When I started the quest for finding a great orthodontist for my son's needs, I took my time and…read moreshopped around, I met with multiple practices and doctors. Dr. Skanchy was the first stop on my list of possibilities and after meeting with him, as well as his amazing staff, I wasn't impressed with any other practice! The receptionists are always friendly, helpful and organized. I've dealt with the finance department a few times now. The first when we crunched the original numbers for treatment (before I committed to them). Next- when we signed the contract and agreement and paid, then once again when we had an insurance change about a year into the treatment. It has truly been a pleasure dealing with all of the amazing ladies who work for the Doctor, even the billing department! I say women simply because I've yet to see male employees around the office. The office is always super clean, has ample seating in the lobby, a beautiful aquarium, video games for the kiddos or whomever, and the usual, tv and magazines, etc. Unlike many orthodontist and even dentist offices I have seen, this one is definitely a lot more private! Usually, you will see rows and rows of chairs lined up, so all the patients are in one big room. At Dr. Skanchy's practice, they have separate and individual sections, kind of like rooms where the work is done. I always prefer this type of set up, as I feel it's more personal, less distracting and simply more professional. When we've had emergency situations come up, such as a wire coming off a bracket, etc. they're always quick to get us in, often the same day. They are pretty accommodating to schedules, my only gripe, is the doctor isn't in the office on Friday. However, you can still get some things taken care of, so it's usually not an issue. They aren't overpriced like some of the other practices I met with, yet, they offer better service. Dr. Skanchy is super friendly too, I always enjoy chatting with him, he's very thorough, as well. The office also offers a discount, 10%, if you're paying the total amount up front (cash), so you can save quite a bit of money with this option. We've been coming here for over a year and I'm still always impressed with their genuinity, friendliness, professionalism, and convenience. The receptionist and dental assistant were super nice and non awkward. The atmosphere is comfy and bright. They didn't stab my gums, which is a plus. They complimented my teeth a lot.:) Dr. Smith seemed pretty laid back, he was pretty quick, like most dentists, but you do get FREE whitening kits for life. They take impressions and you get your own trays and whitening kit. Careful, I hear it burns.

When I was younger my mom took me here to have a…read morecrown installed on my tooth that had been knocked out. the crown fell out multiple times without any extreme or strenuous activity. Every single time I went in, the dentist was more invested in flirting with his dental assistant than he was actually paying attention to my teeth and fixing it. I told my mom the first time but she didn't buy it... until the crown fell out 3 times. He fixed it for free but the final time, he just put a ton of adhesive on and called it good. Didn't color match the tooth or bother grinding it down to be flush with my actual Tooth. The result... a crown that looked 3D and was noticeably more yellow. The part that hadn't been grinded down was a magnet for gunk in my teeth to cling to and drew lots of attention for a couple years until I went to a good dentist and they fixed it for free within a few minutes during a regular checkup. He felt bad that I had even experienced such a bad dentist that he said he wouldn't charge me to fix it. My crown is now looking good but I would not recommend SMILE WIDE dental as a place to add/fix crowns. I did NOT feel comfortable 'smiling wide' for years due to the ugly crown. I was just to naive to know it was an issue and not a dental standard that couldn't be fixed. I recommend the dentist stop bantering with his interns and actually be Involved in the dental process and worry about getting into the patients world, rather than getting into his interns pants. Just my 2 cents though Edit: Hey Rodney... since I can't respond to you for some reason... guess I'll just have to edit. 1. They could tell I was anxious and gave me the gas and made sure I was numb, even renumbing me to make sure I was comfortable. They are very kind to me and my family. The office staff is very kind and welcoming. The dental hygienists are through and helpful. We have also been coming here with our children for 7 years and they have handled all of our dental needs. No cavities yet, thankfully, but he has done the extractions for our 8 year old son, helping his teeth to come in straight and uncrowded. We recommend Dr. Thornell to everyone we can.

I finally found a qualified dentist who was willing to do the extraction for a mere $40 - at The Denture Company Boise. He was very kind and very fast. Helped me on the very same day I went in. Do yourself a favor and AVOID White Pine Dental at all costs. Their X-rays and referrals cost me MORE than the other dentist who actually DOES the work. The BBB should shut White Pine down.

When I showed up to my appointment I was met by Dr. Proctor who was apparently a few years out of dental school. I had to laugh and I explained to him I asked for the seasoned dentist upfront due to my fear of all things dentistry and wished us both luck. He was AWESOME! His personality is hilarious. He would joke when I needed a joke. Made me feel comfortable from minute one. We are many appointments, fillings and crowns in and he is still my all time favorite dentist and I've had many in my nearly sixty years. When I asked their answer was that it is just routine practice, and if I go against their routine practice( not let them do what they want) I should go some place else; however, this unnecessary radiation exposure to my children and Bluffdale Dental routine practice should had been explained to us before it was done to my children and not after the fact. I also asked how often children gets panoramic x-ray the doctor said about every 5 years ( assistant said every 3 to 5 years) then I asked if they had requested dental records to see last time it was done since my children are new to them( their first visit) they said NO! this is so unacceptable! what if the other dentist got this done recently; Bluffdale dental did not care enough to know this information to protect my children against unnecessary radiation exposure which can be harmful to their health. Not a sincere apology or any effort to understand the client's point of view. I am devastated. As far as the visit went my children were very impressed with how well the staff treated them.
