Enter Custom House II. Everything in this small, hidden shop has had a previous secret life, probably in a Belvedere/Tiburon home. A cornucopia of stories hides behind each curio, each antique, each artwork, each thing you didn't know you needed. Until now. I stumbled into CHII recently and made deals on a statement necklace and a small art piece. Deals, you say? Yes, prices are marked and though this isn't Tijuana, the staff here is open to a little haggling over beautiful things and I found that charming. They made some sales, I got a nice deal, everyone was happy. If you're looking for something unique or just like looking, in general, make your way to CHII. I week later I went back because I couldn't stop thinking about it but I was sad to see the price had been raised to over $700. The owner (I'm assuming) was great and honored the original price. She said she was happy the coat was going to someone who really loved it. It had a small rip on the shoulder and she offered to mend it, but I wanted to take it on my trip to New York so I chose not to. My parents were in the home for over 60 years and there were multiple surprises; the team separated those items for my review including items that had value and significance that were stashed away. My parents were merchants and in retirement had worked for a competitor estate sale company for over a decade where my father provided me with his (fatherly) advice to choose a compant with integrity. Kevin Black and his team showed integrity. The entire process took about six weeks where Kevin provided a balance between empathy and reality on execution of a successful sale in 2026. Kevin managed my expectations and the results were in line with his predictions. Kevin outlined what the strategy would be over the four-day sale and provided updates at each step. I see the critical success factors in this experience are as follows: Knowledge: A realistic approach on how to market and liquidate a large quantity and variety of goods in 21 hours over 4 days. Team: I was present for some of the preparation time and the team was extremely hard working and collaborative with one another to assemble and collate the merchandise for a coherent presentation. I feel like the team was there to maximize the return for the client. Marketing: Kevin is a master at marketing through all channels. For the items that could be challenging for effective sale over a weekend, he offered alternative solutions that I agreed to and was pleased with the results. Presentation: The initial opening of the sale, goods were effectively displayed and highlighted. Throughout the sale, as items sold, there was an executed strategy to bring the next items to the forefront. Communication: I wanted to give Kevin the space he needed to execute without being a high maintenance client and his updates put me at ease. As far as results, the proceeds were two times what I anticipated, no complaints from the neighbors, and the house was left in the condition promised. Kevin is the ultimate estate sale ringmaster from initiation to final clean-up.

She bought it in 1967 and had it reupholstered 18 years ago with beige silk brocade with very faint pink highlights. This couch was for guests when they visited. She passed and left it for me, knowing that I would take care of it. Even though it is beautiful, it is a very light color and I am concerned about that because I am going to use it every day so I had a cover made for it. This is where Pieced on Earth, Janet and her staff come in. I chose a deep green suede material. The first time I saw just one pillow completed, I almost cried. It is absolutely beautiful. She personally designed the covered for the rest of the couch adding customized touches that made it look so close to upholstered that I just had to hug it, I feel all the love she put into it. I discussed the history and she understood my desire to honor my mother and take care of it. Her attention to detail is a testament to her craftsmanship. She wanted to make sure I am happy. And I tell you she made me so very happy. I just wanted a customized slip cover. She discussed piping details with me, that I didn't even think of and how she secured the bottom looks almost like she removed the existing fabric and covered the frame. It is beautiful. She even detailed the base at the of the back of the couch cover. The curved section was a little tricky, but she took her time and looked at it checking with me to make sure, it was to my liking, I also told her it was too low for me. Solution, she had me order some 6 "wooden legs that look simply fabulous, like they were there all along. As we discussed the cover, I got a good feeling, she understood how important this process was for me. She is so personable and talented. I trusted her with a couch that has a lot of history and she respected it, took care of it and covered it with love. She is just the best and I am so glad I met her. Thank you Janet, and for choosing such talented artisans to assist you with your work. Your work represents respect, care and a high degree integrity. I have been enjoying my couch.
