We'd ooh and ahh over clothing we'd dress our future child in. We visited in April '21 when I was eight months pregnant, and finally, today I made a purchase for my now three-month-old son. The items are boutique prizes, so you won't find baby clothes at Carter's prices. However, the clothing is unique. I loved the two Spanish branded items I purchased. I also saw the brand Mayoral. I like that the staff has always allowed me to browse without being pushy. I like that they always have a variety of products, and I like how they have items for babies and big kids. Sonoma is a staple in our little family, and now Half-Pint will be a staple, too!

I say this because, as soon as I walked in the door, it was like the way department stores used to be. McCaulou's reminds me a lot of Mervyn's. Oh how I miss that store! Well, actually I should say how much I miss what retail used to be like. Even though McCaulou's is much smaller and very local compared with what Mervyn's was, it's good to have the opportunity to shop in person at a retail department store. For a small store McCaulou's has a pretty good selection. It's mostly casual and leisure attire. Yet for summertime, the store carries brands like Champion, Columbia, Still Water and Tommy Bahama. To me most of the styles are plain, yet one can do lots of mix and match for an outfit. Perhaps, because my thoughts lately have been wandering off and imagining what it would be like to vacation at an exciting getaway place like the French Rivera, I looked for a complete matching outfit. And I found one by Salty Crew. Cool, a bit contemporary but classy. I was thinking...Something to wear not only poolside but also befitting at a nice hotel's lounge and cocktail bar. Will I be able to get away to Europe this year and bask in the sun at St. Tropez? Probably not! But it's nice to be able to dress like I'm ready to go there. The overall attitude toward people trying to donate is rude and dismissive. We simply wanted to see the strollers and car seats in person. As soon as we walked in, a woman sitting behind a desk in the corner greeted us. I asked if walk-ins were welcome, and she said yes. I then asked where the strollers and car seats were, and she told me that we needed an appointment. I explained that the website says walk-ins are welcome and that we weren't looking for a hands-on appointment--we simply wanted to look at the products in person. Her response was, "Well, if you read that, then you saw that an appointment is required." The way this was communicated to us was incredibly rude and dismissive. At that point, rather than argue, I asked my partner to leave. As soon as I stepped outside, I burst into tears. We had driven 50 minutes specifically to see these products, only to be made to feel unwelcome and as though we were inconveniencing them by simply walking through the door. And honestly, I find the experience especially disappointing because your clientele is pregnant women and new parents. I'm a first-time mom, and I expected a little more patience, kindness, and understanding from a business that caters to people who are already navigating a huge and overwhelming purchase. If customers cannot even look at the strollers and car seats without an appointment, then the website needs to make that much clearer. Saying that walk-ins are welcome creates the impression that customers can walk in and browse. If that isn't the case, please communicate that clearly so people don't waste their time making a long drive. We ended up going to Nordstrom in Walnut Creek afterward, and the experience couldn't have been more different. We were informed minutes later by a worker there about the appointment system and that it was by appointment only unfortunately. She mentioned booking an appointment for a consultation later but that wouldn't have worked for us. I should've read the comments before making a trip there.
