she needed to start working her magic! She was very personable and the way she handled my hair, you can tell she's been doing it for a long time. 3 hours later, I had a head full of voluminous, healthy looking and curled hair! I definitely recommend Kimthy but don't go by my recommendation, all you have to do is look at her work! I found Kim from a friend where she worked at where i use to eat and i always complimented her on her hair cut and color, she hooked me up with Kim and when I first met Kim, she spent time with me and talking to me about my hair. I felt really comfortable with her and let her have full reign of my hair. She gave me an A line haircut and I was in love. Her color technique is out of this world. I seriously think she is the very best in color. I have gotten so many compliments on her cuts and colors. When you sit in that chair and she works her magic hands on your hair, you will walk out feeliing beautiful! It's been close to a year since I've gotten my last haircut so I decided to come back to Nathan Michaels salon. It was such a spontaneous decision because I was in the area after doing errands and I was wondering if they have any spots open for a hair trim with layers and long bangs. Hannah was at the front and greeted me right when I walked in the door. She was extremely friendly and told me that there isn't any openings for the time I walked in, but she has a spot available for me 2 hours later if I wanted to come back. Since I live in the area I figured I'll come back, mind as well right? Hannah was so sweet and was great with my hair. She communicated with me the entire way and made sure that she did not cut too much but also wanted to achieve the look that I wanted. She took her time with my hair too which I really liked. The service which consisted of a dry cut, wash, and style started around 4:20PM and I got out around 5:15PM so she really took her time and made sure I liked everything. The ONLY reason why I'm taking a star off (I wish I could just take half of a star off) is because it was uncomfortably warm/hot in the salon. Like I was dripping sweat down my back the entire time and just felt uncomfortable for that hour I was sitting. It was nothing that Hannah did wrong at all because she did a fabulous job with my hair and I would recommend to her to everyone! read more

I've gone to a few stylist in the Sacramento area but I never went back for a second appt. I had a few friends in common with Kimthy Dai on Facebook and we became friends. Kimthy listened to my request and concerns for my hair and she delivered. But NO! my hair wasn't even near the look.. my hair turned out to be an ugly orange ... she also said it would be $150 but in the end she charged me over $200... she's also raising her price an extra $5 after August 1... she also pulls ur hair very hard!! I was browsing for a hair salon near me and I came across Nathan Michaels who had a 5 star rating. They also happened to have a groupon deal at the moment for half off haircuts, which was perfect. I haven't had a regular hairdresser in quite a few years. Do due some health reasons, I had my head shaved back in 2010 for surgery and I rocked the short hair pixie cut for over a year and had to keep short. Well, I finally grew out my hair and the old stylist I had was no longer working at the previous salon I used. So it was time for a change! I had a hair trim probably about a year ago at the Ulta Salon and had the mistake of getting bangs. I had wanted long side sweeping bangs that framed my face. Well that didn't happen and I ended up with bangs that were shorter than I wanted and had to pin them back while they grew out. Not to mention she double booked me and was going back and forth from cutting my hair and coloring another client's! So I was a bit nervous of getting my hair cut again, but my hair dresser Brooke was quite nice. I addressed my issues and how I wanted my hair trimmed but wanted to keep the length if possible and adding a few layers in the back to add some texture and volume. And she did just that! It's not often that I go in for a trim and actually come out with my hair still. I don't know if it's just my luck or what. But when I get trims, they usually cut a few more inches that I want them to. But after it was all said and done, my hair felt wonderful and looked amazing. I definitely will be coming back in the next few months for another trim. Even without a groupon! LOL. Everyone who knows me, knows I love a good bargain. The reason why I'm deducting one star is because there were some issues with booking my appointment. I originally called and asked for their next available appointment and got booked for 11am the next day. Well, I get a call back a few hours later and was asked if they could push up my appointment to 12pm instead. Which was fine. But the day of my appointment, I get another call at 11am asking if I can bump up my appointment again to 12:45pm. So I get there and they still weren't ready for me. I waited maybe an additional 15-20 minutes from my appointment. But if it weren't for all the rescheduling, I would have given 5 stars. read more

I was super lucky to have found such an amazing hair stylist at Nathan Michael's Salon. I was having a super stressful day at work and decided I needed a change! So I did what any girl does, I decided to get a haircut and an ombré. When things suck you change your hair right?!? I made my appointment for after work and was excited to see that the salon stayed open until 7, unlike the other ones that closed early at 5. That was the first brownie point! When I got there I was greeted by a friendly face, and we got started right away on my haircut. Hannah did an amazing job on my hair. I really appreciated that she listened to what I wanted and did just that, unlike other hairstylists that seem to take liberties with your hair thinking they know what will look best even though it's not what you wanted at all! Hannah did a great job on evening out my layers and getting my hair to lay just right. I went back on Saturday to get my balyage ombré done. Again, Hannah was super sweet and listened to what I wanted and did just that! I love the way my ombré turned out and I had a great experience with the salon I found by chance on yelp! I lucked out finding Hannah and the salon. I've gotten compliments on my hair ever since and have been referring people to the salon. I will be making an appointment this month to bring my mom and aunt in to get their hair dyed and cut. They loved my hair so much they wanted to go too! read more

