Beef and spicy chicken combination.
Michael M.

Amount of food was small for the price in my opinion. But after I ordered the food came out fast. Restaurant was completely empty at 1:00pm on Tuesday.

Veggie stir-fry
Cilantro M.

I ordered the veggie stir fry, awful. It was so lacking in taste, spice, and variety. It was a hot pile of cabbage, the seasoning was soy sauce watered down with sugar water. It was benign and unappealing both to the eyes and tongue.

Gyoza

I always get gyoza from here. Literally THE best gyoza ever. They're always super fast and the food tastes amazing! AND great prices!

Tofu yakisoba with double veggies, half the noodles... I think they doubled the tofu, too.

Back to Nara, ordered Tofu yakisoba with half the noodles and twice the veggies. It took a little while longer to get than usual, I think it was the tofu that did it. When I got it back to work and unwrapped it, there was a TON of big cubes of tofu, not crispy but not totally soft, either. A small amount of noodles ( oh, weight watchers rules, you are so cruel) and a nice amount of veggies. There was not all the variety of veggies they used to have, I notice they have them in their stir fried menu items, but maybe not in yakisoba anymore? there was broccoli, celery (meh), onions, cabbage, baby corn, zucchini, and carrots. I missed the red bells. I love those. But, it had a nice flavor, and it was less than $9 with a drink, so I was satisfied. The place was full of men. I notice they give an Intel discount. The sweet girls who work there are very nice. It's clean and cute. There were also lots of little families. I notice they have a kid's meal for $3.95. Neat.

Food is good. I had the teriyaki lunch special. The restaurant itself was very clean and quiet, so if you just need a low key lunch this place would be it.

Mushroom chicken and teriyaki chicken
Araceli L.

I came here for my lunch with a co worker. She got the teriyaki chicken and I got the mushroom chicken with fried rice, it was only a dollar extra for the fried rice instead of the steamed rice , but I don't recommend it. It was far from fried rice, it was basically just the steamed rice with a little bit of knor chicken flavor added into it and frozen peas and carrots, not good. The mushroom chicken was ok, but the chicken was kinda hard and it had way to much sauce I asked for it spicy but I think they forgot because it was not spicy at all. The chicken teriyaki comes with a salad that just has regular ranch on top. They offer free green tea and we also got the fried shrimp appetizer and that I do recommend, they were delicious. The place was empty we were the only table there, but they were getting a lot of to go orders so seems to be pretty popular. The service was friendly as well

Spicy chicken!

This little gym is located right off Cornell and the other Hillsboro airport. I have been coming here with my coworkers for lunch for many years. They have good lunch specials. There is plenty of parking. There is a good selection of teriyaki stirfry dishes on the menu. The prices are reasonable and most of the items are under $10. The workers are friendly and the service is quick. I've tried most of the items on the menu and have never had anything that was bad. Overall the food is good and freshly prepared. The portions are big and dishes extra flavorful.

Hillsboro staple. Always good to have for lunch or dinner. Food is always on point, yakisoba or teriyaki w/ gyoza are my go to's.

Maru Sushi Hillsboro - Chicken bowl

Really enjoy this lovely Japanese restaurant. Its so quiet and peaceful in the evenings. The…read moreservice is excellent from the friendly greeting to the frequent check ins. The food is really good! I have twice gotten the chicken and beef combo and it is just amazing. The beef is tender and so flavorful. The chicken is cooked to perfection never dry and the sauce is delicious. I also enjoy the salad with their special dressing. Its all so good! I tried the sushi as well. Fresh and scrumptious! Highly recommended!

I have been dreading having to write this review, but feel it is my duty both as an avid fan of…read moreJapanese food and a third-generation Japanese person. If I were considering dining at Maru, this is what I would want to know. The staff here are so welcoming, they have really nice chopsticks, and the service is friendly. Beyond that, it is straight downhill. To call this a Japanese-food restaurant is not accurate. Besides the sushi, the food seems to be a mishmash of Chinese and American cuisine with Japanese names. We started out with an order of so-called chicken karaage. Imagine my shock when the server delivered a dish of deep-fried chicken strips with a bright orange sauce on top. This dish tasted exactly like Chinese sweet and sour chicken minus the sour. Instead of pieces of thigh meat, it appeared to be sliced chicken breast. This was clearly prepared by someone who has never seen or eaten chicken karaage. My husband ordered the bento box. I wanted to order one but all four options contained chicken teriyaki and shrimp tempura neither of which I wanted. Hubs went ahead and got one with an assortment of sushi. It also had salad (which was a small handful of mixed greens) Can you think of what was missing? Yeah, rice! He had to order and pay for rice as a side dish for a bento box!! WTH?? No self-respecting Japanese cook would serve a bento box without rice!! I sampled the chicken teri. Oh my god, so dry and tasteless. It also appeared to be sliced chicken breast which explained the dry texture. Hubs said the sushi was fine, fish fresh and rice tasted okay. Oh heavens, now onto my sad dish. I ordered the unagi bowl, clarifying with the server that rice was included. It wasn't visible from the menu picture. She enthusiastically confirmed it was, and that the bowl had a ginger dressing. Yum, I thought. That was the last time for the rest of the meal the word "Yum" came to mind. What was placed before me was this: A wide, shallow bowl with a small amount of rice in the bowl part. It was covered with mixed greens and spinach straight out of a package, not prepared in any way. The unagi was sliced thinly and laid on top. All over the lettuce and seeping unpleasantly throughout the rice was a creamy white dressing with no discernible flavor. Like a drab ranch. NOT the promised ginger dressing. Unfortunately for them, I avoid creamy dressings and mayonnaise. It was a nightmare on a plate. The unagi was okay but a bit chewy indicating either a poor quality or undercooking. I tried to eat the rice and salad part but the dressing just overpowered the whole dish. I left most of it after picking off the unagi. Finally, the rice was not cooked long enough or was not Japanese rice. I felt so sorry for our server. She noticed I hadn't eaten most of my dish and asked me how I like it. I just said I don't like creamy dressings and left it at that. She was so sweet but clearly knows nothing about Japanese cuisine. And her cooks know even less. If you want good Japanese food, stick with Syun Izakaya, their sister restaurant, Sawa's, or Mio Sushi. If you want to play Asian food roulette palate-wise, you might have fun here.
