I don't think words can truly capture how much Dee has impacted my life, but I'll try my best…read more I had the privilege of working with Dee for many years, and I can honestly say she changed my life in the most wonderful ways. From the very beginning, Dee gave me the tools and guidance I needed to make significant, positive changes in my life, especially in terms of my mental health. Her approach is not only professional, but also deeply compassionate. You don't get into this kind of work unless you truly care about people, and Dee genuinely cares. Her kindness, patience, and real interest in the betterment of others are what make her so special. After I moved to Arizona, I searched for someone who could even come close to the level of support and understanding Dee provided, but unfortunately, she isn't licensed here. I would give anything to be able to work with her again. If you're lucky enough to have the opportunity to work with her, I can't recommend her enough. She is a one-of-a-kind person--truly kind, compassionate, and invested in making a real difference in people's lives. I'll forever be grateful for the time I spent with her and the lasting impact she's had on me.

She is authentically compassionate so at the end of a session, her caring attitude doesn't stop. Many therapists are compassionate; Dee has something special. There's this well-spring of joy in her; so even during your darkest times, she holds this light and that gives you hope. Best of all; she's really sharp. Dee was able to get beyond the stories I'd told myself. She picked up stuff other therapists did not. I moved away or I'd still be seeing her. She is one of a kind - the best kind.

This update is in response to Larry F's comment on May 22nd, 2024…read more I'm in shock. Six years later, this man is still pursuing this and apparently continues to be in denial about the consistent feedback received from everyone involved in this case. I have compassion for mistakes being made with particular clients and mistakes not defining the practitioner. But it's unconscionable that this practitioner has, in the years since this case, contacted members of my family and support group and threatened legal action against me for writing a Yelp review that honestly shares my experience. That is not how to heal a situation! This case worked out well *in spite of Larry*. That he's now laying claim to the outcome as some kind of proof of his work is upsetting. And that he's saying my complaint is because my family had "a miscommunication" or because I'm not reachable is disingenuous and insulting. I stand by my original review and am horrified that this whole event is being cracked open again in this way.

My experience with Larry was horrendous. We were using him for a fairly simple intervention with…read moresomeone who was actually open to the process of going into a treatment facility. As someone who is a mediator, but too close to the situation, I had hired him so that he could be a neutral third party "expert". Unfortunately, our experience was that he poorly facilitated our intervention meeting, so much so, that the person we brought in who was open to going to intervention actually shut down and wasn't interested in going after his pitch. I had to take the person out of the office to talk to them privately along with calling the facility to get my friend to agree to going while he charged the family during the time we were outside his office. He also insists on taking your credit card up front, charges for all phone calls that he initiates, and doesn't check-in about the charges. He ended up charging us over $2000 for one meeting and did not actually help all that much, in fact, he actually hindered the process. The most frustrating thing of all was when he started trying to tell me I was in a codependent relationship with my friend and her boyfriend, who I was trying support. I had been supporting this process for exactly 1 week very intensely as my friend was suicidal and acting in ways that were dangerous. It was clear that Larry's method of working in the "family system" has become the filter in which he sees the world and he can no longer just see what is true. I would never use his services again and would caution others from using him as well. I wish I had looked him up here before hiring him as every one of his Yelp reviews reveal his incompetence and tell similar stories. As an illustration of the kind of things Larry does that create drama and are highly unethical: Today, 11/7/17, he called a friend of mine who had initially contacted him for hire to ask her to talk to me about getting this Yelp review removed which is both unethical and against Yelp rules. In the psychology world, this unhealthy behavior is called "triangulation", ironically one of the very things Larry is supposed to be teaching people to end. When I explained why I wouldn't remove the review to her, he proceeded to call me directly to try to "clear up" what went wrong. That conversation didn't go well. I stand by this review and Larry's horrible choices both as a therapist and a businessman. His behavior is outrageous.

As divorced parents with two little girls, trying to find guidance through the present and future…read moreof our situations, we were looking for some one to help us navigate through the morass. We tried multiple therapists, and though adequate, they were not multi-faceted enough to understand and consider the complexities involved in a dynamic set of circumstances. We found Stefan Benton from an MFT referral and colleague of his in Mill Valley, and we are most certainly glad that we did! Serendipity happens, and it can for you as well. Stefan has a wife and young daughter of his own. Thus, being in the trenches as well, he brings a framework for viable family and interpersonal communications from his studies (and does he study!) of human nature and his own life experiences based upon real scenarios. This is not a cupcake therapist. An intellectually engaged person with real life and relevant experiences is who you want on your team. He is that person and coach. Plus he guides the conversations in a nice way, while getting to the core issues, and somehow, assuaging the fears and anxieties that can surround our inter-familial communications, opening everything up in a timely and relaxed fashion.
