We've not come to The Ashton Moss for some time, mostly as we've previously been disappointed with the service. Given that it was so long ago, and that Mrs D. was in the mood for mixed grill, we thought we'd give it another try. Unfortunately, the quality of service hasn't really changed, making what would otherwise be a reasonably good pub/grill (by chain standards) a pretty poor choice. They didn't have the mixed grill (which is fine, I accept that restaurants run out of stock) and we we're left with the menu to come up with option B. Like most people who are in the mood for a meaty treat, steak was that choice (a pretty popular choice for a grill by all accounts). As it transpired, they were also out of Rump Steak - this was given as the reason that the mixed grill was off. Again, this would have been fine, but by this point we were 2 for 2 on trying to order something they didn't have. The (more expensive) Sirloin was offered without apology, and the request to have the Sirloin with the mixed grill was rather impolitely dismissed with the explanation "it will affect the stock, we might run out", which didn't really carry a lot of weight. All of this could have been avoided by letting us know that one of their more popular items wasn't available when we were seated. The other key selling point of the the Harvester Chain is that you get unlimited salad with any main meal. I've been eating a lot of salad recently, and had some really good ones. This was OK - the basics were all present and correct, but other than that, potato and pasta salad were all the variety you will get. The bread rolls are good though! The steaks that we ordered came as requested, with them being one of the very few places who really understand what a rare steak should be. The sauces are fantastic - I'm a huge fan of Jack Daniels sauce, and there was no disappointment in this area. All in all,it's a real shame - for where it is, there is a real opportunity to set themselves apart from Nandos and Frankie and Bennies with some top quality grilling. Unfortunately, they just don't seem to get it quite right. For me, they've had their chance - and it is only this Harvester;I've been to others and had a completely different experience. In the end, that's what drives it home, and that's why they only get two stars - they're way behind the curve. read more

I have been a few times to this restaurant for birthdays or just a catchup with the girlies. And every time I have gone the service just keeps getting worse! Fair enough, it is a big place and it can get busy but that is no excuse for poor service and poor food. The staff can be rude and at one stage I waited half an hour for a drink I ordered from my table. The menu is good and presentation wise, the restaurant is inviting and clean but on a busy day I would advise you not to go in as you will be waiting half an hour for a table to be seated and have to wait again to order food or drink. Everybody about 2 years ago was raving about Nandos. I dont know why ! We where placed at our seats and then just left there. We looked at he prices and i was shocked at by how expensive it seemed to be but people rave about it so it must be good. This being our first time we waited and waited until i managed to get a waiters attention and said we were ready to order, too which he told me you order at the desk. So ok its one of them places......... I go to the desk and order. When my meal came i was again shocked at the overall presentation of the meal (i had a chicken burger). I dont know if Stevie Wonder worked at Nandos Ashton but if he did then all is forgiven and i understand. I'm no meal snob at all but if i had to pay the high prices, order the food myself i'd expect the food to : Taste nice : Look good : Be value for money Both myself and my partner only ticked one of these boxes. ( i'll let you guess which one it was.) It wasn't a very good experience and i have been told that we must have just got unlucky. I'm willing to give them another try but my partner isn't. My family love this place. Set on a multi complex of other places to eat,cinema and bowling alley. The music filtering out reminds you of a past holiday. The kids love it. Always seated straight away. Chicken excellent and plates always empty when we a re ready to leave. read more

i ordered a wrap without chilli jam and came with chilli jam. so I got a credit through deliveroo to reorder the wrap again. had to wait another hour for the order to arrive again, it arrived again with chilli jam even though i had ticked the option for no chilli jam. i think its discusting how you can make this mistake in the first place let alone the same mistake twice. the staff at nandos need retraining on english words so they understand the difference between with and without. i will be seeking compensation and a refund when i can finally get in touch with nandos as the phone number doesnt go through so i will leave alot of these reviews until somebody reaches out to offer this refund and compensation read more