I've been getting my haircut at Nathan Michaels Salon for a long time now. The salon moved to a new location. This new location is quietly located in Elk Grove. It's not easy to spot at first but I do enjoy the simple, modern feel to this new salon. I did miss the old location of this hair salon. It was at a more convenient location. However, I'm glad this salon relocated into a more spacious location. Personally, as a guy, it's a little more traveling to do for a haircut. But I couldn't leave my hair stylist, Kristina. I've been getting my haircuts from her for a very long time now. Let me tell you how fond I am to find a hair stylist who can cut my hair. It's not easy for any stylist to cut my oddly shape head, where there's a few bumps and lumps, making it difficult to cut my hair evenly. She is very good is doing color as well. I enjoy her friendly personality and great hair tips. I recommended my girlfriend to get her haircut from Kristina as well and my girlfriend absolutely LOVE getting her hair done by Kristina now. If I could give them 10 stars I would. There are several salons in the area that I've tried over the years but none compare to this one . I've had the pleasure of getting my hair, both cut and colored by Deborah & Mike at Nathan Michaels Salon (on separate occasions). They work to accommodate your schedule; which I can totally appreciate as a working mother. It's an awesome space, conveniently located in Old Elk Grove where you are not fighting with traffic or for a parking space. Trusting someone with your hair can be very difficult BUT not here. Both Deborah and Mike have years of experience and training. I can sit in the chair and say "do what you think will look nice "and I'm not nervous about the end results. They do what's best for the client and her/his hair. I appreciate someone who can walk me through a process and educate me on what I'm asking for. I assure you that you will love this place. It seems like immediately after leaving the salon, I'm already getting raves about my new do . Of course that makes me feel great. Just like many of the other Yelpers that have written reviews for Nathan Michael's, I discovered this place because of Groupon and I'm so glad I've found it. My sister and I have been growing our hair out for awhile and decided it was time to take the plunge and hack it off because we were sick of it. We both have really thick hair and combined with the length, it was starting to get really heavy. We had appointments with Evonne this morning and she did an amazing job! She was really easy to work with, fun to talk to, and actually took her time to give us the haircuts we wanted. I'm totally obsessed with my hair right now. I keep swishing it around because I haven't had my hair this short since college. My sister wasn't sure of what she wanted so Evonne gave her suggestions and in the end my sister really likes her haircut too. So for the last year or 2, I'd drive to Stockton or wait to go to Southern California where an old friend who used to cut my hair had moved to just to get my hair cut. I have been going to Mike for my haircuts and style for about 15 years. They were originally located in the Pocket Area and then moved to Old Elk Grove. I have followed them because they (Deborah and Mike) operate a professional and friendly environment and plus do a terrific job with my hair. Another reason I continue to go back, Mike never fails to cut and style my hair so I look presentable. He really is the best, especially when it comes to working with a Latino's hair type (at least most of us). If you know about our type of hair, it is thick and when it grows out, it becomes unmanageable. What I say about my hair when it is out of control, "your hair is up before you wake up". This review is only about Kimthy. She is rude AF. She didn't do what I asked her to and then charges me for something I didn't ask for or agree on. When I told her how I felt, she told me to go somewhere else to get what I want because how she charges is probably out of my budget. All I asked was for some highlights/babylights... it's the same color as my faded out box color after she was done. She wanted me to wait until it fades to get what I want. She is fluent in English and modern but with an ugly attitude just like previous salons I've gone to. I should of went back to a previous hairdresser even though she moved to North highlands. I went to Deborah the owner to have my very long hair highlighted and trimmed. She finished in an hour and a half and I was amazed how fast she got everything done. It usually takes about 3 hours for just my highlights. She styled my hair before I left and I was happy with the result. Unfortunately once I washed my hair I noticed that about 60% of my roots/grow out were not highlighted. So when I wear my hair the way I style it, it looks like I haven't touched up my roots at all. I am now going to have to make an appointment somewhere else and pay again to have it done properly. I wish I could contest the $130 I paid and get my money back. A few weeks ago I tried a different stylist, Kimthi, based on recommendation from other Yelpers and her Facebook page. I had the most uncomfortable salon experience ever. Kim must have been in a foul mood or she just didn't want to converse with me. She cut my hair in an awkward silence. She was rather rough when she wanted me to tilt my head a certain why. I had previous grown out dark artificial hair color and as a hair stylist myself, I knew it wasn't going to come out in just one session. During my appointment with Evonne, she was super friendly and clearly explained every step to me. So much of the old color was removed and I know in my next session, it's going to be just where I want it! Her balayage application was flawless and super blended. I saw a woman who had a very stylish haircut on the school campus where I worked and walked up and asked her where she had her hair done. She told me Deborah at Nathan Michaels was her stylist. Deborah does an amazing job styling and coloring my hair. I consider her to be a master colorist in all aspects - coloring, color correction, highlights, and low lights. She offers great suggestions regarding possible haircuts and style changes. I have visited a few other salons over the last 20 years. Even though I live in Sacramento and the salon is now in Elk Grove, I will continue to go to Nathan Michaels as I feel no other stylist can compare with Deborah. This review is for Evonne. I came in for a natural balayage, but came home and saw that it wasn't as brown or toned down as much as I wanted it to be. I have Asian hair so bleach comes out brassy. I texted Evonne and she said that I could come in and get it toned down at no cost to me. When I came in today, she was so careful and attentive to make sure that my hair was the color I wanted it to be. And now it's perfect! Evonne is a really sweet person and a talented colorist.
