Amalia vino and something special the chef made for me

First time in Santiago and this meal was superb. My server, Carolina was increíble and so attentive and had the chef create some amazing pieces of sushi for me. Everything was delicious, ambiance was fun and I felt so taken care of. Highly recommend!! Muchísimas gracias, Carolina and team!

A fun, delicious, trendy joint in a great (safe) neighborhood of Santiago! I was looking for a nice place to have a solo dinner while vacationing in Santiago and figured omakase was a solid bet since I could just sit at the bar. I also wanted a nice dinner where I could wear sneakers / a casual outfit (I'd been mostly trekking in Patagonia while in Chile and hadn't packed any formal outfits). The food was on point and the meal came to about $75, with wine and dessert (tiramisu, very skippable). Some very cool ingredients, including the best bite of vegetarian sushi I've ever had (pic below!). The waitstaff was really nice and patient with my rusty high school / college Spanish.

My wife and i's favorite meal in our time in Santiago. I read about this spot in a list of places to eat in Santiago and to be honest, we were both a little skeptical of sushi in Latin America. I know there was a large Japanese population in South America and that Chile was a seafood destination so we figured we try it especially after reading reviews. Service is top notch, fish is fresh, flavors magnificent and the textures were so great between a little crunch, and the rice and the fish. Our waiter recommended two great rolls since my Spanish is limited. We went with the omakase and Japón rolls. Exceptional. Worth a try if you're in Santiago and want a Chilean Japanese fusion.

Deserves 5stars all around, may be take half a star for the noise, but to me it's part of the ambiance. The staff is super knowledgeable and eager to explain the amazing sushi coming your way. For start we had the Oysters and Uni shot OMG how delicious was that, so fresh, so piquant, so smooth, and so oh so good. Each and every roll was such perfection, it was mind blowing. We had a Tako Roll, a Fujisawa roll, Gyutataki, and last but not least Agregado pobre nigiri, new dish not on the menu. We ate it so fast that I forget to take a picture. No need of Soy sauce, actually they discouraged it. I don't think I will be able to eat " sushi" ever again in the small " Sushi" restaurants around small town America. Not overly expensive.

Amazing Japanese restaurant!! The service excellent, the wine we had was perfect. The flavour of each piece of sushi was unbelievable, so different and perfectly well combined. Variety of seafood too!

Best sushi anywhere - not just in Chile. But it comes at a price. Ambiance: Dimly lit, somber & upscale dining. A good place for a date as it's quiet and not suited for large groups. Large sushi bar with plenty of chefs. Service: Terrific. A lot of attention to your needs and where you are in your meal. You get an amouse-bouche when you sit down and a warm towlet to clean up with. I sat at the bar an ordered omakase and found the chefs good to chat with. Food: Nothing like any other sushi place in Santiago. Very different taste to the rice (more neutral) and an absolutely amazing flavor complexity to their nigiris. My omakase started with a "small sashimi". Nothing amazingly special here, but very fresh. I may skip it next time but it was a good palate cleanser. Next came 8 single-portion nigiris, made one after the other: 1. Roe 2. Salmon-quail egg-ponzu 3. Tuna-uni-ikura(?) 4. Uni-foie gras 5. Seared salmon-wasabi roe 6. Wagyu beef-uni 7. Seared fish-oyster sauce 8. Eel-foie gras-eel sauce I've included some photos as I may have gotten some of the fishes incorrect (my Spanish ain't so good, and Chilean is worse). All the flavors were simply amazing - I simply cannot find the right superlatives. I've eaten at Morrimoto's in NY and Philly and this place was their equal. Price: Okay, so definitely not cheap. The above meal (no drinks!) ran CHP$42,000~US$70). But for a perfect sushi experience once in a while it's definitely worth it. I've included photos of 3 of the 4 menu pages. If you're in Santiago and you want a bucket-list restaurant, this is it.

This is not remotely a traditional sushi place, it's dark, trendy and noisy. I also didn't see any Asian staff if you actually care about that. The menu seems mostly fusion. Nevertheless, food were well thought out and meticulously prepared. The rice they used seems very well made, as in the case with their other ingredients. I was genuinely surprise. English friendly

Salad with locos and salmon - really great

Superior sushi in Vitacura. I had a wonderful lunch here and would return. The salad had fresh micro greens that I have not seen before in Santiago and the sashimi was fresh and of the highest grade. Service was excellent even though the restaurant was busy.

