Let me tell you, I just ordered the chicken tenders, and they are the reason why I am writing this review. Best chicken tenders I've had probably ever!!!! It's hard to find REAL chicken tenders, these have so much flavor, and cooked to perfection. The online description is true, this chowder stacks up against anything offered by the best seafood restaurants and clam shacks in New England. It is packed with clams and is not over thick like too many "tourist" chowder offerings. One thing it has that too many chowders lack these days is a strong bacon flavor. My fiancé and I moved to Stow about a month ago and Nan's has become our number one spot for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We go to Nan's weekly and sometimes more than once a week... it's that good! I am no expert but Nan's fried chicken is some of the best I've ever had. The meat is juicy and flavorful, the portions are generous, the crust, OMG, the crust. It's amazing. We tried all three kinds. Our favorite is the Nashville. I've had Nashville hot chicken (in Nashville) and this is not hot compared to that but it's got a nice kick to it. Their original fried chicken is also amazing, but I could do without the touch of sweetness. And don't let the "kid friendly" one scare you away. It's still perfect, classic, flavorful fried chicken. Just without the extra kick. This chicken has turned my family into animals. We are not usually "bone-in" people, but we were tearing this chicken apart with our bare hands and sucking meat off the bones. I can't believe there is fried chicken this good in Stow, MA. It's bringing a tear to my eye. Besides chicken, we also got biscuits, potato salad, and the cabbage and kohlrabi slaw. The slaw was a refreshing accompaniment to the chicken. The potato salad was solid, but I won't say it knocked my socks off. The biscuits were a bit disappointing. They were big, but they were very heavy and dried out. We'll skip them next time. Highly recommend the delicious and filling "grain bowls" for lunch/dinner: protein main (chicken, salmon, or falafel) + 1 grain/green base + 2 side veggies, and any number of sauces you like. Very reasonable price for the quantity and quality of ingredients. Big shout out to the chefs for their expertly cooked veggies - perfectly roasted/grilled (love that char) and flavors maxed out with seasoning and spices. Brussels sprouts and carrots been my favorites, but everything sampled has been good. Streamlined online ordering system (with informative description and pictures of each menu item), and all of my orders have been ready on-time for the scheduled pick-up. Store contains a curated selection of what appear to be mostly locally-produced market goods; under more normal circumstances I'd browse more carefully and a leisurely pace. Their kid friendly chicken literally says no spices on the menu. I can't have garlic or onions and specified that when I ordered 2 hours ahead of time. This place has interesting food, and it is good; however, for some reason, they wait 30 minutes to make even a cup of coffee if you order online. It seems like a flaw that the Toast software can't more reasonably estimate The time it takes to make something. Not on sourdough today but has been for weeks and is what is advertised online. I called and they said I was wrong and it is always on marble rye. This regular knows better. I eat a lot of fried chicken. Like, a LOT. It's kinda hard to screw up fried chicken and most places do a passable job with it. However, I find it very hard to go back to any of those places after trying Nan's. Easily the best chicken sandwich I've ever had. a generous, juicy, flavorful piece of brined and marinated chicken breast with a thick and crunchy breading that holds up to the smoky mayo and shaved slaw, or the chili oil and and pickles if you get the nashville style sandwich, and it's all possibly the most perfectly toasted brioche roll I've ever had. so far the only thing I've tried besides the sandwiches are the hush puppies which were quite delicious, though a little larger than I was expecting. Maybe it's just because I'm a yankee, but I think they would benefit quite a bit from the gravy they serve which is probably how must people around here order them. I'm sure theres a few savages adding ketchup but that's off topic. I'm really looking forward to getting a bucket of chicken and try more of their sides as well as breakfast and some of their beverages. The bad: Takeout only and no indoor seating. Plenty of gorgeous outdoor seating, but some days like today it's just too damn hot and muggy to be outside. Plenty of my favorite restaurants are essentially takeout only, but sometimes I really just want to sit and enjoy my food in a temperature controlled environment. With such a beautiful and large space it's a shame to not offer at least a bar or a couple small tables inside. I know dining space is a hot button issue because of the pandemic but I can see this place booming as a gathering spot like rapscallion in acton, especially in the next few months as the weather gets a little more hospitable with a few spots inside and maybe some waitstaff for drinks given their extensive beer and wine selection. Very disappointed. I wanted fried chicken breast without the bread. With a side of 2 salads. They didn't know how to do that. So after waiting approximately 35 minutes with a client, having to go inside several times to see if it was ready. We finally got the order and my entrée, if you could call it that was partially cooked chicken mixed in with vinegar salads. Needless to say I didn't enjoy it. I was disappointed as I specifically stated that I wanted the fried chicken I came for. They need to get their act together. I recently submitted an online order for Nan's in Stow. It wasn't quite ready when I got there. I waited in the retail section looking at books. Other customers were there waiting for their orders. It was almost closing time. When I still hadn't gotten my order and they were about to close, I went over to the counter and asked about the order. Three staffers huddled and spoke among themselves in almost a whisper. They looked at their computer screen. But they wouldn't tell me what was going on. When I finally asked them what was happening, they said my order had been picked up by someone else. While I was waiting in the retail area, my order was quietly put on the counter. One of the other people identified themself as me, and walked out with my order. I was only a few feet away when it happened. They were closing in two minutes. There was no way they could remake the order. The staffers continued to huddle and avoided eye contact or explanation. There was no apology. When I said that I was surprised this had happened, one staffer turned to me and said: "It...happens...all...the...time". No mention of them sensing the urgency of the problem or looking for ways to solve it. Just a soft virtual shoulder shrug. Some people may be taking advantage of how Nan's operates and are walking out with free food on a regular basis. They refunded my online payment and gave me a couple of cookies as a consolation prize. They do a great job with the food. Perhaps they can become competent and professional in other areas. If their motto is going to be "Let them eat cookies", they should probably change their name to Marie Nantoinette's. read more
