They have a bunch of toppings like caramelized onions, raw onions, jalapeños, fried onions, pickled onions, chili, relish, all sorts of stuff basically. I got my first dog with homemade mustard, ketchup, caramelized onions, and crispy fried onions. IT WAS SOOO GOOD the crispy onions with the caramelized onions. Then I came back a couple days later and the guy remembered me. I asked for a double dog (bc I thought it was two dogs in one bun) but they gave me two separate dogs so I got one with mashed potatoes and pickled onions and my same order from the other day. My og order was better but the taters were good, coulda used some extra pickled onions. I also got these ones with the potato wrap bc I felt like I had to try it. Definitely not needed with the bun but they were good.

They could speak both English and Norwegian which is helpful because there wasn't an English menu that we could see unfortunately. I recommend the spicy hotdog, and then the sour! All were good though, sat at the little chairs around the stand to eat. 3 hotdogs for ~18usd.

4 Gringos is a revolución! Not only is it the first taco truck, it also serves enlightened tacos…read more This is no TacoBell-style fredagstaco with old ground beef, grated Norvegia and hard Eldorado shells. At 4 Gringos they are serious about their quality proteins: marinated beef, pulled pork, chicken, or refrito beans, and dress each one with its own character. The combination is explosive - each juicy bite is extremely flavorful, and anyone used to classic "Nor-Mex" would be dizzied by the spectra of taste of these badass tacos. The usual run of info: you can order big snack 2 soft-shell tacos for 70 noks (hipster), up to large meal 4 for 130 noks (fiesta) with a choice of beef/pork/chicken/beans, served out with a set of three/four toppings of their design. The beef is probably the best, the pulled pork second. They also have toasted quesadillas and mixed burritos. You eat outdoors without a table: while sitting around Youngstorget's fountain is nice in the summer, it can be less pleasant in cold winters. It's not perfect: the luscious toppings can be a little too messy for a one-handed taco dining, and make the taco shells too soggy to hold it together. Many trucks in USA serve up double tortillas for this exact problem, and they could have done that here. Also, I do think they are victims of their own creativity and being overly complex. Each taco had 5-6 flavors going on, and I prefer 4-5 for cleaner palate. Or, you should not order a fiesta of all 4 flavors, like I did! :) The food is competitive with some of the best sit-down tacos around. Taco Republica may have better-made cochinita pibil but they cost a fortune, whereas 4 Gringos is affordable and unique in giving what we the people need more of - a pioneering no-frills, damn good food truck.

Two tacos cost NOK 70. You can choose from chicken, beef and vegetarian (some kind of beans) at the moment, and pork is to be added to the menu shortly. They can also make it as a quesadillas. Additionally they offered chicken chili soup for NOK 60. When I ordered two tacos I got a little taster of the soup to warm myself on. A welcoming treat in the cold. They are open every Saturday now, but told me they plan to expand to Thursdays and Fridays as well, and in the long term they hope to stay open 7 days a week - all year.

Jamie W. and I finally arrived in Oslo at close to 10PM after a six-hour train ride from deep in…read morethe fjord country. After we checked into our hotel, we went on the hunt for a late dinner. However, we had no luck finding a suitable restaurant still serving food after 10PM. I refused to patronize a McDonald's not because I'm a food snob but... OK, maybe I am a snob, but when we accidentally came upon this Middle Eastern kebab grill, we were game. We were also desperate at this point in the evening. There was a long horizontal picture menu, so we just ordered off of it at the counter. When they were ready to make our orders, one of the staff motioned us over and asked us which fillings and toppings we wanted. We just kept modding every time he scooped anything, which was why our meals looked rather gluttonous. I went for the 155 NOK Lamb Kebab Box which was quite a pile of grilled lamb with lettuce, cucumber slices, beets, jalapeños, yogurt sauce, and housemade pita bread (photo: https://bit.ly/3vLcrWl). Jamie ordered the 120 NOK Lamb Kebab Pita which was quite an overstuffed handful with the same ingredients as my box plus corn kernels and hummus (photo: https://bit.ly/3A2HVcZ). Even though they were messy and oversauced, the hastily assembled food certainly filled our bellies, and for Norway, they were reasonably priced. Mine was almost $16, and Jamie's pita was around $12.25. At that late hour, most of the customers were either friends of the owner or drunk Scandinavians. And there was us. FOOD - 3 stars...generous portions of grilled meat, decent tasting, pretty messy AMBIANCE - 3 stars...fast food operation in a historic brick building SERVICE - 3.5 stars...they customize the orders willingly TOTAL - 3 stars...now you know what you can eat after 10PM RELATED - Exploring Norway? I love middle eastern food, their kabobs, grilled meats, rice, spices, special sauces, etc. This place makes good food with big portions! Not only that, the main reason we came here was the early opening hours compared to the common hours in Oslo. We had a hard time looking for a place to eat in the morning before our train ride, and this place was one of the very very few choices we had. The shop just opened when we got there. The guy wasn't the friendliest but at least he gave us food that was prepared hot and fresh. The prices were affordable and it was nice to sit outside looking out onto the busy streets. Great place to eat middle eastern food!

The gate/area is more ethnic (colored people) than I other areas that I have found. This made for a great walk through as we went shopping for various items. Fountain drinks are PEPSI products. They are smaller cups...more like 10oz or less. I passed on the fries. I posted a newer picture so you guys can see the prices that are in effect now. They have increased by 10Krones. Did not try the pizza slice. Wanted to try the Indian food but it's served in a to-go tray and once I Converted it would cost me about $9 - 10USD... I decided I'll wait for the UK. I will admit...if this is the only fried chicken in town at this price point.. It makes me want to return and open a true Southern eatery with mac-n-cheese, sweet potato wedges and black eye peas and et al. All in all, if you're okay with that KFC original, sweaty soft skin type chicken then this is it. We did go back for a box to go, IN THE SAME DAY, and more colorful characters were present giving the history of the place and telling us the pizza is good. TO be honest: I just needed a fried chicken fix so now I'm back to looking for local/native Norwegian food. FYI: I think the location is SMART!

The quality of meat isn't all that great to be honest, but if you're desperate for fried chicken, then Maxin can relieve you of some of the pain. It's not even as good as KFCs, but it's so damn cheap! You can get a meal of 3 (undersized) piece of chicken for 65 kr! (including fries and drink!!) I don't know how they manage that - they must have gotten a tax exemption from the government for providing a community service to us fried chicken eaters. In summary, Max : McDonalds :: Maxin : KFC.