The only reason this is getting one star is because I liked the Salad Bar and also because I can't give zero stars. I have eaten here twice and both times it's been a disgrace. The first time there was about 8 of us, we were there for somebody's birthday. We waited about 30 minutes before they took our order, then another 45 minutes for the starters to arrive although they completely forgot mine so I had to wait another 20 minutes for that. If you like Bruschetta, do not have it here because it isn't Bruschetta at all, it's a green pepper with some tomatoes. My boyfriend and I both had burgers and ended up leaving them because they were horrible. Nobody enjoyed the food. We complained about the service and quality of the food and they weren't interested at all. The second visit was just as bad. I don't actually know why we went back after the first time. We again waited a very long time to be served, waited a long time for very poor food (I had a lamb dinner, couldn't eat the lamb and they don't do gravy) and received terrible service from the staff. Like I said at the start, the one minor upside to this place is the salad bar, I love salad so I liked that I go and help myself to this and the breads were lovely too. If you ever watch Rogue Restaurants, you'll see that Harvesters are often featured on there. I will never go to the restaurant again and I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy. read more

I generally enjoy going to a Nando's. I've eaten in them for 15 years, from Cape Town to Cardiff and have mostly enjoyed every meal even though some restaurants might be a bit more worn than others. But this establishment was atrocious. I'm used to waiting for a table and the busy atmosphere but I cannot abide queueing to make a reservation only to be ignored for a larger party behind me. If this is how the Ashton-under-Lyne franchise is run it is about time Head Office management were made aware. Regarding this restaurant, save yourself the effort and a stack of cash by going to the Eat Inn opposite! read more

Absolute joke. Arrived and order two diet cokes, went to drinks station to find ALL drinks not working. Wetn back to table and heard another customer being advised that this would be fixed in a few minutes. Ate salad bowl, still not fixed, half way through main course , asked could I please choose another drink from the bar, stever was extremely grumpy and said he would need to speak to his manager. 15 minites later he returned and asked if I could wait. Never before have I had to eat a meal with no drink! Food was cold from getting up and down and trying to get a drink. Woul aviod this place like the plague read more

I love chicken to I love going to Nandos. I have been to loads of them all over the country but my local these days is this one and I try to go as often as I can. When old friends come to visit we always go hear, its only ten minutes in the car and really easy to get to. I have always found the service to be great and the staff really take care of you. As always the chicken is the best, I normally just get the chicken burger but it is always great, mouth watering and leaves you wanting more. Nandos can be quite expensive because you get carried away but the food is well worth it. This is not the biggest Nandos I have been to but you always get seated straight away and the drinks and brought to you in a matter of minutes, the staff always check on you throughout the meal an are really quick to cater for you read more

Well, it looks that things have changed there a lot. All three of us really enjoyed the food today and the service was excellent. They took our orders almost instantly and we then waited for the meals for less than 10 minutes. The medium rumpstake was really a medium one so there was no bleeding on a plate. Soft, juicy and with a great little bitterness of a grill. Fries were much tastier than those of a local KFC. My Sis enjoyed the salmon with piri piri ;) She loved it. We didn't have much time to look around the place but it seemed well organized and pleasant. The waitress was really friendly, helpful (it was our first time at Harvester), all smiles. She returned to us a couple of times to ask if we needed anything and if we were satisfied. And we were :) She actually earned a fair tip. I will definitely go there again. PS We were the foreigners there. For a minute we didn't experience that we were those 'not natives'. That feeling comes a lot in local inns. read more

Visited this place with my family, they served us small cold meals while we watched the staff come out with heaping plates, my husband complained. We decided to give this restaurant a second go. Saw their log book just full of complaints. To top it off saw a lady steal 4 spoons, had a piece of plastic wrap in our dip, and dried spinach on the knife. Don't even bother visiting this location. Bad name to the Nando's franchise. Put me and my husband off Nando's for good. read more

Went for breakfast. Very cold as there was no heating. Service was quite ordinary and had to constantly ask for things that were advertised as being available. Some hot food was also not up to a suitable temperature. Overall very basic food... You could do much better. read more

There should be an option to give no stars because this place doesnt deserve any. I tried this place because the Harvester in Rochdale (The Winston Churchill, Bury Road) is excellent and I expected something similar at Ashton. How wrong I was. I dont know how it gets so many people in, unless its their first time or they dont mind waiting around for ages only to be 'served' (if you can call it that) by paople with sour faces who look and act like they really dont want to be there or dont want you to be there. As for the food, I didnt feel like eating there after their bad mannered approach to customers so we left before any food arrived. read more

A terrible time there the staff were smelly and they didn't even acknowledge me that I was waiting for food and I was in disgust as I went to the counter to order they weren't using gloves to handle all the food just their hands!so that's why I'm putting a terrible review on this place! read more