More like 3.5 Stars, but not 4-Stars…read more Being a native Japanese, I've tried several Japanese restaurants and local sushi places in Santiago. And ShooGun is probably the most authentic Japanese food you can find in Chile besides Kintaro near Centro. Unlike the new joints in more contemporary mood, such as Temple Lounge (@ Intercontinental) or Osaka (@ W Hotel), atmosphere is pretty straight forward, old-school Japanese sushi bar or Izakaya. So this place is more suitable for more corporate/business dinner. *Not recommended for those looking for a romantic dinner. Food quality is good. Santiago has a decent seafood, and this place does serve good sashimis. As for drinks, they have pretty limited selection of Japanese beer/sake. You can still enjoy the domestic brands of beers/wines. Price setting is quite high probably due to its location, target, and hard-to-get ingredients. Because of the high price, the restaurant is usually not too busy. Most likely no need to make reservation.

This is one of those things.. Yes - it's probably the best Japanese food you'll find in Santiago…read more Is it good Japanese food? The fact that they restrict themselves to mainstream and locally available fish selection is probably a plus, since the fish is fresh and tasty, and the presentation is legitimate and tasteful - actual sushi, rather than the "Papa John's Sushi Dippin' Strips" obscenity that is most local sushi, so unreserved kudos for that most fundamental metric. Still, the menu is flat and touristy. I would put it on a par with what you would expect to find on the catwalks at Japantown in San Francisco - geared towards the ignorant and wide-eyed tourist. The place is dirty, with visible accumulations of grime in the screen-doors. There's lots of waiting, mistakes, contrition, explanations in place of decent service. We had to wait over 10m between the natto and the unagi that we ordered simultaneously to end our meal "because they got other customers"? Seriously? Ankimo, and even ahi are un-heard of. The food was not bad, the fish reasonably fresh, and as with the rest of Chile's Japanese offerings, asking for Nigori Sake just breaks the program - the concept of unfiltered sake is just sooo incomprehensible. For the stupidly high prices, it's a bit of an insult.

We had so many dishes including the arroz de mariscos, their version of paella, katsusando with wagyu steak and caramelized onions, pulpo, tori karage ( fried chicken), dumplings and camaron al pil pil. Everything was delicious and beautifully served. The server was really very helpful in our choices and they cleaned the table and changed the plates and silverware between each dish. The wine bottle ( Don Melchior) was one of the best in Chili and worth it. The only little annoyance was the loud music which did not fit this upscale restaurant . Maybe they pushed the trendiness factor a little too much. Otherwise, great restaurant.

It's located in the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Santiago and features indoor as well as outdoor dining options. We chose to dine outside and take in the ambiance of the beautiful poolside views. Let me just say- this meal was stellar in every way possible. The waitstaff were very friendly and attentive. Everything on the menu sounded so good, so we asked for suggestions to help us narrow down what to order. Ultimately, they steered us in the right direction. Everything we ate was magnificent. I started my meal with a mocktail. This was the BEST mocktail I've ever had in my life. It was called "Corinthians" and consisted of Greek yogurt, Elderflower reduction, vanilla syrup and fresh lemon juice and zest. WOW! This was such a satisfying drink. The smooth creaminess was the perfect complement to the seafood dishes to come, and I still have yet to try another mocktail that even comes close to rivaling it. For an appetizer, we had the Sake Tartar. This dish was out of this world delicious and creatively combines two of my favorite foods- raw salmon and passion fruit. The dish consisted of a finely chopped salmon tartar with a really vibrant, creamy sauce with some zing or as they call it "leche de tigre", ikura, passion fruit gel and vegetable chips. I am in love with this dish and would rank it as one of the top 3 best things I've ever eaten. It was just so good! We were also served a complementary Amuse Bouche that was a Peruvian Vegetable and meat hor d'ouvere that was so delicious- It was earthy and the textures were delightful. It was like a miniature work of art that bursted with unique flavors. For an entree, I decided to try this fish burger which was a an in house made minced fish and ginger patty served on a brioche bun with all the fixings. It too, was incredibly delicious. Overall, I cannot say enough good things about Matsuri. Everything was perfect and I would come back in a heartbeat. The food, service and atmosphere were top notch. A MUST when visiting Santiago.

The food has gotten A LOT worse over the past two years, prices have gone way up, and the service has declined. The ramen is probably the worst I've tasted. I've eaten ramen all over Japan, USA, Canada, Europe, Brasil, Peru, and this is by far the worst I have tried. I've tried their miso, shoyu, tantanmen, and the WORST was their tonkotsu. I tried two bites when they came out with their new ramen menu, the broth was flavorless, the pork chashu was tough over cooked and inedible, and I tried two bites and sent it back. The worst part is the server and kitchen said that this is how it was supposed to be and wouldn't let me return it for anything else. And they still charged me for it after sending it back to the kitchen and not eating it!! I told them that it was terrible service and they said that if I didn't like the service I shouldn't come back (NEVER WILL). Their sushi sucks, rolls meh, the sashimi came out half frozen with frost cristals when you bit into it, it's like they just don't care!
