3.5 stars. I'll be honest and say the staff was very helpful even though our Portuguese was non-existent, the gelato was overall good, solid flavors including a few interesting ones like port wine and tiramisu. I ended up going with the basil, hazelnut, pistachio and port wine in a sundae. If you choose the large size you can have only 3 flavors and it didn't come in a cup, and being the greedy gelato glutton that I am, plus not wanting to drip melting gelato all over myself, I went with the larger sundae. The crunchy hazelnut topping was delicious. This, along with the port wine and basil flavors really stood out to me and were the highlights of this experience. The basil tasted refreshing and green, great palate cleanser between bites of the other flavors.
If I hadn't already had gelato at a couple other places in Lisbon on this trip I may have given this spot a 4, but it lost a star for a few of reasons. 1) the sizes weren't very convenient or straightforward--as mentioned above, the largest non-sundae size didn't come in a cup, it was cone-only. Not sure if it was bc they ran out? the €7 sundae was 3 scoops but you couldn't choose the flavors, so it kinda forced me to choose the €8 one. 2) not sure if it was bc it was in a gourmet food hall but the prices were slight higher than your average stand-alone gelato spot. 3) maybe bc this particular spot (though to be fair they showcased the original location, not this one inside a mall), was hyped up by a couple of foodie shows stateside, but my expectations fell a little flat. Aside from the port wine, I felt like the pistachio and hazelnut had a bit more punch and creaminess at other places I tried. If I had a chance I'd give the original location a shot but I wouldn't go out of my way to try this location in lieu of other gelaterias. read more
