The store is still as perfect as I remember. The cutest, most unique selection (that you really can't find anywhere else) that is the best quality. Knowing that I will soon be having children of my own, this will be the only place I will buy their clothes from because I know they will last! Not to mention they will look SO adorable. In the meantime, I am excited for this to be my go-to children's store for gifts. Whether it be clothes, jewelry, toys, blankets, shoes, or games (to name only a few things) they have it. The complimentary gift wrapping in the iconic yellow bumble bee paper is one of a kind and makes the experience so special too. The store and the people that work there are truly amazing, extremely helpful and friendly. Customer service at its best, something that is truly hard to find nowadays and something the Internet definitely can't offer! The items are boutique prizes, so you won't find baby clothes at Carter's prices. However, the clothing is unique. I loved the two Spanish branded items I purchased. I also saw the brand Mayoral. I like that the staff has always allowed me to browse without being pushy. I like that they always have a variety of products, and I like how they have items for babies and big kids. Sonoma is a staple in our little family, and now Half-Pint will be a staple, too!

I say this because, as soon as I walked in the door, it was like the way department stores used to be. McCaulou's reminds me a lot of Mervyn's. Oh how I miss that store! Well, actually I should say how much I miss what retail used to be like. Even though McCaulou's is much smaller and very local compared with what Mervyn's was, it's good to have the opportunity to shop in person at a retail department store. For a small store McCaulou's has a pretty good selection. It's mostly casual and leisure attire. Yet for summertime, the store carries brands like Champion, Columbia, Still Water and Tommy Bahama. To me most of the styles are plain, yet one can do lots of mix and match for an outfit. Perhaps, because my thoughts lately have been wandering off and imagining what it would be like to vacation at an exciting getaway place like the French Rivera, I looked for a complete matching outfit. And I found one by Salty Crew. Cool, a bit contemporary but classy. I was thinking...Something to wear not only poolside but also befitting at a nice hotel's lounge and cocktail bar. Will I be able to get away to Europe this year and bask in the sun at St. Tropez? Probably not! But it's nice to be able to dress like I'm ready to go there. There's been no basic appreciation, no thanks, and no sense that donations are welcome. Instead, the only responses I've gotten from staff have been things like "don't walk into the donation area," "what are you donating," or "we don't take that" -- even when the item is clearly listed as accepted on their website. The overall attitude toward people trying to donate is rude and dismissive. I won't be bringing anything else here and will be finding another local charity that actually values donations and treats donors with respect.

I decided that before I purchased anything I wanted to go into a store to look around and ask questions. I called Kids N Cribs and made an appointment. I did not find this weird because other places I called around to required an appointment. Plus I knew that the time would be reserved for me and that meant I would get the chance to ask all of my questions. Upon arriving I was greeted by Antoinette. She took me to their baby gear section and began asking me questions about what I was looking for. Based on my answers she recommended a a beautiful travel system! Budget not being an issue, she could have chosen to sell me the most expensive travel system they offered but she didn't! Immediately I knew, this establishment and the owners were people I could trust! We began talking about other baby gear and furniture. She gave me her recommendations and answered all of my questions. I spent well over the amount of time that was reserved for me and I never felt pressured to wrap up or leave. I truly felt that this was beyond business for them, this was a passion of theirs! I went home with a list of products and intended on ordering them through Kids N Cribs in a few months as my due date became closer. Just out of curiosity, I searched the products on Amazon and found that I could get some of them but not all. Then it dawned on me that buying from Amazon takes a sale (or a few) away from this business that is ran by wonderful people! Plus, my intention from the beginning was to go into a store to browse and buy products! Fast forward a few months, I was hospitalized and was going to be induced. Nothing for the baby was ready! I contacted Kids N Cribs to let them know we were now in desperate need of our nursery furniture (which was just pending a pick up from us). Without hesitation, her husband scheduled a delivery to our house to get us the furniture. A few months after delivery I stopped in to say hello and ask about an accessory for my stroller. Antoinette again greeted me and went to work on answering my questions! She even adjusted my son's car seat for a better fit! I stayed a while, feeding my son in one of the gliders they have. Never felt pressure to leave! In fact, I'm sure if my son decided to nap while I was there, they'd offer me one of the cribs they have on display. Overall I have nothing bad to say about this establishment! I recommend them to everyone! The knowledge they share is unmatched and the time they spend with you is priceless! We decided to visit Kids N Cribs because we wanted to see strollers and car seats in person before making a purchase. Before going, I read the website, which clearly states that walk-ins are welcome. I also understand that if you want the full hands-on experience, you need to make an appointment and put down a deposit. That wasn't what we were looking for. We simply wanted to see the strollers and car seats in person. As soon as we walked in, a woman sitting behind a desk in the corner greeted us. I asked if walk-ins were welcome, and she said yes. I then asked where the strollers and car seats were, and she told me that we needed an appointment. I explained that the website says walk-ins are welcome and that we weren't looking for a hands-on appointment--we simply wanted to look at the products in person. Her response was, "Well, if you read that, then you saw that an appointment is required." The way this was communicated to us was incredibly rude and dismissive. At that point, rather than argue, I asked my partner to leave. As soon as I stepped outside, I burst into tears. We had driven 50 minutes specifically to see these products, only to be made to feel unwelcome and as though we were inconveniencing them by simply walking through the door. And honestly, I find the experience especially disappointing because your clientele is pregnant women and new parents. I'm a first-time mom, and I expected a little more patience, kindness, and understanding from a business that caters to people who are already navigating a huge and overwhelming purchase. If customers cannot even look at the strollers and car seats without an appointment, then the website needs to make that much clearer. Saying that walk-ins are welcome creates the impression that customers can walk in and browse. If that isn't the case, please communicate that clearly so people don't waste their time making a long drive. We ended up going to Nordstrom in Walnut Creek afterward, and the experience couldn't have been more different. We were able to see everything in person, and an associate took the time to explain the differences between the products and answer our questions. We ultimately purchased a Nuna stroller and car seat. We could have easily spent our $1,400 at Kids N Cribs and supported a small family-owned business. Unfortunately, the customer service we received made that an easy decision not to. Do yourselves a favor and head to Nordstrom instead.
