Tourists beware: this store is running a scam where they "accidentally" charge you $100 for the small souvenir animal figurines they stock up front instead of the $10 they quote. I'm guessing they are betting on tourists not noticing the difference until it's too late. This happened to me but I'm local in San Francisco and took a small day trip over to Sausalito with a friend. We browsed around and everything was cute but pricey so I settled on a cheap, or so I thought, little cat figurine to commemorate the trip. The sales guy told me it was $10 and rang me up joking that he was going to charge me $1,000 (not that funny now). Making this joke kind of created a moment where I just didn't pay attention to the receipt. When I checked my account later that day, he charged me $100. This is for a figurine that fit in the palm of my hand. I disputed the charge with my bank and after several weeks of investigating the claim, my bank sided with the merchant and now I've paid $100 for this thing. If you get lured by the figurines on the front table, make sure you pay attention when they're charging you and get a receipt to confirm. I understand small businesses are doing whatever they can to survive but this is a new low. I'm hoping this Yelp review will hold them accountable so that others don't have to deal with this.

Beautiful gallery with the most exquisite and unique collection.

We were looking for another Dino Rosin sculpture (about $15,000) to go with the one we already have. Petris has several on display. When we asked, it was made very clear that we were not welcome in this gallery, and were were told we were not allowed to look at the Dino Rosin sculptures. Later in the day, I went across the street to the other Petris gallery to speak with the owner, politely thinking that the salesperson was just having a bad day. The owner was just even more rude and arrogant, and repeated what the first salesperson said. Wow. I wonder who they *do* sell to? Others have posted similar reviews for Petris' s other gallery, "Petris Gallery." I am sorry that Petris is wasting gallery storefronts in charming Sausalito. Fortunately there are galleries in Carmel and San Francisco that sell Dino Rosin sculptures that are much more interested in my business.

I also have one called, "Chili Peppers" that I love. More importantly is how I came to own these. Shortly after I was married in late 2001 to a beautiful artist, we were in bed looking at different art magazines and I came across one with a painting by Daniel. I was enthralled. Over a few weeks my wife and I decided we would go to San Francisco and up to Portland and Seattle. I wondered what would happen if I reached out to Daniel. He responded and was more than gracious to us. When we got into SF, he invited us to his home and we were able to see large projects in the making and multiple paintings he had that were ready for sale. One was Euphoria. It had been painted years before but he believed it was harder to sell due to prurient views some had of mild nudity. What truly stood out though was Daniel as a human being. Art was truly his passion and people were his other passion. We were treated as if we were old friends. I have purchased other art from other artists, and I have commissioned art. These two will be in my heart forever. Daniel, thank you for a moment in time! It is still cherished decades later.

Usually I can cruise through galleries as it's not all my style, but even with this being one artist and style, I had to look closely at each one. We didn't walk out with any purchases as most was out of our price range, but we really enjoyed looking through - and it put the artist on my radar. I enjoyed that they had puzzles and other less expensive options as well. Highly recommend taking a look through if you're in Sausalito!

I can see why Yelp has this "store" categorized as an art gallery. It struck me as a…read morepost-retirement hobby by an owner who justified his/her antique hunting to his/her spouse by pretending it generates income. I've been in zillions of vintage shops, but I've never seen a place with more "DO NOT TOUCH! ASK AT DESK TO SEE!" signs. The shoes, dresses, china, books... Everything was off limits. I was going to make a lovely collage of these plentiful signs, but, unsurprisingly, no photos allowed. Nothing was well maintained. Apparently the store owner is him/herself afraid to touch the merchandise, because nothing had been dusted or shined in decades. I'm sure the glassware and china would have looked lovely with some proper care. To boot, the prices were outrageous. I get that it's an "antique store" and not a flea market, but please. For example, a vintage travel bar set (suitcase with spots for cups and shaker) was listed at $195! I've been looking for a set like this, so I can confidently say that's 4x the prices on Etsy (not exactly a cheap spot) and 8x flea market and vintage bazaar prices for similar sets. Bottom line: overpriced and not great merchandise. (Besides, I'd never give my business to a store that was so offended by the notion that my touch might tarnish their wares.)

The old woman with the funny colored hair and way-too early for Halloween scary makeup looked up and barely acknowledged us. She barked at a couple of tourist for touching an item and followed everyone like a dog. She was so impolite to her customers that I felt so uncomfortable. I politely inquired if she carries any vintage cat items and again without bothering to make any eye contact she yelled "NO" - even though it was evident that she has a few all over the store. Talk about rude. I don't think I have ever been insulted like that. How unfortunate. I wouldn't mind supporting local deserving business but please don't buy anything from this store. The selections are mediocre, the owner is rude and you might get sick from the filthy store air. So beware everyone. I noticed also that she was not fond of people with foreign accents when she talked down to another couple who was merely looking at some item in her glass cabinets. I felt so sorry for them. I hope their experience with this store doesn't taint our image as being Californians. We're not at all like this lady. FOREIGNERS AND TOURISTS: if you're thinking of buying souvenirs, save your money and go to another store where you can be assured that you are getting fair and reasonably priced item. This is a definite tourist trap. The store itself smell like mold growing on the wall and very much like a thrift store. I know she's passing it as antique store but beware and read the reviews first before you go in. You'll find similar items in Goodwill stores. In fact there are better items in Salvation Army and Saver's store plus you will be giving to the needy. Whereas if you purchase her "vintage" item, she will most likely run with your money to buy more tacky and scary makeup. WARNING: don't be fooled by this lady. I will be calling the city of Sausalito and notify them that this is the kind of business that's representing their beautiful city and I sure hope that she won't be in business for long. Let's not support a business that advocate for UNFAIR BUSINESS PRACTICE.

While there, we saw the ferry and said to each other, "eh, let's go take a trip to Sausalito!" We found our way to Scrimshaw Gallery, which was a short walk from the port, just off the main strip. Good looking woodworks from local artisans. Not sure why all the reviews of the grumpy dude with the mustache, but Mike was pleasant and helpful. He was quiet at first, I'm sure just exhausted from the many looky-loos filtering through the shop. Mike was more than happy to share the history of the pieces in the store. There were tons of bowls and great looking, well-made wooden boxes with handsome inlays. In particular there was a bowl, small, really nice markings and designs from the natural wood, that I was interested in. Mike explained the history of it, how it was made and how the unusual naturally burnt rim of the bowl came to be. I was sold! One big problem I had was hand carrying it home...but Mike offered to ship it...for FREE! Of course, I was weary about that because I wasn't sure if it would be intact when I received it...and I really loved this one of a kind piece. After all, it was hand turned from a local artisan who has since retired! But I trusted Mike and agreed to having it shipped (and THANKED him for doing it complimentarily!). I received it in the mail yesterday...fully bubble wrapped in a box...in PERFECT condition! Much Mahalo, Mike!
