We have only had great experiences with Frost's. We took our car to the dealership and were quoted…read morewell over $700 for our car to be inspected, and when we went to Frost's for a second opinion, they said there was absolutely nothing wrong with the parts the dealer was saying needed replacing. They cost a little more than some other local places, but it's worth it in peace-of-mind, great service, and the fact that they stand behind their work. My only minor complaint would be that sometimes the repairs seem to take awhile, so make sure to ask if the repair will take longer than a day.

I own a 1998 V70 Volvo wagon, and recently went into Frost's Garage to receive an inspection…read moresticker. Upon the garage inspection they informed me of a few problems resulting in inspection failure, including an exhaust manifold leak, ABS system failure, noise from my rear left tire, and a loose head light. I asked for a quote on the exhaust manifold leak, and was told "At least $700 for the part not including labor". Apparently the shop did not know I was a USCG licensed Marine Engineer. I did not have time to do the work myself, and brought the car to another mechanic. There was no exhaust leak, he fixed the head light and ABS system, and slapped on a new inspection sticker for $100. DO NOT proceed with repairs from this garage unless you have the mechanical aptitude to realize that what they are charging is or is not fair. What a scam.

    The Shop Inc

Webb's RV Center--…read more It is very disappointing having to write this review because everyone at The Shop, Inc. has been professional and responsive. Ryan, the service manager of The Shop, Inc., is fantastic. This review has to do with Frankie, the owner of The Shop, Inc.'s inability to accept that he made a mistake diagnosing a vehicle, causing further damage. We bought a 2020 Hyundai Kona at auction with known engine problems. We called The Shop, Inc. because the vehicle had a rattling noise when the motor started. When we drove the vehicle to the shop, we explicitly told Frankie to do whatever it takes to fix the vehicle. Once we brought him the vehicle, he proceeded to diagnose it, saying it needed a timing chain. It did not; it needed a motor. This is where the problem starts with Frankie. We were asked to go to The Shop, Inc. to inspect the vehicle after Frankie claimed the work was done and the bill was due. Upon inspecting the vehicle after the timing chain was installed and being charged over $3,000.00 worth of parts and labor, the vehicle was started to test the motor. Upon starting the vehicle, it was apparent the rattling noise was still occurring. To document this, a phone recording was started to record the noise of the motor. Within four seconds, the vehicle was heard misfiring and then the motor proceeded to blow altogether. When we brought our concern to Frankie, he made a comment saying, "Do you want me to work for free?", and would not budge at all on the bill. We brought him a running vehicle and he left it for us to pick up with a tow truck, along with the existing problem still at hand: the vehicle needs a new motor. It is very disappointing that after sending him other jobs and referring multiple people each week to his shop from our dealership, this is how we are treated. More than likely, Frankie will respond back to this review, and he will say his scan tool had code # P0017. He will say the timing chain was loose and even go as far to say that his work didn't cause the motor to blow. What he will not do is admit that he was explicitly told to put a motor in the vehicle if it needed one. We wasted more than just $3,000.00 in parts and labor; we wasted our time in putting trust in Frankie and The Shop, Inc. by bringing him the vehicle in the first place. Ultimately, Frankie should have dug deeper into the vehicle, more than just reading off his scan tool. Webb's RV Center would have paid a steep diagnostic fee if that's what it would have taken to figure out what was truly wrong with the vehicle, like I told him preemptively. So no, Frankie I do not want you to work for free, as you asked me before. I want you to understand that we put trust in you and your team to fix a vehicle. When the work you completed did not fix the vehicle, and in fact made it 10x worse, you REFUSED to do anything. We paid the bill, and we were respectful to you during all of this. You will never hear from us again and we will never send another customer to you.

I shared this story with Rent-A-Wreck corporate four days ago. They said they would reply within 24…read morehours but I have not heard back- so it's becoming a review on Yelp! Long story short: -An incredibly shoddy car that reeked of cigarettes -Indifferent service, one employee was outright drunk on the job -The owner showed up at the crack of dawn ringing our doorbell long after we returned the car because he forgot we'd returned it. We rented a car from the Hampden, Maine Rent-a-Wreck on April 12th. The person on the phone seemed to be not at all happy to speak to me but transferred me to someone who was. We got our quote and decided to go for it. When we got there one of the employees was drunk (like, hollering drunk) but the owner was quite happy to set us up with a vehicle- an older Chevy Impala. The car reeked horribly of cigarettes, the Check Engine light was on and it was complaining about not having enough air in the tires. The big problem turned up the next day, when the car started beeping at us and telling us to turn off the engine immediately because it didn't have any oil in it. For the record, there was a Prompto oil change sticker on the window saying the car should have had its oil changed 10,000 miles ago or last November, whichever came first. Wow. We brought it back to Rent-A-Wreck and were told by a VERY unfriendly young guy to ignore the beeping, so we did. It continued to do this for the remainder of the time we had it- I can share photos. The car also obviously had a failing transmission. It would rev for a few seconds before kicking into gear. I rather doubt these people would have had our back if their car had left us stranded somewhere. On April 18th, we returned the car and the owner shook my hand and told me "It's a pleasure doing business". I wasn't terribly impressed by the service but felt like leaving it at that. Today, on April 29th, I was woken up at the crack of dawn before I was even out of bed by my door bell ringing. I saw a strange, brand-new Mercedes out front and then saw when the person was leaving that it was the Rent-A-Wreck owner. I checked my phone and saw a call from 'No Caller ID'- meaning that he enabled caller ID blocking when calling me. Naturally, it's really scary having someone coming and ringing your doorbell early in the morning when you aren't even dressed. I called over to Rent-A-Wreck and got through to the guy who told me that I still had his car. For the record, the guy who came to my door was the same person who I had personally handed keys to and shaken hands with. I told him that no, I didn't have his car, because I had returned it *to him*. He immediately turned around and said there must have been a mistake. -The owner didn't check their records to see if anyone else had the car? -The owner didn't remember me returning the car to him personally? -The owner didn't ask anyone else in the shop if they had rented it out? -The owner didn't do any of these things before showing up at my door like he's in the Mafia? When someone does something like that I'm expecting them to be armed. We were so scared we were shaking. Given my experience with this place I can't ever imagine doing business with Rent-A-Wreck again. I'd hitch-hike or walk first.

I rented a car from this company for a week's stay in Maine a couple of weeks ago. I knew nothing…read moreabout the company, but I was hoping for a great deal. Not only did I receive an incredible deal, financially, but the owners were so incredibly easy to deal with. They were thoughtful and kind and extremely helpful in all aspects of the business transaction. The car was not really a wreck, although it was older and not exactly a show model. But it got me from point a to point B, and I was picked up at the airport when I arrived in Bangor, and dropped off on the day that I had to catch my flight home. This is a great company and when I return to Bangor next year, I will be calling them to rent another wreck! Thanks, guys!
